Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a musical instrument with the individual features of the preamble of claim 1. The invention further relates to a method for Control of a musical instrument.
B. MIDI-NORM).Musical instruments are known as prior art at of which sound sources of all kinds are caused by electrical Have signals or switching states controlled which either creates simultaneously on keyboards, or reproduced by data medium, or by computer programs generated (see e.g. MIDI-NORM).
It is also important for the present invention that that with common keyboard instruments today without exception the equally tempered mood is common is. With this technique of intonation became a problem solved that comes from the knowledge of harmonic Tone ratios (Zarlino 1517-1590) resulted: Pure mood of the tones within and between the keys the keys seemed technical on keyboard instruments incompatible. With the growing importance the harmonious transition from one key to another (Modulation) the pure mood was increasing Measured sacrificed for the purpose of the modulation, by different temperatures in which so far each other excluding harmonious criteria were weighted. With the same floating temperature The breakthrough came to a keyboard game by all chains of modulation were released.
Jg., Leipzig 1890, S. 1 f.). Das nachfolgende Urteil über eine ähnliche Erfindung Tanakas charakterisiert den Stand der Entwicklung bis in die 60er Jahre:Efforts have now been made for the pure mood, which are no longer valid against the benefits of temperature were made, but were aimed at this Realize advantages even without temperature. These Attempts were initially unsuccessful because they were on an increase in the keys within an octave, their operation not only practical, but were also theoretically complicated: To determine the each piece of music had to have the right keys first be subjected to harmonious analysis. An exemplary Such an invention can be found in Shoh´ Tanaka, studies in the field of pure mood (in: Chrysander / Spitta / Adler (ed.), quarterly for musicology, 6th year, Leipzig 1890, p. 1 f.). The following judgment on a similar invention Tanakas characterizes the state of development up to the 60s:
(Oskar Walcker, 'Erinnerungen eines Orgelbauers', Kassel 1948, S. 17) , 6 "Everything was amazed at the good sound of the acoustic pure mood, which was predicted a great future. . . The hoped-for practical benefit, of course failed to materialize; this has a wider distribution Instrument not found because it ended up too would have been complicated and too expensive. . . From other inventors raised the issue of acoustic pure moods of the keyboard instruments again and again took up and became new systems for it invented. But it was a resounding success not given to anyone. The constructions were closed involved and the game without precise knowledge of the harmonic sound image too difficult. Meanwhile I still believe that acoustically pure tuned organ sounds are of rare beauty and especially about broadcasting would be suitable. " (Oskar Walcker, 'Memories of an Organ Builder', Kassel 1948, p. 17)
Furthermore, in 1968 a so-called "automatic tuning machine" became known, where the pure mood is not as Problem of playability of all keys and tonal Transitions is made, but as a requirement on the Chords, fifths and thirds in principle in the fixed Ratios 2: 3, 4: 5 and 5: 6 sound what leads to a completely incorrect musical result. The main shortcoming of such an instrument is that it is the mood of the tones regardless of changed the determination of the key played in each case or maintains. The relationships described above regardless of the context that they are in Have key (as relationship between tonic, dominant and subdominant) raised to the ideal. In addition, for the change of tone provided that at least two buttons are depressed simultaneously - this cannot be represented musically at all. The aforementioned Defects in this device have also resulted in that it was not developed further, but in It was forgotten.
For these and similar reasons, the Years of prejudice and enforced worldwide, which musically is the inevitability of temperature claimed for keyboard instruments and an increase in Keys to force the pure mood explained:
,6"Temperatur (. . .), die Regelung der für die musikalische
Praxis unvermeidlichen Abweichungen von der
akustischen Reinheit der Intervalle."

Musiklexikon, Wiesbaden/Mainz 1979, 2. Band, S. 584)

Der gleichen Quelle zufolgeAccording to the same source
"6" forces the pure mood to multiply the Pitch determination of the levels (i.e. with keyboard instruments to split the buttons) ".
So gesehenSeen this way
,6"erweist sich eine solche Stimmung als Utopie". (Honegger/Massenkeil (Hrg.), 'Das große Lexikon der Musik', Breisgau 1982, 8. Band, S. 11) , 6 "such a mood turns out to be a utopia". (Honegger / Massenkeil (ed.), 'The Great Lexicon of Music ', Breisgau 1982, 8th volume, p. 11)
Also in the past, the transition from technical justified to the theoretical prejudice. The alleged technical inevitability becomes and finality of temperature their musical Reasons for necessity and appropriateness.
