Description
The present invention relates to a metallized plastic component comprising a plastic base body made of at least one translucent plastic. Furthermore, the plastic component comprises a metal coating applied to a first side of the plastic base body, a brush structure formed on the first side of the plastic base body, which is composed of a plurality of first structural elements forming the brush structure, the brush structure being viewed from an outer side of the metallized Plastic component is optically perceptible, and a translucent structure which is composed of a plurality of the translucent structure forming second structural elements, wherein the translucent structure are introduced into the metal coating. The plastic component can, for example, be made entirely of a plastic that can be electroplated (in this case, those areas in which no metal coating is desired must be masked or treated accordingly so that no metal is deposited in such places. Alternatively, the plastic component can also be act as a 2K component in which one component section (e.g. in the area of a front side can be electroplated, while another component section (e.g. the rear) cannot be electroplated, but is translucent. Such 2K components can be manufactured from two different plastic components using suitable injection molding processes. The present invention thus relates to 1K components to the same extent as 2K components.
The metallized plastic component according to the invention can be manufactured using a manufacturing method also described below.
It is known from the prior art to metallize the surfaces of plastic components in order to give them an attractive visual appearance. As a result, a decorative effect can be created, which can, for example, be incorporated into an overall design concept of an object superordinate to the metallized plastic component. For example, a metallized plastic component can be part of a motor vehicle. Accordingly, the plastic component can be part of a design concept assigned to the vehicle. Such plastic components can e.g. for operating elements in motor vehicles such as handles, buttons, buttons and gear knobs, but also for decorative strips, loudspeakers, etc. Metallized plastic components are also used in household and sanitary appliances.
There are essentially two methods used to produce metallized plastic elements. These are based either on the metallization of a component made from a plastic by means of the PVD process (PVD - physical vapor deposition), or on the galvanization of an element made of plastic by means of electrochemical processes. In principle, both processes allow durable metal coatings to be applied to components made of plastic, although the processes have different advantages and disadvantages. For example, it is problematic to metallize control elements by means of the PVD process in such a way that the metal layer deposited on the plastic component even without an additional protective layer, e.g. from a transparent protective varnish has adequate abrasion resistance and corrosion resistance. Also, plastic components metallized by means of the PVD process do not have the often desired "cold touch" due to the small thickness of the applied metal layers, i.e. the feel of the metallized plastic component does not correspond to that of a metal part. The electroplating of plastic components has therefore proven to be more advantageous, particularly in the area of control elements in motor vehicles.
For optical and aesthetic reasons, it is also often desirable to provide the surfaces of decorative and control elements (as mentioned, for example, for use in motor vehicles, in the household or sanitary area) with a so-called brush look or brush structure. It is generally known to form such brush structures on real metals such as aluminum or stainless steel. The machined metals (or metal sheets) can then be brought into the desired shape, for example by means of a stamping or forming process. Equally, however, the formation of the shape can also take place before the formation of the brush structure on the metal surface. The molded components provided with the brush structure can then, for example, be connected to a carrier component, that is to say the operating element or the decorative element, by gluing, back-molding, clamping or other joining methods. Such a production method for decorative or operating elements provided with brush structures is, however, associated with relatively high costs and a relatively high level of procedural complexity. In order to circumvent this, however, it is known not to form the mentioned brush structures directly on the metal surface, but to imitate them in some other way.
Accordingly, the present invention is based on the object of providing a metallized plastic component which can be produced inexpensively and quickly and which produces an optical effect based on a brush structure and a structure that can be illuminated.
