Description
The invention is based on a method for white compression a video signal according to the preamble of the main claim.
Outdoor shots with the help of reportage cameras can often only be made in extreme lighting conditions. It can easily occur that parts of the picture are heavily overdriven. For Avoiding this overdrive has become a dynamic compression of the white parts of the picture proved necessary.
So far it has been common to have a constant point of use of the compresses sion in advance, regardless of whether in the following Scene with an excess level is to be expected or not. It was the input signal is only linear up to a level of approx. 80% transmitted, then up to a level of approx. 105% non-linear, d. H. level values between 80% and 100% have already been reached no longer transmitted linearly, but compressed.
To avoid this disadvantage, DE 34 46 821 A1 already known a circuit with which instead of the rigid A variable compress depending on the video signal mission is achieved. In this known circuit the peak value of the video signal measured at the output of the knee level sen and compared with a reference value. This comparison takes place in the blanking gaps, an impact on the Output peak value can only be in the next control cycle respectively. The stage therefore works slowly and is allowed for one stable operation only with little idle gain This can result in control errors.
Additional circuits with a variable starting point for white compression Regulation of the respective compression level depending on the peak value es Video signals are also known from JP 62-274874 A and JP 62-157474 A.
Furthermore, from US 4,470,067 is a circuit for automatic amplification regulation specified for the color channels of a television camera, in which means non-additive mixing and peak detection the peak of one of the Video signals selected and arranged as a control voltage in each color channel Neten control amplifier is performed. This is also a regulation of the Use of compression depending on the peak value of the input video signal possible.
The present invention is therefore based on the object Specify the procedure of the type mentioned at the beginning, which at disappearing control error guarantees a stable working method.
The method according to the invention with the characteristic features of the main claim has the advantage that during the comparison there is a closed, continuous control loop. That's why the inventive method is characterized by a stable and fast mode of operation as well as precise regulation to 100% Output peak value. When using this procedure in a color television camera is also a high channel synchronism guaranteed.
By the measures listed in the subclaims advantageous developments and improvements in the main the specified procedure possible. Furthermore, in the An advantageous circuit for performing the specified method according to the invention.
Es zeigen:Embodiments of the invention are shown in the drawing represents and explained in more detail in the following description. Show it:
Fig. 1 ein Blockschaltbild einer erfindungsgemäßen Schaltung, Fig. 1 is a block diagram of a circuit according to the invention,

In the circuit shown in FIG. 1 for white compression of the parts of a video signal which are above the standard level of approx. 100%, the video signal present at terminal 1 , generated by a video signal generator (not shown in the figure) (with amplitude values up to approx. 400%) with the help of a known, so-called. Knee limiter circuit or "knee circuit" arrangement 2 so changed that from output terminal 3 a standardized, ie reduced to about 100% video signal is removable. The knee circuit 2 is arranged in a control loop which is controlled by the output signal.
To carry out the method according to the invention, the video signal at terminal 1 (according to FIG. 2a, only 4 lines of a field are shown for the sake of simplicity) is firstly fed to the first input of an adder 4 and, on the other hand, to a sample and hold circuit 5 . This sample and hold circuit 5 is clocked with a pulse signal Φ M as shown in FIG. 2b, which is effective during the image signal duration, ie outside the blanking interval, so that a signal storage takes place during this time. The signal value held with the sample and hold circuit 5 is shown in FIG. 2a as a dashed line m. At the end of the sampling interval, the peak value û of the video signal that occurred during this time is stored. This value û is now also due to a key switch 6 , which is controlled with a pulse signal Φ E according to FIG. 2c. The switch 6 is always closed when the pulses approximately in the middle of the V blanking interval V A occur. Accordingly, the value û is keyed into the video signal located there via the second input of adder 4 during the blanking interval. This produces a video signal according to FIG. 2d, which is fed to the input of the knee circuit 2 .
To regulate the knee limitation, the output video signal is fed to the inverting input of a comparator circuit 7 , at the non-inverting input of which a voltage of source 8 representing the reference signal of 100% is present. By keying the comparator circuit by means of a pulse signal Φ A according to FIG. 2e, a control voltage generated after comparison with the reference signal can be removed only during the occurrence of these pulses within the duration of the peak value pulse n. With the help of a capacitor 9 , this control voltage is held until the next cycle. To store a new peak value derived from the next field in the sample and hold circuit 5 , the preceding value at the end of the V blanking interval is finally deleted by means of the pulse signal Φ L according to FIG. 2f.
In Fig. 2d the reference value 100% is indicated by a dotted line r. Up to this value, the video signal peaks are limited by the knee circuit 2 and the white value is correspondingly compressed in accordance with the requirement mentioned at the beginning (dashed line k in FIG. 2d).
In Fig. 3, an embodiment of the knee circuit 2 is shown with some in Fig. 1 already described - provided with the same reference characters - circuit parts. The output from the adder 4 in Fig. 1, in this case at terminal 1 'lying video signal is supplied on the one hand to the input of the knee circuit 2 and on the other hand a so-called aperture circuit 11 . The aperture circuit 11 is used to derive correction signals from fine structures and details in the video signal, for example by differentiating edge signals twice. These aperture correction signals are then fed via terminal 12 to one input of a further adder circuit 13 , at the other input of which the control signal generated by comparator circuit 7 is present. By adding aperture correction signals, it is possible to transmit the fine structures representing video signal values, which in themselves are reduced during compression, in full size even in the compressed area.
The output signal of the adder 13 is then fed to the control electrode of a transistor 14 which is between the video signal line and the negative pole of the operating voltage. With the help of the applied control voltage, the permeability of the transistor 14 is changed so that the desired white compression of video signals over 100%. The slope of the compression or knee characteristic curve can be set with the help of the two resistors 15 and 16 , the values of the resistors 15 and 16 having a ratio of 1 to 15 having proven to be favorable. The slope of the knee characteristic would thus be: S = R / (R + 15R) = 1/16. This at the connection point of the two opposites 15 and 16 present video signal is still passed through a buffer amplifier 17 and is then removable at the output terminal 3 .
In FIG. 4, a knee circuit 24 , 25 , 26 is provided for each color channel of a color television camera with the color value signals R, G, B applied to the input terminals 21 , 22 , 23 , the outputs 27 , 28 , 29 of which on the white compressed color value signals are removable. The color value signals generated, for example, by the opto-electrical converters of a color television camera and processed in a preamplifier are each fed to a first input of an adder 31 or 32 or 33 and on the other hand to an input of a non-additive mixing circuit (NAM) 34 headed. In this NAM circuit 34 , a signal is derived from the largest value occurring during a field, which is the sample and hold circuit 5 is supplied. This circuit 5 now outputs a peak value signal - as already described in connection with FIG. 1 - to a push button switch 36 or 37 or 38 , which are controlled with the pulse signals Φ ER or Φ EG or Φ EB . This peak value is then added to the respective color value signal in the adder stages 31 , 32 , 33 . The three stages thus work with the same compression characteristics for the desired channel synchronization. The further processing of the color value signals takes place as already described in connection with FIG. 1.
