Description

Process for the production of sulphurous acid. Since the supply of German Gravel and diaphragms are nowhere near the previous need for sulfur or sulphurous Acid and sulfuric acid, so there has been no shortage of experiments in Form of sulphates, especially of gypsum, present very significant domestic Recycle sulfur deposits.

Essentially, two groups can be distinguished in these processes 1. Indirect, which reduce the sulphates to sulphides, -the sulfur in the form of Volatilize hydrogen sulfide and then turn it into sulfur or sulphurous acid burn; 2. direct, which is directly sulphurous acid or sulfuric anhydride want to win. The latter processes seem to have essentially failed because of this to be that the decomposition temperatures in question are very high. This apparently also applies to the methods such as that in the patent specification 2o7761, expel the sulfuric anhydride through silica.

Further attempts have been made (cf. patent 232784) with sulfur to volatilize the gypsum by adding silica and pyrites at the same time, with the intention of using the arms produced during the roasting of the gravel to drive out the to use sulphurous acid from the plaster of paris. This procedure does not have to be introduced either was able to do so, because the V4 developed during the roasting process of the gravel was evidently poor in decomposition a fairly large amount of plaster of paris is not enough. It has now been found that the sulfur of the sulphates of the alkaline earths, especially of gypsum, can volatilize at a relatively low temperature if you use the anhydrous Sulphate metallic iron or other metals reducible by hydrogen or also their lower oxides and also softening substances, such as. B. dehydrated Calcium chloride, added and the mixture heated to a higher temperature.

Embodiment. Zoo parts can be made of anhydrous finely ground plaster of paris with 15o parts metallic iron in powder form in the presence of 10 to 15 percent dehydrated calcium chloride heated to 85o to 95o °. The sulfur evaporates in the form of sulphurous acid. Instead of calcium chloride, other emollients, such as chlorine magnesium, iron borate and similar substances are used. The reaction residue can be used again after reduction in hydrogen or water gas, whereby the resulting lime as required before or after, z. B. through a gluttony process, can be removed from the mass.