Vorteilhafte Weiterbildungen des Kunststoffbauteils ergeben sich aus den Unteransprüchen 2 - 20.According to the invention, this object is achieved by a metallized plastic component according to
- a) a plastic base body made of at least one translucent plastic,
- b) a metal coating applied to a first side of the plastic base body,
- c) a brush structure formed on the first side of the plastic base body, which is composed of a multiplicity of first structural elements forming the brush structure, the brush structure being visually perceptible from an outer side of the metallized plastic component,
- d) a translucent structure which is composed of a plurality of second structural elements forming the translucent structure, the translucent structure being incorporated into the metal coating,
With such an embodiment, a visually perceptible common optical effect can be generated by the first and second structural elements. The structural elements interact directly with regard to the named morphological features. Due to the combined visual perceptibility of the brush structure and the translucent structure of the metallized plastic component, an optically (and possibly haptically) perceptible structural burst effect with an optically perceptible light effect (the translucent structures can be shone through, for example by the light of an LED) combined to create a common visual effect. The formation of the brush structure on the plastic base body as such avoids the costly introduction of such a structure into the metal coating, but at the same time the optical perceptibility of the brush structure from an outer side of the metallized plastic component is guaranteed. Due to the formation of the brush structure directly in the plastic base body, the metal coating applied thereon also takes on the structure mentioned or reproduces it visually on the outside. At the same time, however, such a structure imitation avoids the costly creation of structuring of the metal surface in order to form a brush structure.
The shape, dimensions, arrangement or further parameters of the first and second structural elements can in particular be selected or set to the effect that they are defined Make the brush structure a transparency is guaranteed. The first and second structural elements are therefore adapted to one another with regard to at least one morphological feature. Without further ado, however, the adaptation can also take place in relation to several morphological features. In this sense, however, “adaptation” is by no means to be understood as meaning that the first and second structural elements assume the same value with regard to a specific morphological feature (eg shape, dimensions, size, etc.). Rather, the morphological features of the first and second structural elements are “adapted” in such a way that a common optical effect is generated, that is, both an illumination and the perception of the brush structure is made possible. The “adaptation” can be, for example, to make the second structural elements smaller than the first structural elements in terms of their width or their diameter.
The first structural elements and the second structural elements that interact optically with the first structural elements can either be provided only in a partial area of the metallized plastic component, or the metallized plastic component can be completely provided with a brushed structure or translucent structure with respect to a viewing side.
The second structural elements belonging to the transilluminatable structure can be arranged in different patterns. These can be, for example, ordered or disordered patterns - that is, arrangements of structural elements. However, ordered patterns of the second structural elements are preferably provided, wherein the arrangement of the structural elements can have a predetermined periodicity, for example. The periodicity of the second structural elements can be adapted to a periodicity of the first structural elements. However, the period of the second structural elements can be longer or shorter than the period related to the arrangement of the first structural elements. The periodicities or periods mentioned are primarily to be understood as the distances between the structural elements of the same type. The homogeneity of the visual appearance on one side of the metallized plastic component can be influenced by selecting the distances between the respective structural elements of the same type or by selecting the respective shape and size of the respective structural elements. By varying the aforementioned parameters, the brush structure in combination with the translucent structure providing the light effects can produce a homogeneous or deliberately inhomogeneous optical effect on a visible surface of the plastic component.
The claim according to which the plastic base body is made of “at least” one translucent plastic is to be understood to mean that the plastic base body can be both a 1K component and a 2K component. The plastic body can also be made from a single type of plastic in sub-areas and from several plastics in other sub-areas. If several plastics are provided, it can be advantageous that all of the plastics processed are translucent. “Translucent” is to be understood as an optical transparency for light in the VIS wavelength range. Alternatively, the "light permeability" of the plastic used can also be adapted to other wavelengths (e.g. IR). A 2K component can be formed, for example, by overmolding or backmolding a first plastic part body with a second plastic. Such a component can also be produced using 3D printing. The at least one plastic used to manufacture the plastic base body can be, for example, a single-type plastic, but also a plastic mixture. The respective plastic or the plastic mixture can be based on one or more polymers or copolymers.
