Abstract
Description
The invention relates to an arrangement for guiding a Laser beam in optical structures. The beam guidance is carried out with prisms.
When realizing optical structures, the optical beam must be guided between different optical components. To achieve a small focus diameter, for example, the beam must be widened. This is done conventionally by using two lenses based on the Galilei or Kepler expansion principle. In order to be able to implement spatially compact structures, the beam is often deflected using mirrors. A cylindrical lens arrangement is usually used to adapt the beam shape to any apertures, for example to elliptical apertures of broadband Bragg cells. When the beam is expanded with two lenses with a fixed focal length, the beam passes through two boundary surfaces per lens almost vertically ( FIG. 1). If the lenses are not specially coated, 4% of the beam intensity is lost at each interface. In addition, there is a need to adjust both lenses in all three dimensions. Adjustment in the optical direction of propagation is particularly unpleasant, since on the one hand the focal points of both lenses must coincide (confocal arrangement), and on the other hand fine adjustment elements with their micrometer screws in the direction of propagation are bulky. The same disadvantages also apply to arrangements with cylindrical lenses. If the beam is to be deflected in order to achieve a compact optical structure, mirrors with further power losses are to be inserted into the structure as additional optical components, which also have to be finely adjusted.
The invention has for its object the necessary Beam guiding tasks, as beam expansion or reduction as well as the beam deflection separated in each dimension with the least adjustment effort and small optical loss of intensity to realize. This requirement is according to the invention satisfied that as beam-guiding components Prisms instead of lenses and mirrors be used.
The incoming beam consists of the two polarization components (vertical pole. E ⟂ and parallel pole. E //) and strikes the hypotenuse of a prism cut at right angles at an angle α . By refraction of the beam at the interfaces "1" and "2" of the prism, the diameter of the exit beam in the drawn plane is changed one-dimensionally and deflected by the angle ϕ to the original direction of propagation. The change in the beam diameter and the deflection angle are dependent on the angle of incidence α . In Fig. 3 are the dependencies of the deflection angle d and the change factor V of the beam diameter, which with
Als Justiermaßnahme genügt eine ebene Grundplatte und eine grobe Verdrehung des Prismas.is defined for the two cases of a right-angled prism ( α c = 5.3 °) and an equilateral prism (also 60 ° prism, α c = 28.67 °). BK-7 glass was used as the material of the prism (n = 1.51). Such prisms can be purchased for around 30 DM. Due to the size of the prism in the dimension perpendicular to the plane of the drawing ( Fig. 2), adjustment is not necessary. By simply rotating the prism, the beam expansion factor and the deflection angle can be set continuously and independently of the other dimension. As an adjustment measure, a flat base plate and a rough twisting of the prism are sufficient.
A parallel entrance beam leaves the prism again in parallel. The divergence of an entry beam is reduced. This is another advantage when using the prism in front of a laser diode. Likewise, no disturbing back reflections into the laser resonator from the prism are possible, since the entrance surface is rotated by the entrance angle α .
Such an arrangement with prisms allows a lot compact optical structures because of beam expansion only the distance within the prism (type 3 cm) is required (comparison lens expansion: distance of the two focal lengths) and by the simultaneous Deflection of the beam enables folded beam paths will.
The optical losses when passing through the prism are very low. Compared to a conventional lens arrangement, in which two interfaces per lens cause reflection losses of 4% of the optical intensity (i.e. ≈8% per lens) due to vertical incidence, when passing through a prism that takes on the task of a two-lens construction (i.e. ≈16% comparable) Losses with lenses), only up to 1% intensity loss with perpendicularly polarized incidence beam and a 60 ° prism. In FIG. 4, the transmission coefficient of the intensities for vertical and parallel polarization of the laser beam are for the two cases of the 90 ° prism (α c = 5.3 °) and the 60 ° prism (α c = 28.67 °) calculated as a function of the angle of incidence a . These excellent efficiencies can be achieved without Antire flex coating.