The invention has for its object a musical instrument with the features of the preamble of the claim 1 in such a way that its tonal Transparency and brilliance compared to conventional devices this type is improved without losing playability is impaired in a conventional manner.
This task is characterized by the characteristics of claim 1 solved, to achieve a harmonious pure tuning of the instrument depending on the just played key provided a sensor device which is the content of the first storage device the presence of a clearly identified key by comparison with the stored clay stocks of the 24 keys analyzed. With the sound source is a retuning device connected, the presence of a clearly identifiable key can be activated and which are due to an operation of the sound input device sounding tones within the currently determined Key is harmonically pure.
Advantageous further developments of the electronic musical instrument according to the invention are claims 2-29 it can be seen that claims 30-38 relate to a method to control an electronic musical instrument in order to tune this harmoniously.
The starting point of the invention is the harmonic analysis of the piece of music played on an input device through a "tonal sensor". This also makes it possible the musical instrument according to the invention in conventional Way on a conventional keyboard in pure Playing mood. Rethinking or even relearning newly designed keyboards are not necessary. The pure mood becomes more correct when applied musically Principles always switched on fully automatically (i.e. the instrument depends on the currently active played key re-tuned) if the corresponding Key is clearly identified. It is not for this necessary to play two or more sounds (chords) to identify the key. Rather is the tonal Sensor able to play arbitrarily played tone sequences and to store and analyze scales as long as until a played key is clearly defined.
By claim 2 it is achieved that the musical instrument in atonal play or tonal indifference (a key is not clearly identifiable) not in the previous one determined pure tuned key continues what would not be musically justifiable, but rather as Sound compromise falls into the tempered mood.
Advantageous designs of the sensor circuit (in the following also called a tonal sensor) are in the claims 5 and 7 included.
Claims 4 and 6 aim to be as simple as possible trained storage with as little storage space as possible to be able to use.
Claims 8-13 ensure that the tonal Sensor key change can also be correctly recognized and in particular the premature or late occurrence of the so-called clock signal does not lead to delays played notes assigned to a wrong harmony area become and thus lead to a wrong analysis. Especially The synchronization circuit has an advantageous effect off which, when there is an output key Forwarding the clock signal to the sound collector as well its supply is delayed by approx. 0.05 s. As long as none The output key is present in the third memory, all currently played notes are recorded by the sound collector and saved and a deletion of the sound collector also prevented when the clock signal occurs.
Claim 14 offers advantages when using the instrument in the music school area.
Claims 26-29 cover the entire range of Invention clarifies that of the most modern sound samplers up to a conventional organ pipe with a electromechanical or electromagnetic slide device to change the effective pipe length can be used.
Diese zeigen:The invention is based on an embodiment in the drawing figures explained in more detail. These show:
Fig. 1 ein Blockschaltbild zur Darstellung der wesentlichen Komponenten des Erfindungsgegenstandes; Figure 1 is a block diagram showing the essential components of the subject matter of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a flow chart to explain the essential steps of the method according to the invention.
Das erfindungsgemäße Instrument kann z. B. folgendermaßen aufgebaut sein:The instrument of the invention can, for. B. as follows be constructed:
The sound input device 1 can be a conventional manual with key contacts, which are assigned as many combinations of rows and columns of a diode matrix. The downstream tone detection 3 continuously polls the key contacts one after the other and compares each key state (closed or not) with its previous state. In doing so, it assigns a key code to each key by incrementing it, which it forwards to the intonator 8 each time a key state changes and to the sound collector 5 ) each time the key starts. The intonator 8 controls a sound source 9 on this basis. The tone collector 5 uses the key code to feed a memory cell assigned to this code, it being possible for all the tones of the same name to be assigned to a single cell.