As already mentioned, a metal coating can be applied to a first side of the plastic base body. The metal coating can be constructed from one or more metal layers, but in particular from at least a first and a second metal layer. Intermediate layers can be provided between the first and second metal layers. Further statements on the structure of the metal coating are described in the context of the description of the method according to the invention for producing a metallized plastic component.
The metallization of the plastic base body can - as already mentioned in the introduction - take place in various ways. For example, PVD processes or the electroplating process can be used to form the metal coating on the plastic base body. It is also possible for only one of the metal layers to be deposited on the plastic base body or a further metal layer or intermediate layer by means of an electroplating process. In the case of a galvano-based deposition of a metal layer on the plastic base body, this is at least partially made of a plastic that can be galvanized. For example, polyamide, ABS or ABS / polycarbonate blends can be used as plastics that can be galvanized. The thickness of the metal coating can be in the nanometer range, for example.
As already mentioned above, the invention provides that the translucent structure composed of a plurality of the translucent structure forming second structural elements. The translucent structure (ie the second structural elements) are incorporated into the metal coating. If a light source is arranged on the side of the plastic base body opposite the metal coating (the same applies to light rays otherwise incident on this side), the incident light can pass through the translucent areas of the plastic base body and through the translucent structure of the metal coating and is from one viewing side (i.e. the metallized side of the plastic base body) is visually perceptible. Depending on the design or pattern of the transilluminatable structure, certain light patterns can be optically perceived on the metallized side of the plastic component. Equally, however, the brush structure on the metallized side of the plastic component is also visually perceptible.
In principle, it is also conceivable to introduce the translucent structure or the second structural elements into the latter after the metal coating has been applied to the plastic base body (for example by way of mechanical ablation or laser processing in which the metal coating is in those areas where the second Structural elements are to be arranged is removed), but preference is given to forming the transilluminatable structure or the second structural elements during the (galvanic production) of the metal layer. This can be done, for example, by masking certain areas and / or laser processing. However, it is particularly preferred to design the transilluminable structure by means of laser processing. This will be described in more detail in the context of the description of the method according to the invention.
Further advantageous configurations of the metallized plastic component proposed by the invention are specified in the subclaims and in the following description of these and other advantageous configurations.
According to a first particularly advantageous embodiment of the invention, it can be provided that the brush structure is a structure of the plastic base body formed during the injection molding of the plastic base body. As already mentioned above, the tool forming the cavity of an injection molding tool or an associated casting mold can be provided with a mold negative of the brush structure to be formed. When the molten plastic is injected into the cavity, the plastic compound assumes a corresponding shape in the area of the area provided with the negative shape, namely the brush structure. When the plastic hardens, the plastic solidifies with the formation of the brush structure. The casting mold provided with the negative shape can for example be made of metal (e.g. steel) and manufactured by casting. In principle, the casting mold can also be made of plastic, as long as the melting temperature of the plastic used for the casting mold is above the working temperature of the injection molding tool. If the mold is made of plastic, it can also be manufactured using injection molding or 3D printing. It is also conceivable to introduce the mold negative into the casting mold by means of mechanical processing (regardless of whether it is made of metal or plastic). The negative mold can also be provided by an insert for the casting mold, which is inserted into the cavity during injection molding. The insert can be made of plastic (e.g. Teflon) or metal, for example.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, it can be provided that the brush structure is formed from grooves and structural regions adjoining the grooves and raised in relation to the groove depth, the grooves and / or the raised structural regions providing the first structural elements. The depth of the groove or the extent of the raised areas can be flexibly adjusted by the selection and dimensioning of the negative mold for the injection molding tool or the cavity there. The groove depth can also vary, for example it can increase or decrease incrementally along one direction. The groove depth can also be incremented on the basis of another symmetry, for example increasing or decreasing along one direction, passing through a plateau with a constant groove depth and increasing or decreasing again. The grooves and the raised areas adjoining them can be arranged parallel or approximately parallel. The grooves or the raised areas can have a certain length along a main direction of extent of the first structural elements. A raised area can adjoin a groove along the main direction of extent (as well as transversely to the main direction of extent).
