The invention relates to a method for producing foam glass with closed cells, in which a
Mixture of powdered glass and propellants heated up to the melting temperature of the glass and
is then cooled again.
From US-PS 33 25 264. Such a method is known, is used in the propellant as manganese dioxide is added to the heated to about 1000 0 C glass melt. If the temperature is increased further, the manganese dioxide releases oxygen in the range between 1040 and 1090 ° C., which leads to the formation of gas bubbles. The foaming process should be ended by rapidly lowering the glass temperature to about 76O 0 C. At this temperature, MnO2 should no longer decompose, but the glass should still be sufficiently liquid to be able to be poured into molds.

The transition from Mn2Ü3 to MnO becomes free is not
sufficient to produce a low density foam glass. Therefore, in practice, only the addition of
Manganese dioxide come into question for the melt.
Breaking off the foaming process by lowering the reaction temperature is also not possible in practice

The difficulties resulting from the low thermal conductivity of the foam glass in the
Control of the foaming process by the action of heat also exist when other blowing agents than
MnO2 can be used, such as lamp soot,
as is known from GB-PS 6 23 806 and 6 23 807, GB-PS 14 07 515 and BE-PS 7 10 372.
These known methods make use of an extremely long heat treatment, almost two
Days and does not allow an economical production of foam glass.
From US-PS 38 74 861 a method for the production of foam glass is known in which amorphous
Minerals with a high SiO2 content are used, such as perlite, however, it is
here not a propellant, but a basic component of the foam glass to be produced.
In the known method the perlite is expanded, i. H. by heating by evaporation
bloated by its own water content. This creates an open-pored product that is very absorbent.
This product is then further processed using water glass and other products,
whereby the expanded perlite no longer experiences any significant changes, but rather from the others
Substances is bound. The result is an open-pored product that, similar to porous clay, is absorbent and in
is not useful in all cases where a product is required that has closed cells.
In addition, the perlite is a volcanic, glass-like substance, but not completely melted through,
so that the known perlite product is not a real foam glass either.
annehmbaren Grenzen bleibt.Accordingly, the invention is based on the object of a method for producing foam glass

is. This includes the fact that waste glass can be used as a starting material and the energy requirements in
acceptable limits.

This object is achieved according to the invention in that an amorphous mineral of class AB2 ■ η WiO of the crystal chemical mineral system, in which A and B each mean an atom and η an integer, in an amount of up to about 25 wt. %, based on the total weight of the mixture, is used.
Es hat sich überraschend gezeigt, daß bei Verwendung dieser Mineralien, die zur ersten Ordnung derIt has surprisingly been found that when using these minerals belonging to the first order of the
