The complex easily precipitates and is then filtered off and washed with dioxane. The reaction proceeds under reflux and a reaction product is formed which is the desired 4- (IT, N "-dialkyl-] J-alkyl) -2-butene-1-3ulfonate in considerable Contains yield. By nuclear magnetic resonance analysis and infrared analysis, the presence of the desired reaction product was confirmed.

The material is then left in a refrigerator set at -18 0 G overnight and the white solids are then filtered off and washed with acetone. The solids are dissolved in a solution of 50 % ethanol (95 %, denatured with 5% methanol) in water until a solids content of 20% is set . The pH value is increased to about 9 with 50% sodium hydroxide solution in order to release the aisin from the salt form. Filtration is then carried out to remove the sodium salts and washing with petroleum ether, followed by drying to form solids. The material is then dissolved in water setting a value of 62 % volatile - 38 % solids. Analysis confirmed the presence of 4- (N-dodecyl-N, N-dimethyl) -2-butene-1-sulfonate as the reaction product.

As is customary in a washing stage, the fabrics are then kept in motion in the detergent solution. Although the time period may vary, automatic agitation washers generally employ a Y / ash section lasting 8 to 15 minutes.
Components are incorporated.
Materials that are normal and customary additives in liquid or granular detergent and cleaning agent mixtures can also be added to the mixtures according to the invention without significantly modifying the basic characteristics of the unsaturated zwitterionic detergent surfactant. For example, an opacification inhibitor such as benzotriazole or xethylene thiourea can be added in narrow amounts of up to about 1%. Fluorescent substances, perfume, dyes, enzymes, anti-redeposition agents, thickeners, opacifiers or other detergents. Bonds, as well as mixing or viscosity regulating agents, although they are not essential in the mixtures according to the invention, can also be added.
The zwitterionic surfactant compounds according to the invention are particularly valuable because of their excellent overall soil removal properties. In addition, these compounds have excellent whiteness retention properties when used in combination with the above-described builder compounds. Detergent tests have shown that the unsaturated zwitterionic compounds according to the invention give an overall detergent effect at least equivalent to such excellent detergents as sodium tallow alkyl sulfate and 3- (coconut alkyl dimethylanmonio) -2-hydroxy-1-sulfonate.