According to a further embodiment of the invention it can be provided that the first structural elements are arranged in an ordered or disordered pattern. An ordered pattern can mean that the first structural elements (that is to say the grooves and raised areas) are arranged completely or almost parallel and extend continuously over the entire surface of the first side of the plastic base body. This results in a homogeneous or ordered pattern or a repetitive arrangement of grooves and raised areas. However, it can also be provided that the first structural elements do not extend completely parallel to one another and are present in a certain disorder (brush structures generally do not comprise a completely parallel arrangement of the associated structural elements). The structural elements also do not have to extend completely or continuously along their main direction of extent over the first side of the plastic base body. Furthermore, an ordered pattern can also be provided by any other arrangements of the first structural elements, for example via a checkerboard-like or cross-over arrangement of the first structural elements. The latter arrangement can be designed, for example, in the sense of brush structures perpendicular to one another. In this case, the first structural elements of a first brush structure are perpendicular to the first structural elements of a second brush structure. There can also be another angle between the structural elements of two such brush structures. The structural elements of the first brush structure and the second brush structure can run diagonally to one another, for example.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, it can be provided that the first structural elements are aligned essentially parallel to one another and extend along a brushing direction. “Essentially” parallel means, in particular, production-related tolerances that can lead to deviations from a completely parallel arrangement of the structural elements. With a parallel arrangement of the structural elements, an optically homogeneous brush effect with an optically homogeneous structure is created.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, it can be provided that the first structural elements are linear. A line-like configuration is to be understood as meaning that the length along each structural element along a main direction of extent is greater than its width transversely to the main direction of extent. In such a configuration, both the grooves and the raised areas adjoining them are designed in a line-like manner.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, it can be provided that the morphological feature of the first structural elements relates to the groove width or line width or the alignment of the first structural elements. As already mentioned, the second structural elements are adapted in a morphological feature to a morphological feature of the first structural elements, that is to say to the groove width or line width. The size of the second structural elements can therefore be adapted to the groove width or line width of the first structural elements. In this sense, “adaptation” does not necessarily mean that the second structural elements must have the same size as the width of the grooves or lines. These can easily be smaller or larger than the first structural elements. In this, “adaptation” can mean that they are many times larger or smaller than the first structural elements (based on the groove width or line width). The same applies to the length expansion of the structural elements. Nevertheless, there is an adaptation to a size parameter of the first structural elements. Orientation as a morphological feature means the direction of extension of the first structural elements on the first side of the plastic base body. In this respect too, a morphological feature of the second structural elements (in particular the alignment relative to the alignment of the first structural elements) can be “adapted”. Here, the term “adaptation” of the morphological features means, in particular, a coordination of the orientation angles of the main directions of extension on which the first and second structural elements are based, but not that the first and second structural elements must necessarily have the same orientation.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, it can be provided that the second structural elements are linear. The second structural elements can therefore also have a larger length dimension than width dimension. In this regard, reference is made to the preceding statements on the first structural elements. However, it should be emphasized that the second structural elements can have a shorter length than the first structural elements.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, it can be provided that the morphological feature of the second structural elements relates to the width or orientation of the second structural elements. As already mentioned, the width of the second (for example, linearly formed) structural elements can be many times smaller or greater than the groove width or line width of the first structural elements. Such an adaptation can equally relate to the length of the second structural elements.
According to the preceding statements, it can be provided that the width of the second structure elements is adapted to the groove width or line width of the first structure elements in such a way that they have a smaller, greater or the same width compared to the groove width or line width. With a smaller width of the (for example linearly formed) second structural elements in relation to the width of the first structural elements, the translucent structure appears to be embedded in the brush structure, which is an appealing visual effect. Due to the large number of adaptation options with regard to the morphological features of the first and second structural elements, a flexible design of the metallized plastic component (eg according to customer requirements) is made possible.
