To prevent the formation of cavities, you have the lost head with heat protection compound

The head was surrounded by a protective layer, on the outside of which there was a heat-emitting layer

Protective layer and the heat-emitting mass are combined with one another. To this
Purposes are either the head of the block shape or the walls of the lost heads
consistently or only in their interior from combustible material, z. B. Coal, with a
their strength-increasing substance, e.g. B. Tön, stamped. - As a result, the
combustible mass only through a known protective layer of black
separated from the liquid metal. It follows that the fuel as a result
the immediate vicinity of the liquid metal quickly burns and
is brought to a high temperature by the interaction with the hot metal,
so that the metal is strongly heated by the fuel. But also transformed
the non-flammable admixture, for example clay, by burning away

The present invention is particularly applicable to cast steel (Fassonguss).
The casting heads in cast steel pursue the same purpose again sprue (here in the meaning
of the metal poured into the pouring head) in the case of ingots or like the upper one
Part of ingots made without a casting head, d. H. they serve as
a container for liquid metal to keep by means of the same in the casting during
to be able to fill any cavities that may arise during solidification. To this end too
meet, the size of the casting heads must be considerable, since only a small part
the metal poured into the casting head becomes effective, d. H. Cavities in the casting
fills, while the majority of the metal in the casting head solidifies on the walls.
It is therefore important to ensure that the walls do not cool down. That
happens by making the wall give off heat when it comes into contact with the metal.
When the liquid metal hits the walls of the watering head, the
Brought coal to glow and gives off heat to the metal, whereby the @ Värmestrahlung
of the metal is counteracted and solidification is delayed.
B. Borax. In diesem
The exothermic substance, e.g. B. the charcoal that is on the metal
glass must not hit liquid metal. That is why it is on the steel
brought either liquid slag or molten metal, its specific
Weight is less than that of the underlying metal. This will
, let the melting heat of the slag or the back metal exploited. You can also use
known way to add a substance that provides an insulating layer, .die
is made to glow or melted by the metal, e.g. B. Borax. In this
In this case, however, some heat is withdrawn from the metal. You can also use the heat emitting
Substance, namely coal, in one form or another with suitable substances
mix, which give an easily meltable slag, such as. B. with lime and
Kieselgux or Glasinehl, and cover the surface with this mixture. the
Slag-forming substances then melt and form an insulating layer between them
of coal and iron. You can also harden the surface of the metal
and immediately afterwards add the charcoal. It is only essential that the coal
is ignited and gives off heat to the metal, and that the coal does not with the
liquid metal can come into direct contact.
The present method is particularly useful for steel, can
but of course also used in the casting of pig iron and other metals
will.
