Abstract
Description
Device for the automatic and continuous determination of the dynamic modulus of a high polymer The invention relates to an apparatus for the determination of the dynamic modulus of high polymers and the like.
No. 3,132,509 already discloses a method for determining of the dynamic modulus of high polymers. The main feature of this well-known Method consists in making a long and thin one made of a high polymer Sample is carried between its two ends in such a way, Gr- fS an oscillation wave can be directed from one end to the other end. It made Phase measurements of the vibration wave are made at two separate points on the sample by using two tension or strain gauges. The phase difference of the oscillation wave is between the two points certainly. To determine the phase difference in this way, output voltages of the two tension or strain gauges are amplified, so that their amplitudes are equal to each other. Therefore, appropriate settings of the gains the amplifier is required and these settings require manual manipulation. For these reasons, the dynamic module cannot automatically and can be determined continuously. In other words, this means that through the method described in said US Pat. No. 3,132,509 involves a measurement a change of a dynamic module as indicated by a successive one Change in temperature is not carried out automatically and continuously can be.
The invention is now based on the object of showing a way like a change in one caused by successive changes in temperature dynamic modulus of a high polymer recorded using an X-Y chart recorder can be.
The object indicated above is achieved with the aid of a device for the automatic and continuous determination of the dynamic modulus of a high polymer under Use of a sample oven, the internal temperature of which can be changed and in which the two ends of a sample of the high polymer are secured between two clamps according to the invention in that a differential transformer is connected to one of the two terminals is connected that connected to the differential transformer a vibrating device is that a voltage measuring device is connected to the other terminal, that a servomotor is connected to the voltage measuring device that between the voltage measuring device and a voltage regulator is connected to the servomotor, which applies a voltage to the sample able to exercise, which is proportional to the oscillation voltage, that a phase difference detector between the output of the differential transformer and the voltage measuring device is connected that a cosine potentiometer to the output of the phase difference detector is connected that between the output of the differential transformer and the output of the voltage measuring device, a divider device is connected, which the output voltage of the voltmeter by the output voltage of the differential transformer divides that between the output of the cosine potentiometer and the output of the Part of the device is connected to a multiplier, which controls the output voltage of the cosine potentiometer multiplied by the output voltage of the divider, that a logarithmic potentiometer at the output of the multiplier is connected, which is the output voltage supplied by the multiplier to compress logarithmically allowed, and that at the output of the phase difference detector and an X-Y curve recorder connected to the output of the multiplier which is a change in the dynamic modulus of the high polymer as a function of record the change in the temperature of the sample oven on a recording paper permitted.
The invention brings over that of the above-mentioned US patent known method has the advantage that a sample is exposed to a voltage, which is proportional to the vibration expansion or stress. That way is relaxation of the sample when it is elongated as a result of an increase in temperature avoided. Furthermore, no manual adjustment is required to adjust the gains of the two amplifiers to match each other. In the present case happens with such an alignment / circuit arrangement to which a phase difference detector from Schmitt trigger circuits, NOR gates and an AND gate. In the end becomes a real number in a complex number-one on a recording paper dynamic module recorded. This number is compressed logarithmically; she would otherwise be a multi-digit number.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to drawings.

Fig. 2 shows the course of signals in a signal diagram, on hand which the operation of a phase difference detector provided in the device according to the invention will be explained.
According to FIG. 1, a sample 1 made of a high polymer is between two Klemm.en 4 and 5 arranged in a sample furnace 3. The internal temperature of the Oven 3 can be increased with the aid of a programming device 2. The connector 4 is fixed via a differential transformer 6 with a rocker in the 7 direction tied together. This vibrating device 7 causes the sample 1 to vibrate. The terminal 5 is via a tension or strain gauge 8 with a servo motor 9 firmly connected. The servomotor 9 serves to relax the sample 1 as caused by increasing the internal temperature of the furnace 3. The servo motor 9 is automatically controlled by a voltage regulating device 10. If the temperature in the sample furnace 3 is increased, the sample 1 becomes soft. In order to the sample length increases, with the result that the sample 1 is tension-free and slack will. This slackening of the sample 1 prevents a transmission of the by the vibration device 7 shown oscillation voltage on the voltmeter 8. For proper operation of the voltmeter 8, it is therefore necessary, the terminal 5 in a suitable Direction to move, in such a way that a suitable tension on the sample 1 is exercised and thus the tensionlessness of the sample 1 disappears. These Movement of the clamp 5 in the correct direction is effected by the servomotor 9, namely depending on the operation of the voltage regulation: eleinricht- 10. The two output voltages from the differential transformer 6 and from the voltmeter 8 are a phase difference detector 13 supplied after it is sufficient in amplitude by means of the amplifiers 11 and 12 have been tied to the phase difference detector 1 control r'-? - t en. Of the Phase difference detector 13 contains Schmitt trigger circuits, NOR elements and an AND element.
On the basis of the signal sequences shown in Fig. 2 is now the Operation of the phase difference detector 13 will be explained. With aO is a Signal sequence denotes as it is achieved by amplifying the output voltage of the differential transformer 6 is delivered. A signal sequence is designated by b as it is produced by amplification the output voltage of the voltmeter 8 is supplied. Will the two signal sequences aO and bo are fed to the Schmitt trigger circuits and the level is limited at a level as low as possible, square waves become a1 and .b1 educated.
These square waves a1 and b become a NOR gate and an AND gate is supplied, square waves c1 and d1 are generated. These square wave signals c1 and d1 are then fed to a further NOR gate to generate pulse signals e1 e1. ... to create. By determining the mean value of the pulse widths of the pulse signals e1, e'1 .... can determine the phase difference between the signal sequences aO and bo will. So by this method, the phase difference can be made without any connection of the signal sequences aO and b can be determined with the voltage levels. A Schmitt trigger - responds to zero crossings - of a signal sequence; but it can also be operated like that that it triggers the signals following aO and bo at a constant level, which is very low. As a result, the obtained square waves a1 and b1 can be used in practice. The riggering mode of the Schmitt trigger is thus to be regarded as independent of the voltage level of the signal sequences aO and bo.
The output voltages supplied by the differential transformer 6 and the voltage knife 8 and amplified with the aid of the amplifier with the aid of the amplifiers 11 and 12 are rectified with the aid of rectifiers 14 and 15. These rectified output voltages are fed to a divider or reducer 16, the output voltage of the rectifier 15 being divided by the output voltage of the rectifier 14 in such a way that an output voltage is output which is proportional to the dynamic module of the sample 1 according to the following expression: Herein, E 'and E "mean a real number and an imaginary number in a complex number of the dynamic modulus.
The output voltage proportional to the phase difference # determined by the phase difference detector 13 is supplied to a cosine potentiometer 17, thereby producing an output voltage proportional to the cosine &. This output voltage, which is proportional to the cosine S, and that of the dynamic module A proportional output voltage determined by the divider 16 is fed to a multiplier 18. In this multiplier 18, the two output voltages are multiplied with one another in such a way that a voltage is output which is proportional to the value E 'and which satisfies the following expression.
