"Verfahren zur Stabilisierung von ungesättigten Carbonsäuren""Process for the stabilization of unsaturated carboxylic acids"
The present invention relates to a method of stabilization of unsaturated carboxylic acids.
Es ist daher wesentlich, daß diese Monomeren während der Herstellung, der Lagerung und dem Transport genügend stabilisiert werden (durch eine PolymerisatiönsinhibierungUnsaturated carboxylic acids, such as acrylic acid or methacrylic acid (hereinafter referred to as monomers for the sake of simplicity are called) are valuable starting materials for the chemical industry. However, it is well known that these compounds are extremely unstable and tend to undergo polymerization reaction with ease. It is therefore essential that these monomers be sufficient during manufacture, storage and transportation are stabilized (by a polymerization inhibition

. . .• the monomers). Light and heat are particularly effective means of initiating the polymerization of these monomers. Accordingly, when you these monomers high during the work-up in the distillation and refining temperatures suspends (5O 0 C and higher, in particular 70 to 15O 0 C and even higher temperatures) polymers from these monomers precipitated in the system and clog * often Distillation column, lines etc. which seriously disrupts the operation. Thus, the high propensity of these monomers to be polymerized is a major technical and economic disadvantage. . . .
As widely used: common polymerization inhibitors for acrylic acid or methacrylic acid, compounds such as hydroquinone, phenol, tert-butyl catechol, eresol, Phenothiazine, ethylene thiourea, etc. are called, however, these known compounds do not give satisfactory results. Many of these well-known Compounds are unable to stabilize the monomers against high temperatures. Come in addition, that the monomers are particularly prone to polymerization when interacting with stainless steel or carbon steel come into contact, so that in such a pail practically no sufficiently effective polymerization inhibitor can be found among the known compounds. Farther show even those polymerization inhibitors which have a certain stabilizing effect at high temperatures rarely have an effective stabilizing effect for a long period of time.
Demzufolge besteht die Aufgabe der vorliegenden Erfindung darin, ein Verfahren zur Verhinderung der Polymerisation von Acrylsäure oder Methacrylsäure insbesondere bei erhöhten Temperaturen zu schaffen unter Verwendung eines neuen Poly-Accordingly, there is the object of the present invention therein, a method for preventing the polymerization of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid especially at elevated levels Create temperatures using a new poly-

Demzufolge schafft die vorliegende Erfindung ein Verfahren zur Verhinderung der Polymerisation von ungesättigten Carbonsäuren, wie von Acrylsäure und Methacrylsäure, das dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß man zu den Säuren eine Kombination von .Accordingly, the present invention provides a method to prevent the polymerization of unsaturated carboxylic acids, as of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid, which is characterized in that one of the acids is one Combination of .

(II) mindestens eine hydroxylgruppenhaltige Verbindung, wie Kresole, 4,4-Thio-bis-6-tert.-butyl-3-methylphenol, Dihydroxybenzolderivate und Pyrogallol in ausreichenden Mengen, um die Polymerisation des Monomeren zu inhibieren, als Polymerisationsinhibitor zugibt.(II) at least one compound containing hydroxyl groups, such as cresols, 4,4-thio-bis-6-tert-butyl-3-methylphenol, Dihydroxybenzene derivatives and pyrogallol in sufficient amounts to cause the monomer to polymerize inhibit, adding as a polymerization inhibitor.
Angesichte der Tateachen, daß bei den Vergleichsansätzen, bei denenThe exact mechanism of the stabilizing effect of these phosphorus compounds (I) and the compounds (II) containing hydroxyl groups on the unsaturated carboxylic acid has not been fully clarified. in keinem· Pail eine Stabilisierungswirkung beobachtet wer- d-en konnte und angesichts der Tatsache, daß die gemeinsame Verwendung der Verbindungen (I) und (II) keinerlei, synergistischen Effekt auf die Stabilisierung von ungesättigten Carbonsäureestern bewirkt, wird angenommen, daß ein gewisser synergistischer Effekt durch die Kombination von Verbindungen (I) und (il) und der ungesättigten Carbonsäure, wie es erfindung3geraäß angegeben wird, erzielt wird. no stabilizing effect was observed in any of the pails could and in view of the fact that the joint use of the compounds (I) and (II) causes a synergistic effect on the stabilization of unsaturated carboxylic acid esters, it is assumed that a certain synergistic effect is achieved through the combination of compounds (I) and (II) and the unsaturated carboxylic acid, as indicated according to the invention.
Offensichtlich ist der Inhibitor extrem brauchbar, wenn er zu dem Veresterungsreaktions-. system der ungesättigten Carbonsäure zugesetzt wird* Die ungesättigte Carbonsäure, die durch ein kürzlich angegebenes Verfahren erhalten wurde, d.h. bei dem Acrylsäure oder Methacrylsäure durch Oxidation von Propylen, Acrolein oder Isobutylen und Methacrolein hergestellt wird, enthältThe polymerization inhibitor of the present invention exhibits a remarkable stabilizing effect over a long period of time not only when using the monomers at low levels Temperatures, such as during storage, hold, but especially when the monomer is exposed to elevated temperatures. Furthermore, the stabilizing effect is achieved when the monomer comes into contact with stainless steel or carbon steel comes, not diminished or impaired. The polymerization inhibitor according to the invention also shows a unique effect in that it has a satisfactory stabilizing effect even under severe conditions exerts when the monomer alone is exposed to elevated temperatures. Obviously the inhibitor is extremely useful when related to the esterification reaction. system of unsaturated carboxylic acid is added * The unsaturated carboxylic acid produced by a recently specified Process, i.e., in which acrylic acid or methacrylic acid is obtained by the oxidation of propylene, acrolein or isobutylene and methacrolein is made

