Process for the production of pure zinc sulfide. For the production
of pure zinc sulphide is the removal of those usually occurring in zinc salts
Impurities necessary. The impurities mainly consist of metal compounds
the iron group, which can only be removed with advantage if the amount
the impurities is not too large. So far, cleaning has been done by treating
with oxidizing agents.
The present method is based on the finding that the sulfides
the metals of the iron group are soluble in weakly acidic solution, while the zinc sulfide
still undissolved in such quantities as to dissolve the sulphides of the iron group
remain. In order to bring about an acidic reaction, which the sulphides of the metals
dissolves the iron group, but cannot go so far that the zinc sulfide too
is dissolved, one sets according to the present process zinc chloride with sodium hydrosulfide
or other soluble hydrosulfides, their base with the anions of the zinc salt
no insoluble precipitate is around. The process taking place here corresponds
the equation Zn C12 + 2 Na H S - Zn S -E- 2 Na Cl + H, S. The evolved hydrogen sulfide
acts as an acid and prevents the metals of the iron group from being precipitated.

herzustellen, indem man Schwefelnatrium hinzugibt.
Phasen: r. Zn C1 + Na H S: - Zn S -/- Na Cl -i-- H Cl, a. H Cl + Na H S - H2 S +
Na Cl.Zn C12 + Fe Cl. + 2 Na HS - Zn S -f- Fe C12 4 2 Na Cl -I- HZ S. The zinc sulfide obtained by the present process is very lightfast. It was known to produce zinc sulfide from solutions containing zinc and iron by means of hydrogen sulfide by adding sodium sulfide. Pure zinc sulfide can then be precipitated if free acid is present, while iron also falls as soon as neutralization takes place. The technical sodium sulfide now contains basic components. The precipitation of elements of the iron group can only be avoided if the acidity is brought to the right level by the addition of new acid. The method with sodium sulfide therefore requires precise monitoring of the acidity. This difficulty is completely avoided by using sodium sulfhydrate, in that the metal salt solutions automatically adjust to the optimum acidity at which the precipitation of zinc as zinc sulfide just takes place, but other metals do not fall. The reaction takes place in two phases: r. Zn C1 + Na HS: - Zn S - / - Na Cl -i-- H Cl, a. H Cl + Na HS - H2 S + Na Cl.
In the first phase, zinc sulfide is excreted and, if so - to
a little sodium sulfhydrate is added, an acidic reaction is generated. By adding more
Amounts of sodium sulfhydrate reduce the acidity to the optimum, whereupon
then immediately again precipitation of zinc sulfide by evolved hydrogen sulfide
he follows. The implementation of the method according to the invention is very
easy,
because there is no need to monitor the degree of acidity of the solution. Also will
the permanent acidity reliably prevents the deposition of foreign metals.
Beispiel.
schwankt in ganz engen Grenzen.
erfolgt.Example. An aqueous solution containing 5 percent Zn Cl, -E- 5 percent
Fe Cl. contains, an aqueous solution of; 'Z a H S is added for as long as
until all of the zinc has precipitated. This creates a steady stream of
H, S. The precipitated zinc is white; the iron remains in solution. The acid gelialt
fluctuates within very narrow limits. At 1.5 percent H Cl there is no
Zinc precipitated more, while below this limit the precipitation of zinc again
he follows.
