Description
Process and furnace for producing luminous gas from peat in vertical Retorts. The present invention relates to both a method and one Furnace for the production of coal gas by heating peat and similar fuel materials in retorts. The purpose of the invention is on the one hand in the production of luminous gas facilitate the formation of by-products, mainly ammonia and tar and, on the other hand, to decompose various gases formed when the peat is heated, which in and of themselves should not be included in the luminous gas, but if they do have entered, increase the heat value of the luminous gas after the decomposition.
Experiments have shown that the extraction of ammonia and tar from peat with heating of the latter by introducing water vapor into the peat, while it is in a certain stage of heating, relieved will. However, since the peat with which the retort is loaded, like any peat contains more or less water and this water, as previously known, to the greatest extent Part of the peat escapes while this is in the first stage of heating is, so this fact can be according to the present invention in such Take advantage of the fact that the gases which are formed in that part of the retort, where the peat is in the aforementioned stage of heating, drained from there and fed back into that part of the retort; where the peat the Has reached the temperature at which the tar is formed. In part of the retort, which between the above-mentioned points for draining and supplying the water vapor is, the peat is at a temperature at which, apart from the water carbonic acid also escapes. The gases formed in this part are also drained from the retort and let into the lower part of the same again, where the peat has reached the highest degree of heating for the purpose of one hand to facilitate the formation of ammonia and, on the other hand, to break up the gases can take place and after mixing with the luminous gas the calorific value of the latter is increased.
Thus, in accordance with the above, the content of the retort becomes divorced according to this invention into four different parts or groups, of which, if z. B. the heating in the retort is from o ° to goo °, the first part a temperature between 0 ° and, for example, 30 °, which drying stage can be called the second part a temperature between 300 ° and 5oo °, which Carbonation stage can be called, the third part a temperature between 500 ° and 7oo °, which is called the tar formation stage will can, while the fourth part at a temperature between 700 ° and 900 ° in a stage which can be called the gasification stage. Gases become that is, according to this invention, from one or more parts of the retort to another Share the same and for the purposes indicated above, on the one hand from the part that is in the drying stage to the part that is is in the tar formation stage, and on the other hand of the part which is in the carbonic acid formation stage located after the part in the gasification stage.
The above-mentioned number of degrees which (-cited around the Indicate the difference between the different parts or groups of the retort, are of course only to be regarded as approximate. - It is also a matter of course that this method of moving gases from one part of the retort to another, are used to achieve purposes other than those specified above, as well as that the contents of the retort can be divided into a different number of parts or groups, as stated above, can be classified.
A furnace designed to carry out the present method is shown in vertical section on the accompanying drawing.
At the upper end of a retort i there is a filling tube a with Lid 3. The retort is expediently a knee-forming end with a Flap 4 provided. Air is blown into a space 6 through a pipe g which the lower part of the retort is led and from which the air passes through Tube 7 either directly into the space 8, which receives the retort, or into a Tube g arrives through which combustible gas is fed to space 8. In In this space 8, the combustible gas is burned, with the retort being heated. The resulting combustion products escape through a pipe io. The walls the rooms 6 and 8 consist of a masonry ix.
For the purpose of distributing those generated in the retort during heating Gases is provided with the following pipelines or groups of pipelines. 12 is the tube (or group of tubes) through which the generated in the retort Gases that are ready to escape are diverted. 13 is the pipe (or the Tube group), which is the connection between the in the retort in the drying stage and which forms parts of the peat which are in the tar formation stage, and which to the purpose with one end with the top of the retort and with the other End connected approximately to the center of the retort or just below this point is. The link between the carbonated and in the retort The part of the peat that is in the gasification stage consists of the pipe (or the Tube group) i4, which is slightly above the lower end of the tube i3 from the retort goes off, and which is connected with its lower end to the lower part of the retort is. In the embodiment of the furnace shown, it is assumed that the original Part of the retort is at or just above where there is a knee forms, while the retort below this point serves as a cooling space. That R * 12 is shown on the drawing so "" that it is roughly straight in the middle between the connection points of the tube 14 or a little further down to the retort connected. In the tubes 13 and 14 pyrometers are attached, which the Specify the temperature of the gases in the same, also valves (on the drawing are not shown) available. By regulating these valves, the boundary between the Amounts of gas that go to the pipe 1, 3 or the pipe 14 are regulated, and also some of the gases which are above the upper connection point of the pipe 14 is forced down through the retort rather than through tube 14 to go.
When loading the retort and the filling pipe up to the Flap 3 filled up. The retort is therefore fueled during operation in different stages of heating completely fresh in the filling tube 2 until completely coked at the lower connection point .des pipe 14 available. if Coke is withdrawn from the flap 4, only one is removed from the retort Part of its contents, whereupon the retort and the filling tube back up to the flap 3 are filled.
The gases formed in the retort escape on the way to Tube 12, on which they encounter the least resistance. In the with fuel When the retort is filled, there is strong resistance to the gases in the pipes only low resistance. As a result, the gases going above the top Connection point of the pipe 14 are formed, down through this pipe and again up through that part of the retort which is between the lower connection point of the pipe and the pipe i2. - The one below .the upper connection point of the The gases formed in tube 14 go directly to tube 12. The very top of the retort formed gases pass through the pipe 13, the boundary between the zones in which Gases formed which after the pipes z3 or 1q. walk, lies approximately in the middle between the upper connection peaks of these pipes.
The temperature in room 8 and therefore in the retort is regulated in such a way that that gases of the correct temperature and consequently of a definite composition generated at the calculated points in the retort and thus gases of calculated composition be passed through the pipe system.
