Abstract
Description
The The present invention relates to a laser welding apparatus having one of a high power laser produced laser beam with high beam quality and with a focusing the laser beam on the processing zone of a workpiece Optics whose focal length is at least 200mm.
With high-power lasers of high beam quality (CO 2 , disc, bar and fiber lasers), the power densities required for deep welding are also achieved with large focal lengths (> 200 mm), so that welding processes with a long working distance ("remote welding") can be performed. In such welding processes, which were carried out directly at the processing site without a process gas (working gas), the following effect was observed: The welding results show a very large variation of the welding depth or the root formation during through-welding. This fluctuation ranges from non-penetration with only slightly trained tempering colors on the underside of the sheet metal to full penetration. These weld variations have been observed in solid state laser welding only with the use of the disk laser when using long focal length focusing optics. The weld seam fluctuations occur, in particular with F numbers (F number = focal length of the focusing lens / beam diameter on the focusing lens) greater than 8.
In contrast, is It is the object of the present invention, a laser welding device of the type mentioned in such a way that the Welding variations described above can be prevented.
These The object is achieved by a Limiting device solved, the while welding resulting mixture of welding gases (Welding fumes, Metal vapor) and warm ambient air within the focused Laser beam on a workpiece-near Limited area.
According to the invention is recognized been that emerges from the machining zone during laser welding Welding fumes, driven by also exiting metal vapor, in the direction of incident laser beam is moved and heated the ambient air. Of the incident laser beam is generated by this mixture of welding gases and warm ambient air in its intensity and in its beam geometry changed adversely. The influence of welding smoke or metal vapor on the laser beam depends on the power density on the component, the focusing angle of the laser beam and the focal length from the focusing lens. When laser welding with focusing lenses lesser Focal length is not the beam path of the laser beam to the workpiece as long as that in conventional laser welding with small working distance of the welding nozzle to the workpiece a noticeable and the process disturbing influence the jet properties can occur. Moreover, in the past significantly lower beam quality the processing laser the beam diameter on the focusing lens and the focusing angle of the beam is greater so that the beam is above of the workpiece a shorter one Having a high power density zone.
Of the Influence of welding smoke and metal vapor is dependent from the rate of production, the welding speed, the degree the Durchschweißung the molten bath volume, the material to be welded and the vapor concentration in the entire processing space. To get longer when welding with focusing optics Focal length uniform welds with uniform root education to receive by the welding smoke and metal vapor induced beam changes are prevented.
According to the invention Area of the focused laser beam below the optics one or more gas streams (preferably air) or by a suction largely free from the mixture of welding gases and kept warm ambient air. With a suitable gas nozzle is a gas flow with a relatively low volume flow in the direction of the focused Laser beam directed to the processing or joining zone, the laser beam path penetrates. The gas flow thus takes place from above onto the workpiece. The gas nozzle can be in the form of a coaxial nozzle or even several individual nozzles be arranged around the laser beam around. Task of the gas flow it is not, a protective gas effect on the component against To achieve oxidation, but the radiation space of the incident Laser light of welding gases and warmer Air as possible kept clear.
In conventional welding with CO 2 lasers with high power densities, weld variations can also occur. This effect is attributed to the shielding of the laser radiation by the laser-induced metal vapor plasma ("laser plasma") in the vapor channel of the weld. A process gas (working gas) directly at the processing zone is required to eliminate the shielding effect of the "laser plasma". Even with remote welding with CO 2 lasers, at high power densities, process gas is required at the welding point (ie directly at the component), which is usually supplied via the component mounting. In addition, the process gas prevents the build-up of welding fumes, so that the problem described above can arise only if - at low power density - welding without process gas. For the wavelength of solid state la If, for example, a Nd: YAG laser, the metal vapor plasma is transparent, so that in conventional welding with Nd: YAG lasers no process gas is necessary.
