Description
Einleitungintroduction
The invention relates to the field of filter systems. In particular, the invention relates to a filter system with improved long-term properties.
Stand der Technik und NachteileState of the art and disadvantages
Filter systems are well known from the prior art. They are used to clean liquids containing pollutants or particles. The filter material is designed in such a way that dissolved pollutants or existing particles are retained on a high pressure side due to the material properties (e.g. activated carbon) or the microstructure (e.g. pore size) of the filter. The components to be removed gradually accumulate on this side (particles) or slowly penetrate deeper layers (pollutants). The service life of the filter is reached if the flow rate is reduced too much due to an excessive amount of particles, or if the pollutants have penetrated the filter and rendered it ineffective.
Such filter systems also include a housing in which the filter is inserted, and (at least) one liquid inlet and (at least) one liquid outlet. The housing can be opened to replace the filter, the filter can be exchanged for a fresh one, and the housing can be closed again.
In certain cases the liquid to be cleaned contains both pollutants and particles. A filter that is then used and retains the pollutants can - provided that the pore size is appropriate - retain the particles at the same time. However, this may reduce the service life of the filter considerably, since it must be replaced if either the number of particles is too large or the amount of pollutants has become too high. Typically, this is not the case at the same time, so that the filter cannot utilize its full capacity for both components to be filtered.
Another problem is determining when to replace the filter. For example, the manufacturers specify corresponding intervals after which the replacement should take place. This can lead to premature replacement of the filter, since the intervals are usually too short rather than too long. Another disadvantage is the need to maintain the age of the currently used filter in order to be able to determine the exchange time from it. If the replacement or the checking of the condition of the filter is pending, this is time-consuming, at least in inaccessible installation situations, since the housing must first be reached, then opened, and finally the filter must be removed, inspected and, if necessary, replaced.
The problems described are particularly relevant with regard to pollutant filters provided for removing pollutants, if the liquid to be cleaned is also contaminated with particles.

The invention is therefore based on the object of providing a device which avoids the disadvantages of the prior art.
A filter system according to the invention should accordingly increase the service life of a pollutant filter without having to accept compromises in terms of effectiveness.

Beschreibungdescription
Zunächst erfolgt die Beschreibung eines erfindungsgemäßen Filtersystems.A filter system according to the invention is first described.
The filter system is used to clean liquids loaded with particles and pollutants, such as, in particular, process water, which comes from an uncontrolled source and therefore can be contaminated with particles in addition to pollutants. Germs and bacteria are also to be counted among the pollutants. The filter system comprises a housing with a liquid inlet and a liquid outlet, as well as a pollutant filter that can be inserted into this housing and through which the liquid to be cleaned can flow. This pollutant filter can in principle also serve as a particle filter, as is known from the prior art. However, loading with particles leads to a reduction in the service life of the pollutant filter.
The filter system according to the invention is characterized in that the housing comprises a prefilter which is placed upstream of the pollutant filter. The pre-filter is designed as a particle filter and has a pore size adapted to the respective task. This can be between 3 µm and 100 µm, for example. Accordingly, the liquid is first passed through the particle-filtering prefilter, where the particles are (largely) retained. The one leaving the pre-filter Liquid therefore (essentially) only contains the pollutants. These are then held back by the actual filter, which is designed as a pollutant filter. This increases the service life of the pollutant filter because it is not clogged by particles at an early stage and only has to be replaced when its capacity to bind pollutants is exhausted. Since the pre-filter is specially adapted to the task of retaining particles, it has a longer service life than a “combined” filter known from the state of the art (integrated with both particles and pollutants).
Nevertheless, it cannot be ruled out that the service life of the prefilter will be exhausted before the pollutant filter also has to be replaced. For this purpose, a viewing window is arranged in the housing, through which the pre-filter can be inspected for the purpose of visual inspection of its condition. The state of the prefilter can thus be checked in a simple manner, and in particular without opening the housing. The viewing window does not have to show the complete pre-filter, but rather an area sufficient to assess its condition.
The invention thus avoids the disadvantages known from the prior art.
The filter system according to the invention increases the service life of the (pollutant) filter without having to accept compromises in terms of its effectiveness, since its service life is not reduced by the parallel filtering of particles. The optimal time to replace the prefilter can be determined without having to open the housing; a visual inspection is easier to carry out even in inaccessible installation situations. The age of the pre-filter does not necessarily have to be kept track of.
Various embodiments of the invention are described in more detail below.
