Single-celled green and blue algae such as spirulina, chlorella and dunaliella are by far the most nutrient-rich foods (Kay 1991, Crit. Rev. Food Sei. Nutr. 30, 555). Because of their high energy value, they have long been used in the treatment of nutritional disorders and deficiency syndromes (FlCA et al. 1984, Rev. Med. Int. Med. Int. 36, 225). For some time now they have been increasingly regarded as commercially important sources of high-quality protein, so-called "single cell protein" (CHlBA SHOYU 1980, J. Jpn. Soy Sauce Res. Inst. 6, 92), of vitamins such as ascorbic acid, tocopherol and carotenoids (Klausner 1986, Biol. Technology 4, 947), of glyco- and sulfolipids (Kataoka and MlSAKl 1983, Agr. Biol. Chem. 47, 2349) and as raw materials for a wide variety of taste-neutral food additives and colorants.
The therapeutic potential of microalgae is further increased by the fact that numerous positive effects of algae diets on the health of humans and animals have been described for some time. These include, first and foremost, the prophylactic effect of an algae diet on cancer. Experimentally induced forms of cancer of the throat (Schwartz et al. 1988, Nutr. Cancer 11, 127 and SCHWARTZ and SHKLAR 1987, J. Oral Maxillofac. Surg. 45, 510) as well as the spontaneous genesis of breast cancer (Nagasawa et al. 1989, Anticancer Res. 9, 71 and Combs et al. 1989 Nutr. Cancer 12, 371) could be suppressed with spirulina and di-naphthalene extracts. Reports on a radio-protective effect of aqueous algal extracts (Rotkovska et al. 1989, Strahlenther. Onkol. 165 . 813; VACEK et al. 1990, Exp. Haematol. 18, 237; QiSHEN et al. 1989, Toxicology Lett. 48, 165) could be explained in this context by the extremely high carotene contents of the algae (up to 10 % of the dry biomass, see Ben-Amotz and Avron 1983, Plant Physiol. 72, 593). In some forms of hypercholesterolemia, supplementation of the diet with microalgae also has a positive effect (DEVI and VENKATARAMAN 1983, Nutr. Rep. Int. 28, 519; SANO et al. 1988, Arten/15, 217; NAKAYA et al. 1988, Nutr. Rep. Int. 37, 1329). For example, experimentally induced atherosclerosis in cholesterol-fed cats could be prevented.

Cancer Inst. 8J., 1254) Mikroalgen-Diäten empfohlen.ninchen can be reduced by dried, powdered preparations of microalgae. Finally, microalgae diets are also recommended for gastrointestinal complaints and digestive disorders (JASSBY 1988, Algae and Human Affairs, Cambridge University Press, BECKER 1986, Handbook of Microalgal Mass Culture, CRC Press) as well as for viral infectious diseases (GUSTAVSON et al. 1989, J. Nail. Cancer Inst. 8J., 1254).
"functional food" (O'BRIEN 1992, Trends Food Sei. Technol. 3,127) zum Inhalt. Hierbei wird die Algenbiomasse an Cyclodextrin gebunden. The first pharmaceutical products that use the probiotic properties of algae already exist in the form of capsules, tablets and suspensions. For example, the patents JP 88-40756 and JP 88-40753 of the Japanese scientist TANAKA cover the genetic preparation of algae masses for a so-called "functional food" (O'BRIEN 1992, Trends Food Sci. Technol. 3,127). The algae biomass is bound to cyclodextrin.
Heimbadekuren). The new medicinal products, the protection of which has been applied for here, allow for the first time the targeted use of algae for the treatment and prophylaxis of diseases, health and well-being disorders, especially in balneotherapy and thalassotherapy (including home spa treatments).
Such applications can be based on conventional medical, naturopathic, dietary or cosmetic considerations.
The algae-containing preparations can be applied either internally, e.g. as a drinking cure, or externally, e.g. in the form of rubs, baths and packs ("synthetic" healing mud), locally, systemically or in combination.
Therapieansätze zunehmend medizinisch in Frage gestellt. Balneotherapy and thalassotherapy for dermatological and cardiovascular indications are increasingly being questioned from a medical perspective due to the ever louder demand for unequivocal scientific proof of the effectiveness of its treatment methods and therapeutic approaches. In view of this situation, the demand for such therapeutic approaches has steadily decreased. Only the development of innovative therapeutic agents whose medical value can be scientifically proven will demonstrably increase the effectiveness and thus the attractiveness of spa treatments and balneotherapy and thalassotherapy in the future.
The novel medicinal products for bath therapy described in claim 1 and the associated subclaims meet these requirements.
The novelty of our product for balneotherapy and thalassotherapy is that its therapeutic value differs from that of conventional remedies (medicinal waters, bathing brines, etc.) due to a holistically oriented and well-considered integration of algae biomass into the conventional products and procedures of bath therapy:
By combining natural healing salts and algae active ingredients, the active profile of both components is enhanced in a synergistic manner.
By immobilizing the algae biomass on therapeutically valuable bio- and geopolymers, their medical value is increased in a specific and synergistic way for different areas of application, depending on the type of flocculant used. Not only pharmacological aspects play a role here, but also mechanical aspects, especially in the case of rubbings and packs (e.g. gentle abrasion effects due to finely distributed minerals).
By using natural and degradable flocculants or adsorbents, there are no disposal problems, so our preparations are completely ecologically harmless.
The subclaims mentioned relate to the different possibilities of designing our invention.
Baineo-Phyco-Therapie).For example, to treat psoriasis, extremely halophilic green algae such as Dunaliella salina are grown in the brine of a healing spring, which is already used as a therapeutic agent in its natural form (e.g. in balneo-phototherapy) due to its high mineral salt content, and then mixed with fine-grained quartz powder or silica. This remedy is then applied locally to the affected areas of skin in the form of rubdowns or a healing bath. Due to the high glycerine content of the algae and the abrasive effect of the mineral, the therapeutic effect of the healing brine is thus enhanced in a synergistic manner (so-called baineo-phyco-therapy).
Balneo-Phycoxy-Therapie).In the case of accompanying phototherapy, the photosynthetic effect of living flocculated algae ensures a significantly improved local oxygen supply to the skin, which may further increase the penetration of the active substances (so-called balneo-phycoxy therapy).
