Description
The invention relates to a device for preventing capillary water migration between a damp/wet and/or salty masonry and a final coating (e.g. plaster); the masonry and, for example, the plaster system are separated from each other by capillary action by a separating layer.
Films and similar separating layers of various material compositions are used in the construction industry to protect coated and uncoated masonry from the penetration of air humidity and water and thus to avoid their damaging effects.
However, there are also plastering techniques known (information sheets 1-85 and 2-2-91 from the WTA Scientific-Technical Working Group for Monument Preservation and Building Restoration e.V., DIN 18550) in which the plaster, due to its material composition and structure (hydrophobic capillary and pore space), influences the capillary transport of water from the interior of the component, e.g. masonry, towards the surface in such a way that the coating surface (plaster, paint) usually remains dry and no subsequent damage occurs. The subsequent damage caused by water can be harmful mold or deposits of water-soluble salts, which destroy the masonry and the final coating.
Such a plaster system is only effective if the moisture content of the masonry is so low at the time of plastering and immediately after that that the plaster dries out faster than moisture (water) can flow from the masonry into the new plaster. Only then can the necessary hydrophobic treatment of the structure take place. To ensure this, additional, extensive and costly structural measures are often required on the masonry; e.g. horizontal water barriers by injecting chemical substances, and/or installing horizontal metal sheets, as well as creating drainage pipes. Depending on the structural conditions, such measures cannot be carried out for technical and/or cost reasons.
If the necessary reduction in the moisture content of the masonry cannot be achieved, the pore and capillary space of the new plaster will again fill with water.
Diesen Nachteil will die Vorrichtung vermeiden. The old masonry to be plastered often contains water-soluble salts. These then migrate with the water into the new plaster via capillary action. Effective capillary inactivity of the plaster structure (hydrophobicity) cannot then develop due to the coating of water-soluble salts. Further damage, as mentioned above, is then unavoidable. The device aims to avoid this disadvantage.
The device, as characterized in the claims, solves the problem by using a separating layer with a layer of filaments/nubs on one or both sides. This is the only way to achieve a permanently functioning capillary separation between the masonry and the final coating. This separating layer is attached to the prepared, possibly normally plastered masonry using a plate dowel. The outer filament/nub layer serves as a plaster carrier. A plaster carrier (metal grid) can only be mounted on the outside of the separating layer if a particularly large load of a final coating (e.g. plaster) is expected. In this case, the use of a separating layer with outer filaments/nubs is not necessary.
Mixing water from the fresh plaster cannot get to the masonry, and moisture from the masonry cannot get to the plaster. This reliably prevents water from wandering back and forth and water-soluble salts from migrating into the fresh, new plaster structure. The plaster structure can dry out and harden undisturbed and build up its capillary inactivity (hydrophyte). In most cases, the use of an expensive, special plaster layer (renovation plaster system) can even be dispensed with.
Of crucial importance and a prerequisite for the effectiveness of this new device is that the carrier material of the separating layer (fabric/fleece) does not hinder the diffusion of water vapor in any way. This gives the moisture in the masonry the opportunity to escape by diffusion over the new, large-area, dry plaster layer. The evaporation zone is on the masonry surface. There is plenty of space between the masonry and the filament/stud separating layer where the water-soluble salts can settle without causing any damage.
However, it is more effective and successful than is described in the WTA data sheet cited above as the principle of operation of a plaster system. This is because the device according to the invention can ignore high levels of masonry moisture, salt contamination and unfavourable ambient climate at the time of plastering without subsequent damage than is possible with another plaster system without the above-mentioned accompanying
If a film or similar is used instead of the fabric/fleece of the separating layer discussed, which does not ensure sufficient water vapor diffusion, the moisture content of the masonry increases. Due to the capillarity of the masonry structure, the area of the masonry wetness increases (horizontally and vertically); the consequential damage increases.
Even when using a suitable, capillary-inactive, vapor-permeable film, which lies directly on the masonry, the capillary inactivity is canceled out by the wetting agents (surfactants) in the new plaster. The moisture in the masonry with the dissolved salts can then migrate unhindered into the new plaster layer.
The device is described in more detail below using a working example. Figure 1 shows a masonry cross-section consisting of natural stones (1) and masonry mortar (2) with a capillary-bonded plaster layer (3).
Figur 2 zeigt den gleichen Mauerwerksquerschnitt mit anmontierter neuer Trenn lage Filament/Noppen (4) mauerwerksseitig, welche die kapillare Verbindung zwischen dem wasserführenden Mauerwerk (1) und der neuen Putzschicht (8), mit Putzträger-Gitter (5) unterbricht, sowie die Tellerdübel-Halterung (6).Figure 2 shows the same masonry cross-section with the new separating layer filament/studs (4) mounted on the masonry side, which interrupts the capillary connection between the water-bearing masonry (1) and the new plaster layer (8), with plaster carrier grid (5), as well as the plate dowel holder (6).
The outer filament/nub layer acts as a carrier for the new plaster layer (8).
