Der Zylinder 2 ist auf der einen Seite - bei 4 - in ein Kurbelgehäuse 5 eingesetzt, wogegen er auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite mit dem einteiligen Zylinderkopf 3 verbunden ist. Besagter Zylinderkopf 3 ist mit einem Einlaßkanal 6 und einem Auslaßkanal 7 ausgestattet, die an einen Brennraum 8 angeschlossen sind. Der Kanal 12 erstreckt sich ringartig entlang der Längsseite und über einen Teilbereich A der Länge des Zylinders 2, der eine rechteckige Grundform aufweist (Fig. 2). Übrigens ist der Kanal 12 in etwa koaxial zur Zylinderbohrung 13 angeordnet. Außerdem ist der Kanal 12 an eine Bohrung 14 im Zylinderkopf 3 angeschlossen, die in einen ersten Längskanal 15 des besagten Zylinderkopfs mündet. Von dort aus werden - in Querrichtung B-B der Brennkraftmaschine 1 gesehen - die Ventile 9, 10 umgebende Kanäle 16, 17 und 18 mit dem Kühlmedium durchspült, das dann in einen zweiten Längskanal 19 im Zylinderkopf 3 gelangt. Der Längskanal 19 ist an einen zweiten, im Zylinder 2 vorgesehenen Kanal 20 angeschlossen, der konstruktiv dem ersten Kanal 12 im wesentlichen entspricht.