The content of the sound collector 5 is analyzed by a tonal sensor 6 in a manner described below. As a result, this forwards a recognized key or a negative tonal finding (indifferent or atonal) as a binary code to the intonator 8 , an optical display (e.g. light-emitting diodes) and to a memory 7 . The latter, however, only takes over the tonal finding in response to a clock signal which comes from a clock signal generator 2 , which can be controlled by a key actuated by the player. With the acceptance of a positive tonal finding, the memory 7 fixes the output key which, if present, can be processed by the tonal sensor 6 .
The effectiveness of an output key is also signaled to a synchronizer 4 , which controls the supply and deletion of the sound collector 5 : If there is no output key, then deletion is not permitted. Otherwise an erasure is carried out, in principle approximately 0.05 s after arrival of the clock signal supplied to the synchronizer; on the other hand, the supply of the sound collector is delayed by the same amount of time if no clock signal arrives in the meantime, or - otherwise - only after the sound collector has been deleted.
The intonator 8 controls the mood of the tones depending on the findings of the tonal sensor 6 . The mood is tempered with negative, and pure with positive tonal results. In the case of a pure tuning, the intonator 8 takes the key-type fundamental tone from the code of the ascertained key to which it harmonically aligns all tonal relationships, specifically on the basis of a table of ratio values which it finds in a memory 10 .
When changing from one key to another (modulation), the intonator 8 also controls the tuning of the fundamental tone itself, depending on the ratio of the successive fundamental tones and the corresponding ratio value, which is kept in a further memory 11 for each fundamental tone ratio. However, the ratio values of the basic tones can also be modified (tempered) by a drift control 12 , if this determines by comparison that the tuning of a tone exceeds a limit due to the continued distance from the starting mood (at the start of the game), which is set by the setting of a controller ( 13 ) is defined.
Nachstehend wird die Funktion der nunmehr vorgestellten Vorrichtung erläutert:The function of the now presented is as follows Device explains:
The logical starting point of the invention is the harmonic analysis by a tonal sensor 6 . Its function is based on a comparison of the content of the tone collector 5 with the tone stocks of the 24 keys, which can be expressed as 12-digit binary numbers analogously to the tone combination stored in the tone collector, in which each "1" represents a tone:
The clay stocks shown in Table I indicate which notes are contained in which key. Here it doesn't matter in what way these tones each be represented in the usual notation; based on exactly the 12 notes that are on one usual keyboard are playable.
It can also be seen from Table I that not all Clay stocks in the tonal sensor must be stored permanently have to. All clay stocks can be made from a major and minor tone by cyclical rotation of the corresponding Win binary number.
The content of the sound collector, in which during the course of the Accumulating the keyboard game "ones" becomes constant with compared to all stocks, until the first time one Key is recognized. This is the case if the Compatibility of the sound collector's content with exactly 23 sound holdings is excluded. The opposite is the finding a certain key excluded if compatibility either with more than one or with at all no clay stock is found. The compatibility the tones recorded with any tonal stock are defined through the equation:
Tonsammlerinhalt ⟩ Tonbestand = TonbestandTone collector content⟩ tone stock = tone stock
As soon as a (starting) key is recognized, changes How the tonal sensor works: This monitors now the sound collector content with regard to the occurrence of tones outside the tonal range of the previous determined key. When such tones appear the tonal sensor checks whether modulation is taking place. For these it applies that all components of harmony, which contains "foreign" tones with some kind of tone must be compatible. The detection of a modulation therefore presupposes that only parts of the clay collector the harmony just sounding and be found. The sound collector must therefore at There is an output key for possible modulation always deleted at the time of the harmony change and with possibly continuing over the harmony change Tones are fed again.
Normally the harmony changes at the beginning of the bar, in Exceptional case at the beginning of a higher-level part of the bar. Since the perception of the change in harmony is part of the rhythmic intuition is a key player anyway needs, the separation of the harmonies for the tonal analysis can be controlled by a tact button.
However, precautions are necessary for the clean separation of the harmonies to meet, which should prevent the tonal sensor is irritated by buttons that are relative to the cycle key (or an automatic cycle specification) "pressed too early" or released "too late". The "time" at which the change of harmony takes place and in which keys can be released and pressed namely from the standpoint of an electronic circuit be a "period".
This period is based on experimental studies to be set at approx. 0.05 s, within that such a duration musical "events" neither at Game can still be rhythmically separated in perception.
