Abstract

1. A process of manufacturing a helical coil, particularly a helically coiled exhaust gas duct, from a planar metal strip (1), which has corrugations (3) extending transversely to its longitudinal direction and which is twisted, characterized in that only the intermediate region of the sheet metal strip (1) is corrugated, the corrugations (3) are formed by means of a gearlike double roller tool, and the corrugations (3) extend relative to the longitudinal axis of the metal strip at an angle which differs from 90 so that the metal strip (1) follows the twist so as to dissipate the stresses applied by the formation of the corrugations (3).
