Description
The The present invention relates to a method for leak detection in over- or Negative pressure devices by means of measurements of gas component changes, in particular by means of a sensor for detecting the gas partial pressure, wherein the sensor is a miniaturized executed and integrated in a separate housing Oxygen sensor is.
It is known that no Vacuum apparatus or plant is absolutely vacuum-tight. she needs in principle, not to be, because it only matters that the Leak rate is correspondingly low and so on the required working pressure, Gas budget and final pressure in the vacuum tank remains without influence. It follows that the Demands regarding the tightness of an apparatus the more stringent become, the lower the pressure demanded is (magazine "bases of vacuum technology, calculations and tables "of Leybold AG, vintage 09/97, cat.-no. 1 9989, pp. 63-68).
It is still known that despite careful exam the individual components even after assembly in the apparatus Leaks may be present it may be that seals sit badly or sealing surfaces are damaged. The for testing The process and equipment used in an apparatus depend on the size of the leaks or from the desired tightness.
It is also known that for leak testing special Leak detectors are in use. These are for example in vacuum systems the high-frequency vacuum tester, the halogen leak detector and the helium leak detector.
Of the High-frequency vacuum tester consists of a hand-held device with brush-shaped HF electrode and a power supply. For leak detection, the areas suspected of being leaks with the electrode the high-frequency vacuum tester sampled. In the presence of a leak, a spark strikes to the leak (eg pore) over, where there is a bright discharge lane. disadvantage of this method are that they only for Glass or plastic equipment can be used that small Pores are increased by sparking can, and that thin spots in the apparatus by the spray discharge of the vacuum tester be penetrated. Originally Dense equipment will leak in this way.
When halogen leak detector of the effect is utilized primarily in that chlorine-containing gaseous compounds (eg. As Freon ®, Freon ® or Kaltron ®), the emission of alkali metal ions from a hot platinum surface influence (Langmuir-Taylor effect). Accordingly, if such a gas comes into contact with a platinum anode heated to about 800 ° C., a positive ion current flows to the opposite cold electrode. A major disadvantage of this method is that the gases used for leak detection are harmful to the environment and relatively expensive.
The Helium leak detector uses helium as a detection gas, which from the outside on a to be examined Vacuum recipient sprayed becomes. The penetrating through an existing leak test gas is detected by means of a mass spectrometer. Disadvantage of this Procedure is in addition to the high purchase price of the relatively complex and bulky construction.

A further advantageous embodiment of the invention is in the claims 9 and 10 given. The development according to these claims makes it possible the sensor system because of its functional properties both at high temperatures as well as in chemically aggressive environmental conditions use.
Funktionsweisefunctionality
At the Example of a solid state electrolyte based oxygen sensor is the Functioning of the invented leak detector will be explained.
One potential Principle is based on the fact that oxygen sensors on a solid electrolyte basis on the one hand measure the oxygen partial pressure and on the other hand a so high surface temperature have that combustible Test gases (For example, isopropanol) immediately with the oxygen in the environment of Sensor element react, d. H. lower the oxygen partial pressure. If the sensor element integrated in a vacuum recipient and the chamber from the outside with a combustible test gas sprayed, will be test gas if there is a leak sucked in and causes a drop in the oxygen partial pressure on the sensor element. The drop of the sensor signal then indicates Leak. The percentage change of the Sensor signal can additionally as a measure of the leak rate be used. The advantage of using flammable test gases is that by the "burning" a very achieved high signal change becomes.
One another possibility based on that as well non-flammable test gases, z. For example, helium, nitrogen or oxygen, the oxygen concentration reduce or increase in the vacuum recipient when they leak penetration. The change of the sensor signal then indicates a leak, as in the first measuring principle. The percentage change The sensor signal can also be used here as a measure of the leak rate be used.
While at the first two measuring principles the sensor element is installed in the vacuum recipient, the Gas sensor also used as a sniffer (handheld device) become. In the process, the to be tested Apparatus under low pressure with a test gas filled, so that Test gas by leaks to the outside penetrates and outside the vacuum recipient is detected.
Independent of the detection of a leak can be done with such an oxygen sensor on a solid electrolyte basis also simultaneously measured the total pressure in a vacuum recipient and serve as a further indication of the leak rate. This is possible, because the sensor element must be kept at a constant temperature. The necessary Heating power increases with increasing total pressure, as the convective heat loss of the sensor element also rise.