In order to prevent the tonal sensor from counting decaying tones of the beginning harmony and recurring tones of the decaying harmony, the deletion and supply of the tone collector is controlled by a synchronizer 4 , which functions as follows:
The sound collector is only deleted after approx. 0.05 s after arrival of the clock signal. In the meantime Tone buttons released, so the corresponding Tones no longer as part of the subsequent harmony in the sound collector.
The supply of the sound collector is initially delayed and in the case of one that arrives in the meantime Clock signal only after the deletion based thereon recorded in the sound collector. That way you can too Keys pressed early do not cause the ringing Tones as components of the decaying harmony to be analyzed.
1. Eine Ausgangstonart liegt vor.
2. Die erklingende Harmonie ist mit dem Tonbestand
der Ausgangstonart unvereinbar.
3. Sie ist mit dem Tonbestand mindestens einer
anderen Tonart vereinbar.
4. Unter diesen (mit der erklingenden Harmonie
vereinbaren) Tonbeständen gibt es einen, der
mehr Töne mit der Ausgangstonart gemeinsam hat
als die übrigen.
In order for the tonal sensor to recognize a modulation, ie a clear transition to another key, the following conditions must be met:
1. There is an output key.
2. The sounding harmony is incompatible with the tonality of the original key.
3. It is compatible with the tonal range of at least one other key.
4. Of these (compatible with the sounding harmony), there is one that has more tones in common with the starting key than the rest.
Each of the four conditions is only examined if the previous condition is met. The The first condition is met if the one described at the beginning Search for an initial key was successful and until the beginning of the next harmony there was no sound, which is incompatible with the recognized key. An exit key is also available with any key that is as Result of a modulation, of course, the starting point of a new modulation. The fulfillment The 2nd condition means that the output key except Force is set. Whether it's modulation where a new key is identified, only decides on the 4th condition. Latter also includes the special case that only one ton inventory is compatible with the examined harmony. For testing The 4th condition is the one with the sounding harmony agree on clay stocks in a logical AND-connection with the tonality of the starting key, the ones counted in the resulting binary numbers and the results compared.
The non-fulfillment of the 3rd condition signals atonal Relationships; is the non-fulfillment of the 4th condition synonymous with leaving the original key was without a transition to a specific other Key was carried out, that is, tonal certainty of the piece is (initially) lost. Both cases lead to the 1st condition when changing the harmony there is no need for a new output key (without deleting the audio memory).
Harmonie. Eine Modulation wird daher prinzipiell erst im
nachhinein erkannt:
modulierende Harmonie zusammenfällt, also mit
dem Anfang der aus der Ausgangstonart herausgefallenen
Harmonie;
2. nach dem Auftreten modulierender Töne, welche
die Ausgangstonart außer Kraft setzen.Insofar as the harmonic finding of the tonal sensor is based on an examination of the harmonies, it can also only take place when all components of the harmony have sounded, that is, when changing to the next harmony. A modulation is therefore only recognized in retrospect:
1. after its completion, which coincides with the entry into the modulating harmony, ie with the beginning of the harmony that has dropped out of the initial key;
2. after the appearance of modulating tones that override the output key.
A final harmonious finding with which the Output key for a possible subsequent modulation is defined, can therefore only when one fades away Harmony. When modulating tones occur however, preliminary findings can be made - subject to a possible correction. A tonal finding must be revised and replaced by a new one to be replaced if subsequent components of harmony to contradict him. This shape harmonic judgment is not only favorable for the intonation based on it, but also corresponds the harmonic impression of the listener, how easy demonstrated.
The results of the tonal sensor, of course, optically can control the intonation of sounds. As has been shown, you have to be constant reckon that at times no key can be identified is. In these cases there is no alternative to Temperature, because the pure intonation of key relationships whose constitution presupposes. So it must as unobtrusive transitions between tempered and pure mood can take place, and these run optimal in every direction when the tone the key of a key was or will be in its mood leave and become the benchmark for the alignment of the remaining tones.
The tonal relationships of a key as it results from the Ratio of tonic, dominant and subdominant, can be found in the following table (root note = 1):
When modulating, not only the internal tone ratios tuned in a key, but also that external relationships between the changing fundamental tones, to which the other tones are aligned. These Fundamental tones depend on the Sound type of the initial key for 23 possible transitions in a different key according to the principle of maximum match of the clay stocks, d. H. the the least possible change in matching tones. Only two transitions do not result in harmony clear solutions where the replacement is tempered Fundamentals appear advantageous.
