Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf einen Apparat, durch welchen man die den bekannten Telegraphenschlüssel- (Code-) Wörtern entsprechenden Schlüsselzahlen durch Wörter von fünf Buchstaben ersetzen kann. Hiermit wird bezweckt, die Kosten für Telegramme zu vermindern, denn durch die Reduktion von Telegraphenschlüsselzahlen von mehr als fünf Ziffern auf Wörter von fünf Buchstaben würde ίο nach der z. Der Apparat besteht aus dem Gehäuse a, in dessen Oberseite fünf Schlitze I, II, IV, VI und VII angeordnet sind, in welchen die Handhaben b von Schiebestreifen c geführt sind. Diese im Gehäuse in ihrer Längsrichtung verschiebbar angebrachten Schiebestreifen c bewegen sich vor in dem Gehäuse befindlichen Fenstern d, e, f, g, h, i und k, so daß man durch diese Fenster die auf den Schiebestreifen c angebrachten, mit der neben den Schlitzen I, II, IV, VI und VII ersichtlichen Zeichenfolge korrespondierenden Zahlen und Buchstaben ablesen kann. Die Schiebestreifen, von denen I mit III und V mit VII durch die Verbindung I gekuppelt sind, tragen auf ihrer Rückseite Zähne, durch welche sie beim Verschieben eine Zahnwalze m mit der Zahlenscheibe η in Drehung versetzen, wobei jede Teildrehung dem Verschieben des Schiebe-Streifens einer Zeichenteilung bei den Schlitzen entspricht.The apparatus consists of the housing a, in the upper side of which five slots I, II, IV, VI and VII are arranged, in which the handles b are guided by sliding strips c. Im Fenster g (Streifen IV) wird »m« eingestellt usw., bis das Wort »ohmum« erkennbar ist. Dann hat sich in den oberen Hälften der Fenster d bis k die Schlüsselzahl 56989 eingestellt und ferner in dem Fenster w die Kontrollzahl 1. Irrtümer in der Zusammenstellung oder Entzifferung läßt der Apparat nicht zu. Wäre das Wort verstümmelt worden, dann würde sich in mindestens 66 Prozent der Fälle (nach der theoretischen Verstümmelungsmöglichkeit ist der Prozentsatz noch bedeutend größer) eine andere Kontrollzahl ergeben haben, die aber eine andere Buchstabenfolge des Wortes, als tatsächlich vorhanden, bedingen würde.To decipher the word "ohmum", which begins with a vowel, the slider 0 would have to be set to 1.