According to one embodiment, the pollutant filter and the pre-filter are designed to be flat and are arranged in the housing adjacent to one another or spaced parallel to one another. This means that the filters have an essentially flat shape and preferably also have a constant thickness. For example, the pollutant filter can be designed as a cuboid with an edge length of 5 cm x 5 cm x 2 cm, and the pre-filter can have an edge length of 5 cm x 5 cm x 0.5 cm. A circular geometry is also advantageous. The two filters can be stacked on top of each other in a simple manner and thus form a two-layer combination filter system, the particle-filtering component of which can be easily exchanged without having to exchange the pollutant-filtering component at the same time. Optionally, there is a space between the two filters. This allows the liquid leaving the pre-filter to be better distributed before it penetrates the pollutant filter.
According to another embodiment, the pollutant filter and the pre-filter are cylindrical and can be placed one inside the other. This means that the filters have an essentially round base area and a height perpendicular to it, the body thus resulting in each case also being designed to be hollow in its central area. For example, such a hollow cylinder can have a diameter of 3 cm to 10 cm and a height of 2 cm to 20 cm, with a cavity in its interior which is still sufficiently large to accommodate the other filter, or for an appropriate flow rate the inflowing, uncleaned liquid. This depends on the direction of flow of the liquid, as explained below.
According to one variant (an alternative variant is described below), the pre-filter is arranged surrounding the pollutant filter in a space between the inner wall of the housing and the outer surface of the pollutant filter, and the central interior of the pollutant filter opens into the liquid drain. Thus, the liquid is first directed from the outside onto the jacket surface of the prefilter, where it washes around it. The particles are retained on the surface of the pre-filter. The then only polluted liquid flows through the prefilter and reaches the pollutant filter placed inside. There it penetrates through the surface of the same, and penetrates its walls, where it is freed from pollutants. The cleaned liquid collects in the central interior of the pollutant filter. This is connected to the liquid outlet, where the liquid can drain off.
The prefilter is preferably designed as a hollow cylinder that is open on one side and can be slipped over the pollutant filter designed as a cartridge. Accordingly, the pre-filter is designed as a “hat” which is set up to accommodate the pollutant filter in its interior. The prefilter advantageously “stops” automatically when it is placed on the particle filter when the two base or top surfaces meet.
It is clear that the filters are arranged in the housing in such a way that as little liquid as possible can get past the pre-filter to the pollutant filter. However, tests have shown that a small amount of liquid bypassing the prefilter is not a serious problem in most cases.
In cases in which the pollutant filter is designed as a hollow cylinder that is open on both sides (for example consisting of activated carbon), it must be ensured that, as far as possible, no liquid pre-cleaned by the pre-filter goes directly into the central interior of the pollutant filter, and thus without being freed from pollutants, to the liquid outlet can get. The pre-filtered liquid must also penetrate the pollutant filter.
In these cases, the pre-filter comprises a (essentially) “liquid-tight layer” on its closed side, which covers the corresponding side of the pollutant filter (base or top surface) as completely as possible.
According to one embodiment, the liquid-tight layer is present as a coating on the closed side of the prefilter.
According to a further embodiment, a (essentially) liquid-tight layer in the form of a sealing washer is provided, which is preferably arranged between the closed side of the prefilter and the (then open) end face of the pollutant filter facing it (an arrangement on the outside of the closed side is also possible possible). This sealing washer also ensures that no merely pre-filtered (particle-free) liquid can get directly into the central interior of the pollutant filter.
According to one embodiment, the closed side (top or base surface) of the prefilter is designed to be integrated with the jacket surface of the hollow cylinder, and then preferably consists of the same material. Such a prefilter can be easily produced in one step using suitable processes (e.g. pressing and sintering of polyethylene granulate) and provides the largest possible outer surface for holding back the particles.
If necessary, the "liquid-tight layer" described above can be applied in a further step (as a coating) or, for example, by changing the manufacturing parameters (e.g. increasing the pressing pressure in the desired area and thus strong compression of the material).
According to another embodiment, the closed side (top or base) of the prefilter is present as a separate component. This means that the closed side is not designed and manufactured to be integrated with the jacket surface. For example, the closed side can be made of plastic and be connected to the outer surface in a form-fitting, material-fitting or force-fitting manner. The closed side can in principle also be part of the inner wall of the housing (double function). In these cases, the prefilter has the shape of a hollow cylinder that is open on both sides. A separate component made from a liquid-impermeable material then also fulfills the function of the “liquid-tight layer” described above.
If the closed side is present as a separate component, it is particularly preferably designed as a disk which has an edge region which has two annular elevations protruding in the longitudinal axial direction of the housing. The inner diameter of the inner elevation corresponds to the outer diameter of the cartridge, so that it can rest against the inner elevation. The outer diameter of the inner elevation corresponds to the inner diameter of the prefilter, so that the inside of its lateral surface can rest against the inner elevation on the outside. The inner diameter of the outer elevation corresponds to the outer diameter of the prefilter, so that it is centered and held by the outer elevation. Finally, the outer diameter of the outer elevation corresponds to the inner diameter of the housing, so that the structure of prefilter and separate component can be inserted into the housing. At the same time, an interspace is provided both between the outside of the cartridge and the inside of the prefilter and between the outside of the prefilter and the inside wall of the housing. This applies in any case to the case of essentially flat outer surfaces of the cylinders. The width of the inner gap is determined by the difference between the diameters of the inner bump, and the width of the outer gap is determined by the difference between the diameters of the outer bump. It is clear that in this case the inner diameter of the prefilter must be greater than the outer diameter of the pollutant filter by the width of the inner space.