Tabelle III zeigt die Verhältnisse der Grundtöne zweier unmittelbar aufeinanderfolgenden Tonarten für alle möglichen Übergänge (Ausgangstonart 1):Table III shows the ratios of the fundamental tones of two consecutive keys for all sorts Transitions (output key 1):
The appearance of tones, which is an initial key overriding leads to an analysis in which Result the new key and therefore the exact mood of these tones is detected. Because the sounds should sound when the player presses the buttons the modulating tones have a very specific pitch have before the retaliation triggered by them has taken place. If you anticipate all possible moods, that every modulating tone can have (under On the basis of Tables II and III), it shows that that only three moods are considered, whose Ratio to each other is constant:
81/80 : 1 : 2025/204881/80: 1: 2025/2048
If you now specify the middle mood, in principle the modulating tone can never continue when deviate from the height subsequently set than around the syntonic comma (81/80). For those around modulating intermediate tones result in additional tonalities on this basis the following relationships:
For a simple construction of the intonator 8 and for controlling a wide variety of sound sources, it is advantageous to express the pure mood as a corrected temperature. The temperature must be corrected in the ratio in which it deviates from the pure mood.
Since all tonal relationships are derived from the basic relationships of fifth and third, it is sufficient to grasp the detuning of these two tonal relationships due to the temperature. The following values are calculated for the fifths detuning ( q ) and the thirds detuning ( t ):
It now turns out that so that t can be replaced by the value y -7 without any significant loss of accuracy. With this, however, all key relationships can be determined by the formula express. Table IV can therefore be converted into a form in which m is shown as a function of n (for n = 0 to 11):
Entsprechend läßt sich Tabelle III umwandeln:Table III can be converted accordingly:
With the help of these tables z. B. Activate permanently stored frequencies with the values f × q m : When changing from tempered to pure tuning, the determined key (and sensibly coded in chronological order) shows the key for which tones the n values in table V show the amount 0, 1, 2, 3, etc. The corresponding m values then represent a shift in the control of the frequency tables. This process is simply reversed when the temperature changes.
1. Die auf der Ausgangstonart beruhende Verschiebung
wird rückgängig gemacht.
2. Eine entsprechende Verschiebung aufgrund der ermittelten
Tonart wird vorgenommen.
3. Das Grundtonverhältnis wird mit Hilfe der Tabelle VI
korrigiert. Der n-Wert wird vorher aus der Differenz
der Tonart-Codes erschlossen. Der entsprechende m-
Wert gibt dann die Verschiebung an, die alle Töne
gleichermaßen betriff. With modulation, the shift in relation to the frequency tables results from three (hypothetical) shifts:
1. The shift based on the original key is canceled.
2. A corresponding shift based on the determined key is carried out.
3. The fundamental ratio is corrected using Table VI. The n value is previously derived from the difference in the key codes. The corresponding m value then indicates the shift that affects all tones equally.
If the m value remains the same in the third partial shift in successive modulations, the tones drift in the corresponding direction (up or down). Since such a drift cannot be ruled out musically, it makes sense to set an arbitrary limit within which this drift should be permitted. If this limit is exceeded, the correction of the fundamental tone relationships with the aid of the third partial shift is omitted until the determined m value changes sign. To determine the desired limits, the drift control 12 is controlled by a controller 13 , which of course can also be used to prevent drifting from the outset.
If the tones are allowed a bandwidth that is greater than a semitone for the variation of their mood, the frequency tables overlap. You can then integrate them into a table for the sake of simplicity by dividing q by the value approximates the octave evenly divided into 12 × 51 steps.
For an explanation of the essential method steps of the method claims, reference is made to FIG. 2. This presupposes that a first programmable counter is started each time a tone key goes down and a second counter is started after each clock signal. Both counters are programmed so that they expire after 0.05 s. With regard to these counters, the query "counter expired?" the flowchart in Fig. 2 have the same function as the synchronizer 4 in Fig. 1. Otherwise, according to FIG. 2 self-explanatory.
