- the sheet metal strip 1 is then passed through a gear-like tool which creates a corrugation 3 in the central region 2 of the sheet metal strip 1, the axis 4 of the corrugation being at an angle of approximately 45 ° to the longitudinal axis 5 of the sheet metal strip.
- Two rollers can be used as tools, which are corrugated on their outer jacket, these corrugations running at the angle just mentioned.
- the two waves mesh with each other and press the sheet metal strip 1 between them in the middle.
- the waves can become flatter in the rollers in the edge region 5, so that there is a gradual transition from the central region 2 to the edge region 7 which has remained untreated, compare in particular FIG.
- the central area is shortened compared to the edge area, approximately by the amount by which the edge area is compared to the. Middle area is stretched.
- a compression of the central area is carried out, which is considerably easier to master in terms of process technology and tools than the stretching which leads to cracks.
- the finished helix can be seen from FIGS. Four and five, in two perpendicular views.

Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method according to the preamble of the claim.
From DE-C-337 027 a water heater for domestic use has become known, which has a gas combustion chamber and in the exhaust pipe above which a helically wound plate is arranged. This plate is obtained from straight, cross-corrugated workpieces by winding them around an axis. This results in two work steps from the starting material of the flat sheet metal strip, namely first the transverse corrugation and then the twisting. With this twisting, a considerable stretching of the edge areas of the helix takes place, which leads to not inconsiderable possibilities of tearing.
Furthermore, it is known from DE-A-2 848 679 to produce a coiled strip by perforation and subsequent twisting.
The object of the present invention is to simplify the winding of the sheet metal strip and to avoid tearing of the edge regions of the coil.
The solution to the problem lies in the features of the claim. Already by providing the corrugated area only in the middle of the sheet metal strip, not only the corrugation is generated, but also a twisting by appropriate compression to form the helical coil.
The sheet metal coil according to the invention is preferably used in exhaust gas flues from fuel-heated heat sources, in particular storage water heaters. It serves to swirl the hot exhaust gases of a burner running along in an exhaust pipe and to bring them into intimate contact with the inner wall of the exhaust pipe, which forms the inner wall of a water container on its outside.

- 2 shows a section along the line AB in FIG. 1,
- 3 shows a further section of the sheet metal strip along the line D in FIG. 1,
- Fig. 4 is a view of the coil of Fig. 1 and
- Fig. 5 shows a section along the line LM. In all five figures, the same reference numerals denote the same details.
A flat sheet metal strip, which is unwound from a roll as an endless material, is assumed as the starting material for the process. By introducing the
The finished helix can be seen from FIGS. Four and five, in two perpendicular views.