According to a further embodiment of the invention it can be provided that the alignment of the second structural elements is adapted to the alignment of the first structural elements so that the second structural elements are parallel or transversely, i.e. at an angle to the first structural elements. In this case, the alignment of the first and second structural elements represents the morphological feature. In this regard, too, appealing optical effects can be generated (in particular when the first and second structural elements are designed in a linear manner).
According to a further embodiment of the invention, it can be provided that the second structural elements are designed in the form of points, the points having a round or polygonal shape. In the case of a point-like design, the structural elements can form a point grid or grid. Point-like configuration means that the second structural elements implemented as “dots” have a smaller size, at least with regard to the length or width dimension of the first structural elements.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, it can be provided that the morphological feature of the second structural elements relates to the diameter or a point spacing between the second structural elements, which are embodied in point-like fashion. An optical embedding effect can be generated via the diameter of the point-like second structural elements (if this is smaller than the length and / or width of the first structural elements). A visually appealing effect can also be generated in relation to the first structural elements via the point spacings between the points. As a result, a resulting point grid or point pattern can be adapted as desired to the optical requirements. If the point spacing is chosen to be very small, then (with the appropriate dimensioning of the point diameter), for example, several transilluminated points or locations can be introduced into a single first structural element of the brush structure.
According to a further embodiment of the invention it can be provided that the diameter of the second structure elements is adapted to the groove width or line width of the first structure elements in such a way that they have a smaller, greater or equal diameter than the groove width or line width. As a result, either a light embedding effect can be generated in the brush structure, or an inverse embedding effect (in this case the first structural elements belonging to the brush structure act at least partially as being embedded in the second structural elements). If the diameter corresponds to the width of the groove or the line width, a more homogeneous optical effect is produced.
According to a further embodiment of the invention it can be provided that the point spacing of the second structure elements is adapted to the groove width or line width of the first structure elements in such a way that they have a point spacing that is smaller, greater or the same compared to the groove width or line width. As already mentioned, many different optical light effects can be generated via the point spacing. For example, a distance variation in this regard can make a point grid appear compressed, provided that the point distances are smaller along one grid direction than along another grid direction. A stretched or expanded grid can also be produced in this way.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, it can be provided that the point spacing is a multiple of the groove width or line width. The point spacing can vary along and across the extension direction of the first structural elements (optical compression effect, optical expansion effect).
According to a further embodiment of the invention, it can be provided that the plastic base body is made of plastic that can be electroplated, at least in the area of its first side. As already explained above, this is a decisive advantage for the production of the metallized plastic component. The plastic base body can then be subjected directly to an electroplating process for depositing the metal coating. In this way, metallized plastic components can be manufactured inexpensively and in large numbers. This is particularly advantageous when such components are mass-produced.
Details dazu seien an späterer Stelle ausgeführt.According to a further embodiment of the invention it can be provided that the metal coating comprises at least a first and a second metal layer. The metal layers can consist of different metals or metal alloys. Details will be given later.
According to a further embodiment of the invention, it can be provided that the second structural elements are inserted into the Metal coating, in particular in the first metal layer, are introduced. Ablating laser processing is advantageous for the formation of the second structural elements, since in this way the most varied shapes of structural elements can be formed with high precision and relatively high processing speed. In particular, laser processing devices based on pulsed lasers can be used for this purpose. However, continuous wave lasers can in principle also be used for ablating laser processing. Depending on the shape and size of the second structural elements, the laser processing can be carried out in the sense of laser drilling or ablating laser writing. The latter variant is particularly suitable for the formation of linear structural elements. A laser spot is guided over the workpiece, i.e. the metal layer, along a specified path.
According to a further embodiment of the invention it can be provided that the common optical effect relates to an interaction of the brush structure and the transilluminable structure. By adapting the pattern on which the brush structure and the translucent structure are based, a wide variety of optical effects can be generated, which can be designed flexibly depending on customer requirements.
