Description
The present invention relates to a matchable Attenuator, consisting of a planar line with Damping material applied to the side of the line.
Such a planar attenuator is from H. Geschwinde, W. Krank: Strip Lines, C. F. Wintersche Verlagshandlung, 1960, pages 66-68. The Attenuation material of this known attenuator is made from an applied on the substrate next to the line Resistance layer. This publication does not work shows that and by what means a subsequent Change in damping can be made.
From Stäger, C .: Coaxial broadband microwave attenuator high resilience, technical information PTT, 5/1972, S. 170-175 an attenuator is known, the side next to a stripline with damping material is. For the purpose of damping adjustment, this is Movable damping material.
Also from GB 1 456 370 and Patent Abstracts of Japan E-1610, 1994, vol. 18 / no. 509 JP 6-177610 A are attenuators known in the side next to a planar line Damping material is applied. The publications are closed Infer that the amount of damping from the shape, length or width of the damping material depends.
The invention has for its object a matchable Attenuator of the type mentioned specify that with as little effort as possible and simple Can be adjusted to a desired damping value. A good one should be used across the entire adjustment range Adaptation is retained.
This object is achieved with the features of claim 1 solved in that the width of the line in one Section with a length of about half Operating wavelength of the attenuator is reduced. In this section is at least on one side next to the Line applied a layer of damping material. A desired damping can be changed by changing the width of the Damping material layer can be adjusted.
Because of the cable length of λ / 2 the width reduced line and the adjacent, likewise λ / 2 long damping material layer is even with a Changing the width of the damping material layer No adaptation to the inputs or outputs of the line disturbed.
The damping material layer is advantageously also Trimmed with the help of a laser to such a width that sets a desired damping.
In order to maximize the operating bandwidth of the To achieve attenuator, it is useful to both Ends of the λ / 2 long damping material layer one each Section with a length of about λ / 4 of the damping material connect, the width of the λ / 4 long sections compared to the λ / 2 long part of the damping material layer is reduced.
Es zeigen: Using two shown in the drawing The invention is described in more detail below explained. Show it:
Fig. 1 ein Dämpfungsglied mit zwei zu beiden Seiten einer Leitung aufgebrachten λ/2 langen Dämpfungsmaterialschichten und Fig. 1 shows an attenuator with two λ / 2 long damping material layers applied to both sides of a line and
Fig. 2 shows an attenuator, in which the λ / 2 long damping material layers have at their ends λ / 4 long sections with reduced width.
Ausgang. The attenuator shown in Fig. 1 consists of a planar line 1 , which is applied to a substrate lying in the plane of the drawing. This line 1 is reduced in length to a length L, which corresponds approximately to half the operating wavelength λ of the attenuator. The line section with reduced conductor width w is designed in the illustrated embodiment such that the line 1 is provided with recesses on both opposite longitudinal sides. In these recesses, two approximately λ / 2 long damping material layers 2 and 3 are applied to the substrate on both sides of the line 1 . Because of the length L = λ / 2 of the conduit section reduced in width and the two adjacent λ / 2 long damping material layers 2 , 3 there is no transformation of the input or output resistances of the damping element. Accordingly, a change in the width b of the λ / 2 long damping material layers 2 and 3 has no effect on the adaptation of the damping element at its input or output.
The through loss of line 1 can be changed in a very simple manner by changing, that is reducing, the width b of the two λ / 2 long damping material layers 2 and 3 . Depending on the extent to which the width b of the damping material layers 2 and 3 is changed, a specific damping value is established. Since a very precise and finely graduated change in width of the damping material layers 2 and 3 can be carried out with a laser, a very exact damping adjustment to a desired value is also possible.
In the exemplary embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the width w of the reduced-width line section and also the width b of the λ / 2 long damping material layers 2 and 3 adjoining it are constant over their entire length L. The attenuator shown in FIG. 2 also has two λ / 2 long damping material layers 4 and 5 , which extend on both sides of the planar line 1 . These damping material layers 4 and 5 are followed at the ends of a section of length L = λ / 2 and width b by sections 41 and 42 or 51 and 52 , each of which has a length L 'of λ / 4. The width b 'of the end sections 41 , 42 and 51 , 52 is reduced compared to the width b of the λ / 2 long part of the damping material layers 4 and 5 . Accordingly, the line 1 in the region of the λ / 4 long end sections 41 , 42 , 51 , 52 of the damping material layers is reduced to a width w ', but this is greater than the width w in the region of the λ / 2 long part of the damping material layers 4 and 5 . Through this width gradation of the line 1 and the damping material layers, broadband operation of the attenuator can be achieved.
With the single-stage attenuator shown in FIG. 1, in which the attenuation material layers 2 and 3 have a constant width, the attenuation can be tuned between 0.3 to 7 dB in an operating frequency range from 23 to 28 GHz. In the case of a two-stage attenuator according to the exemplary embodiment in FIG. 2, a tuning range from 0.4 to 10.5 dB is possible in a frequency range from 20 GHz to 33 GHz. In both cases, the adjustment remains better than 15 dB with any attenuation adjustment.