The advantage of this embodiment is the presence of said intermediate spaces, which lead to an improved exchange of liquid, in particular between the pre-filter and the pollutant filter. The pre-filter can also be precisely positioned in a simple manner, since the elevations help center it. Finally, the embodiment described is particularly suitable for very long and rather thin (e.g. 20 cm long and 2 cm thin), rod-shaped pre-filters, since otherwise these would be difficult to remove from the housing and there was a risk of breakage. In particular, the pollutant filter does not have to be removed here if the prefilter has to be replaced and the removal side of the housing is opposite the closed side of the prefilter.
According to one embodiment, the prefilter extends in the longitudinal axial direction over the entire height of the pollutant filter. This provides the maximum possible receiving area for particles.
In certain cases, however, it can be sufficient if this area is smaller. According to another embodiment, the prefilter extends in the longitudinal axial direction over only 1% to 70%, preferably 5% to 50%, and particularly preferably 7% to 25% of the height of the pollutant filter. The respectively closed sides of the cylinders are still positioned adjacent to one another or only slightly spaced from one another in the installed state.
The embodiment described is particularly advantageous in cases in which the liquid inlet is arranged in the area of the end face of the housing, since particles then also accumulate essentially on the corresponding closed side of the prefilter. The (short) jacket surface of the prefilter is then used for simple, centered positioning and, if necessary, for clamping or holding the prefilter on the pollutant filter and the prefilter in the housing.
The advantage of this embodiment lies in the reduction of the prefilter material and thus a cost saving, as well as the simpler manufacture of a shorter hollow cylinder.
According to another, alternative variant to the above, the prefilter is arranged in a central interior space of the pollutant filter, and it in turn has a central interior space into which the liquid inlet opens. Thus, the liquid is first directed from the inside into the interior of the prefilter, from where it flows through its outer surface before it reaches the pollutant filter after being cleaned of particles. It leaves this in the area beyond its outer surface, which is then connected to the liquid outlet.
With the same installation space as in the variant above, this embodiment is suitable for cases in which the focus is on pollutant cleaning, since the volume available for the pollutant filter is larger. In the above embodiments, this is reversed.
According to one embodiment of this variant, the prefilter is designed as a rod-shaped or hollow cylinder open on one side and can be plugged into the central interior of the pollutant filter. Such a geometry is particularly easy to produce. Incidentally, this also applies to the case of the internal pollutant filter.
As already mentioned above, the viewing window on the pre-filter is also part of the invention. According to one embodiment, this is designed as a circular disk or, according to another embodiment, as an annular viewing window. The ring-shaped window has the advantage that the central area is available for the inflow or outflow of liquid. According to another embodiment, the viewing window is arranged eccentrically to the longitudinal axis of the cylindrical housing. An arrangement of the viewing window in the base or top surface of the cylindrical housing is preferred in all cases. However, it is also possible to provide the viewing window along the jacket surface so that different locations on the jacket surface of the prefilter can be seen. This makes it easy to check whether the pre-filter is loaded evenly or unevenly with particles.
The prefilter particularly preferably has a color change with increasing use. This means that by comparing the respective color of the prefilter with the color of a fresh or used prefilter, the condition of the prefilter can be determined in a particularly simple manner and without further aids and its remaining service life can be estimated. In the simplest case, the prefilter is made of a material, for example white, and the particles have a different color, for example yellow or brown. This is especially the case when cleaning water from older or poorly maintained water pipes. The darker the color of the pre-filter, the more particles there are on its outer surface, i.e. the thicker the sediment layer and the closer the end of its service life, because too thick a sediment layer clogs the pores so that the flow rate drops too much. However, it is also possible to provide special components based on chemical reactions on the outside of the prefilter, which react with the particles and are colored accordingly. It is also possible to select the filter material dark, so that layers of essentially light-colored suspended matter such as lime flakes can be better recognized.
The invention also extends to a prefilter for a filter system as described above. The advantages of such a filter have already been discussed in detail, which is why reference can be made to the explanations given above. The prefilter can accordingly have the shapes and features described above so that it can be installed in a corresponding filter system. It is important that the pre-filter can actually be exchanged so that it can be exchanged for a fresh pre-filter or a pre-filter with different properties (e.g. different pore size) if necessary.