The metallized plastic component described can be produced by the method described below.
Das Herstellungsverfahren umfasst zumindest die nachfolgend beschriebenen Verfahrensschritte a. bis d.As already mentioned, the metallized plastic component comprises a plastic base body, a metal coating made of at least a first and second metal layer applied to a first side of the plastic base body, a brush structure formed on the first side of the plastic base body and a translucent structure introduced into the metal coating Has structure. The manufacturing process comprises at least the process steps a described below. to d.
In a first process step a. the plastic base body is produced in an injection molding process with the formation of the brush structure. The brush structure is formed - as already described above - directly during injection molding, in that a texture corresponding to the brush structure is specified in the cavity of the injection molding tool.
In a process step b. an electrically conductive first metal layer is deposited chemically or physically on the plastic base body, in particular on a first side of the plastic base body.
In a subsequent process step c. the translucent structure is introduced into the first metal layer by means of ablating laser processing.
Then we in a process step d. at least one second metal layer is electrochemically deposited on the first metal layer.
With the method described, the translucent structure (or the second structural elements) is thus not lasered into the completely deposited metal coating, but into the first metal layer, which is initially produced for electroplating the plastic base body on it. During the subsequent electrochemical deposition of the second metal layer, the lasered structural elements are not coated with this second metal layer, so that corresponding structures also result in the resulting metal layer, through which light can penetrate. The light effects generated in this way can be optically perceived from a viewing side of the metallized plastic component directed towards the surface of the metal coating.
According to a further embodiment of the method, it can be provided that the brush structure is defined by the surface properties of a casting cavity used in injection molding and is formed during injection molding, the casting cavity forming a negative shape for the brush structure. In this regard, reference is made to the preceding statements.
According to a further embodiment of the method, a method step preceding method step a) can be provided in which an injection molding tool is formed to provide the casting cavity, taking into account the negative shape of the brush structure, for example by way of a casting process or 3D printing. As also already described above, the casting cavity can be formed by casting molds made of metal or plastic. During the production of the casting molds, the mold negative or a structuring corresponding to the brush structure can be introduced into the casting mold. However, this can also be done by mechanical processing. Furthermore, the negative mold can be provided by an insert for the casting cavity of the injection molding tool.
According to a further embodiment of the method, it can be provided that those second structural elements belonging to the transilluminable structure are lasered sequentially into the first metal layer with a mono-spot laser. The laser spot is initially used to form a respective second structural element relative to that with the The plastic base body provided with the first metal layer is positioned and then moved relative to the base body in accordance with the shape to be formed, this applies in particular to linearly configured second structural elements. In the case of a point-like design of the second structural elements, it may be sufficient (depending on the shape and size of the points and the laser spots provided) to position the laser spot at one point and to apply laser pulses to carry out a laser drilling. Depending on the size and shape of a point-like structural element, however, it may also be necessary here to move the laser spot relative to the first metal layer of the plastic base body. In addition, the relative movement can also be implemented by shifting the plastic base body in relation to a fixed laser spot.
According to a further embodiment of the method, it can be provided that those second structural elements belonging to the translucent structure are lasered in parallel into the first metal layer using a multi-spot laser. Such a parallelization of the laser processing can further increase the processing speed.
Regardless of whether a monospot laser or a multispot laser is used, it can be provided that the second structural elements are generated by several lines lasered close to one another.
According to a further embodiment of the method, it can be provided that the transilluminable structure is formed automatically on the basis of a predeterminable data record by a laser processing device having the mono-spot laser or multi-spot laser. Such a data record can contain the coordinates of the pattern on which the translucent structure is based in relation to the plastic base body or the metal coating (first metal layer). The dataset can be created based on customer requests.
According to a further embodiment of the method, it can be provided that the brush structure is defined by the surface properties of a casting cavity used in injection molding and is formed during injection molding, the casting cavity forming a negative shape for the brush structure. In this regard, reference is made to the statements above.
