Abstract

The short-circuit protection circuit protects d.c. supplies against overloads arising from short circuits on the load side of the rectifier bridge. A short circuit on the d.c. side of the bridg echarges a capacitor on the bridge's a.c. side. The capacitor discharges through a resistor and biasses on a transistor, which turns off the thyristor applying the a.c. to the rectifier bridge's input. The transistor overrides the voltage normally applied to the thyristor to keep the latter on so that during the next half-period the thyristor goes open circuit and thereby prevents the supply from being overloaded.
