Beim Schweißen langer Nähte ist es wesentlich, von der Bedienung möglichst unabhängig zu sein, um die Leistung der Maschine zu erhöhen und Fehlschweißungen hintanzuhalten. Die im Patent 300536' beschriebene Einrichtung nimmt eine von Hand zu betätigende Punktschweißvorrichtung mit einem Schweißstift an. Der Arbeiter muß für jeden Schweißpunkt einen Hebel bedienen, muß den Strom mittels eines Hand- oder Fußschalters ein- und ausschalten und darf dabei die Rücksichten nicht außer acht lassen, welche dem rechtzeitigen Ein- und Ausschalten zur Vermeldung des Spritzens und Verbrennens der Schweißstelle zukommen. Nach jedem Schweißpunkt ist die Schweißvorrichtung an einer Spindel vorwärts zu bewegen. Nicht unerwähnt sollen auch die bei schnellem Schweißen rasch aufeinanderfolgenden Stromstöße infolge der jedesmaligen Stromuriterbrechung bleiben, welche den Anschluß solcher Maschinen an ein Stromnetz oft unmöglich machen.
Um die Schweißung der Punkte auf der ganzen Länge zwischen den beiden Transformatoren selbsttätig und ohne Stromunterbrechung vornehmen zu können, wird, wie in der Figur dargestellt, eine an sich bekannte, mit einem Kranz aus Elektrodenstiften versehene Schweißrolle angewendet, welche mittels der Spindel des Apparates gleichmäßig an der Naht entlanggeführt wird.