However, the stabilizing effect of the present inhibitor shows in No significant reduction in the presence of these impurities.
As already stated, the object of the present invention is essentially achieved by the simultaneous use of the above-mentioned phosphorus compound (I) and the hydroxyl group-containing compound (II) as polymerizations. achieved inhibitor for acrylic acid or methacrylic acid. It has now been found that the stabilizing effect of the inhibitor for monomeric acrylic acid or methacrylic acid by the addition of a third compound (III), such as phosphoric acid esters, phosphine derivatives or benzaldehyde, together with the above-mentioned compounds (I) and (II). can be increased further. If the compounds (I), (II) and (III) are used together, the polymerization of the monomer can take place at points where the monomer is condensed from the gaseous phase, for example on the inner wall surface in the upper part of the distillation column, on the periphery be effectively inhibited the inner wall surface of the Cooler odsran locations where the Monomerennebel staying.

:As is clearly shown by the results shown in the four tables given above, the addition of the compounds (I) and (II) given according to the invention to the unsaturated carboxylic acid effectively prevents the polymerization of the honor at elevated temperatures over a prolonged period. In contrast, if the compound (I) is replaced by a polyphosphate such as sodium tripolyphosphate or sodium metaphosphate, which are phosphorus compounds outside the scope of the compound (I), no such stabilizing effect is achieved (see Comparative Examples 1 to 5) · · ; Furthermore, it can be seen that if either the compound (I) or (II) are used alone or hydroxyl-. group-containing compound outside the scope of the compound (II) (including the usually used stabilizers) can be used alone (see. Comparative Examples 6 to 27) or the hydroxyl group-containing compound outside the scope of the compound (I) together with the compound (II ) is used (see Comparative Examples 28 to 37), essentially a stabilization of the monomer at elevated temperatures can be achieved. :
·Furthermore, the attempt to the polymerization of the ethyl ester of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid using the erfindungßgemäßen inhibitor under the same Untertu chungsbedinguhgeri as de.n PBEN used to prevent tu, no synergistic stabilizing effect, the term by the same "use showed the compounds (I) and (II) was achieved. ·

The compounds given in Tables V to VI below were added in the amounts given to refined methacrylic acid or acrylic acid. In each batch, the system was placed in an autoclave in such a way that the volume of the liquid portion (the liquid phase portion of the honey) was essentially the same as that of the unfilled space (gas phase portion of the monomer) and that both portions with the stainless steel in Touch were. Then the system was left to stand reflux for 10 hours, the liquid phase was maintained at 130 0 C and the vapor phase was cooled from außsen to 20 to 30 0 C. The state of the solution (liquid phase) was observed after standing for 5 and 10 hours and examined for the formation of the insoluble polymer. The results are also given in Tables V and VI, where the term "solidified" means that the entire sample was solidified by polymerization. The expressions 11 IiU "and" AA "represent an abbreviation for methacrylic acid and acrylic acid, respectively. The samples of the examples according to the invention, which were transparent after standing for 10 hours, were poured into η-hexane and then examined whether a polymer was failed. The samples were rated for polymer precipitation as follows:?
Aj Substantially no haze or very little Cloudiness.
B: Ausfällung einer großen Menge Polymerisats.B: Precipitation of a large amount of polymer.
