The present invention relates to a method for producing j 3,4-Oichlorobutene-i by isomerization of 1,4-dichlorobutene-2 or of!
1,4-Dichlorbuten-2 durch Isomerisation von 3,4-Dichlorbuten-1.1,4-dichlorobutene-2 by isomerization of 3,4-dichlorobutene-1.
The dichlorobutene obtained by chlorination of butadiene is a mixture of the isomeric compounds 1,4-dichlorobutene-2 and 3,4-Oichlorbuten- · !, the> dBr contains about 60% of the former compound and the latter compound is about $ 40. These two isomers are usually in equilibrium in the mixture, the ratio depending on the manufacturing conditions.
The usual procedure for isomerizing 1,4-dichlorobutene-2 into 3,4-dichlorobutene-1 or of 3,4-dichlorobutene-i in 1,4-0ichlorobutene-2 consists in heating of the mixed isomers with one or more metal salts of copper, iron, zinc, titanium, aluminum, zirconium etc. as a catalyst or in the heating of the Isomers in the absence of catalysts. Regardless of the process used for isomerization, the rate of conversion is undesirably slow, and to get adequate yields of the correct isomer are high Temperatures required, which lead to certain undesirable by-products.

It has now been found that the use of a special catalyst preparation the rate of the isoraerization reactions is noticeably accelerated.
The process according to the invention for the isomerization of 1 ( 4-dichlorobutene-2 in 3 f 4- "oleobutene-1 or for the isomerization of 3,4-dichlorobutene-1 in 1,4-dichlorobutene-2 is characterized in that the brings the compound to be isoraerized with a catalyst preparation made of copper naphthenate in combination with at least one organic dihydroxy compound.
The organic hydroxy compound used in the catalyst preparation according to the invention can be an alkyl-substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic compound with primary, secondary or tertiary hydroxyl groups. Examples of suitable compounds are diols such as ethylene glycol, propylene glycols, butanediols, etc. Preferably, however werdBn Dihyriroxyverbindungen with hydroxyl groups on adjacent carbon atoms can be used, such as ethylene glycol, propane-1,2-diol f 3-methoxypropane-1,2-diol and butane-2, 3-diQl, or dihydroxy compounds with hydroxyl groups on carbon atoms which are separated by another carbon atom, such as, for example, propane-1,3-diol and butane-1,3-diol. Compounds such as polyethylene glycol can also be used.
The amount of the organic dihydroxy compound present in the catalyst preparation can cover a moderately wide range between 0.5-10 wt .- ^ i of the total ^ Catalyst and dichlorobutene. Existing mixture vary.
The isomerization reaction according to the invention can be carried out at temperatures between −β0-160 C 1, preferably between IDD-130. The process according to the invention can be carried out batchwise or continuously. Continuous implementation is preferred. If 1,4-dichlorobutene-2 is to be converted into 3,4-dichlorobutene-i, then the first-mentioned compound or the above-described direct chlorination product of butadiene, which has expediently been freed from high-boiling materials, is continuous introduced into a reactor containing the catalyst. This is heated and pure 3,4-dichlorobutene-i is distilled off through a fractionation column. The apparatus is preferably kept under reduced pressure since it is neither necessary nor convenient to carry out the reaction at the normal boiling point of the dichlorobutenes. The distillation ^ can thus take place from the reactor itself. Since 3,4-dichlorobutene-1 has a lower boiling point than 1,4-dichlorobutene-2, the equilibrium of the reaction will be reduced in favor of the first-mentioned compound, and all of the 1,4-dichlorobutene-2, which is needed to maintain a constant Amount introduced into the reactor is converted into 3,4-dichlorobutene-i. It is emphasized that there is no loss of catalyst in the 3,4-dichlarbutene-1 distilled off. However, since a very small portion is converted to the dichlorobutenes in high-boiling materials, a small stream from the reactor must be removed as a liquid to the accumulation of high boiling materials to avoid comparable ύ. This stream is subjected to a separate distillation to recover the oichlorobutene content, which can be returned to the reactor. When doing this, the catalyst is left in the stream of high-boiling materials, so that in practice a small amount of catalyst has to be added to the reactor as a replacement. This should be sufficient to maintain the preferred rate of response.

If the conversion of 3,4-dichlorobutene-i into 1,4-dichlorobutene-2 is desired the mixed dichlorobutenes are again introduced into a continuous reactor system as described above; around in this case, however Separating the 1,4-dichlorobutene-2 becomes a liquid stream from the reactor at a corresponding point near the bottom of a fracturing column, which is not connected to the reactor and has its own digester, deducted. The 3,4-0ichlorobutene-1 is removed from the top of the column and in recycled to the reactor, while ^ vaporous 1,4-dichlorobutene-2 close the bottom of the column, but is withdrawn below the feed point. The catalyst-containing stream from the column digester becomes the reactor recycled, with a suitable portion removed for separate distillation is used to avoid accumulation of high boiling point materials in the reactor. Regular addition of catalyst to the reactor is necessary as Substitute for the amount removed in the high boiling point stream and to maintain the rate of reaction.
