Abstract

Staple fibres or fibre tows are packaged into bales in a multi-stage process by intermediate compression of the fibres delivered by a discharge device in a compression container (3), conveying the compressed fibres in package form to a main press (4), which is supplied with compressed fibres from other discharge devices and compressing and packaging the intermediately compressed packages. Bales of high bulk density are produced and manner of packaging prevents contamination of fibres, e.g. by rust from steel tapes, during transport and storage.
