Description
The invention relates to a method for separating metal Ions according to the first claim.
Die Veröffentlichung von Georges GREVILLOT und John DODDS: "Separation by Thermal Parametric Pumping in Adsorbing Systems: A New Approach" in I. Chem. The publication by Georges GREVILLOT and John DODDS: "Separation by Thermal Parametric Pumping in Adsorbing Systems: A New Approach" in I. Chem. E. Symposium Series No. 54 (1978) describes the so-called parametric pumping based on an experimental separation of the metal ions Ag + and Cu ++ from an aqueous solution. The parametric pump is understood to be a separation process that starts from small differences in the equilibrium position in two different thermodynamic states and effects the separation by means of cyclical contacting with a sorbent.
According to this publication, the metal ions were separated Chung a column reactor used with a strongly acidic Ion exchange resin was filled. The ion exchange resin was at a temperature of 20 ° C with an aqueous solution of 0.5 N silver and 0.5 N copper nitrate. Then a portion of the aqueous solution was poured into a container ter transferred via a line to one end of the Column reactor connected. Then the Column reactor heated to a temperature of 60 ° C and that remaining volume of the aqueous solution (the second partial volume) pumped into a second container, the other end of the column reactor was connected. Then the sow lenreaktor cooled again to 20 ° C and the partial volume pumped back into the column reactor in the first container. These steps were carried out 36 times. There was one almost 100% separation of the two metal ions in the two partial volumes.
The process has not become established in technology; it works uneconomical because the temperature changes one high energy consumption.
The publication by J.E. SABADELL and N.H. SWEED: "Pa rametric pumping with pH "in Separation Science, 5 (3), pp. 171-181, June 1970 describes parametric pumping with the Variation of the pH value instead of the temperature as with Grevil lot and dodds. Above a column reactor with a Katio is filled, there is a reservoir basic aqueous solution of potassium and sodium ions. Out the basic solution flows into the column reactor, where the equilibrium is established. After that leaves to drain the solution from the column reactor, from which Reservoir of basic solution flows into the column reactor. The portion of the basic solution flowing out of the column reactor with concentrated hydrochloric acid to a pH of titrated about 3. Then the acidified portion of the Solution again pumped through the column reactor, at the top of the Column reactor analyzed and then discarded. After that starts the cycle from the beginning.
Unlike the process that Grevillot and Dodds be write, this method does not work with a solution with constant volume, which is separated into two partial volumes becomes. The reason for this is that the pH-in position the basic solution with the concentrated hydrochloric acid is diluted; a further dilution by adding an al Kalische medium would the desired enrichment of the Me destroy ion ions. For the same reason, con centered hydrochloric acid titrated due to the low vol mens hydrochloric acid obviously a considerable effort Setting the desired pH is required. In the The use of buffer solutions will be published animals; since the buffer solutions with the ion exchange process curriculum, their use is considered unacceptable.
The process does provide a certain separation effect and one Enrichment of the two metal ion species, the effort here for seems extremely high. Only after several There is a separation factor of a maximum of approx. 1.5 cycles stood.
Parametric pumping with a variation of the pH value is also in the publication "Separation of Proteins via pH-Parametric Pumping" by HT CHEN, U. PACHAROEN, WT YANG, CO KEROBO and RJ PARISI in SEPARATION SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY, 15 (6) , pp. 1377-1391, 1980 and in AIChE-Jounal 26, 839 (1980). Proteins are to be separated from one another. One of the methods described works with a column reactor, which can be filled with an anion or a cation exchanger. Above the column reactor is a container with an aqueous solution of proteins. The solution in the upper container is kept at a pH value P 2 in the acidic range with suitable buffer systems. A second container is located below the reactor, in which the solution is adjusted to a pH value P 1 in the alkaline range. As with the process described by Grevillot and Dodds, the solutions in the upper and lower tanks are passed alternately through the column reactor. The method uses the property of proteins to carry both positively and negatively charged groups, their total charge being pH-dependent. The total charge is negative at high pH values and positive at low pH values. As a result, both anion and cation exchangers can be used. The other procedures relate to multi-column systems. The separation of other substances, in particular the separation of metal ions, is not reported.
A critical appreciation of the work of Chen et al and von Sabadell and Sweed can be found in "Adsorption and Ion Exchange - Progress and Future Prospects ", John SHERMAN, editor and Theodore VERMEULEN, co-editor, AIChE Symposium Series 233 Vo lume 80. 1984 (American Institute of Chemical Engineers) pp. 44-53: "Parametric Pumping and Cycling Zone Adsorption - A Critical Analysis "by N. H. SWEED. Under the heading" Re cuperative pH Mode "is the opinion of Saba dell and Sweed, and methods described by Chen et al be little effective. It becomes the so-called "teabag" procedure ren proposed, with which each, in the author's opinion adsorption controlled separation can be carried out. At the "Tea bag "process is the starting solution in two partial solutions divided up. A distinction is made in the two partial solutions pH adjusted. Then alternately in each of the Partial solutions as long as a sorbent, such as an ion exchanger, immersed until a steady state occurs. Ins however, parametric pumping with a change in pH is overall judged skeptically. A wider separation than that "Teabag" process is not in any other process variant expected.

II. Effect of Chemical Structure on Chelating Properties. Structure of the Chelates "in J. of Polym. Science Vol. 62, pp. 387-399 (1962) describe a complex-forming ion exchanger, the Selectivity for copper is strongly pH-dependent.
From R. Hering: "Application of chelating ion exchangers resins in analytical chemistry "in Zeitschr. f. Chemie 1965, Issue 11, pp. 402-409 it is known that when using chelating ion exchangers by adding com plexer metal ions can be separated from each other. The possibilities of metal-specific separation are significantly increased if the pH value also changes becomes.
The invention has for its object the parametric Design pumps with changes in pH so that a Separation of metal ions, especially heavy metal ions is possible.
Die weiteren An sprüche geben bevorzugte Ausgestaltungen des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens an.The task is inventively by the in the first Pa Solved method described claim. The other An sayings give preferred embodiments of the invention Procedure.
With the method according to the invention, two or more can be Species of metal ions, especially heavy metal ions, separate from each other. The individual species of metal ions can derive from different or from the same elements be. For example, different heavy metal ions or heavy metal ions in different valence levels be separated from each other. The metal ions are in the right gel in the form of their salts.
The aqueous solution is now in at least a first and a split second partial solution. If not just two, but several species are to be separated expediently produced as many partial solutions as for separating species are present in the aqueous solution.
At least the first partial solution now becomes a complex image added. In the event that two partial solutions were prepared only one of the two needs the complexing agent hold. If there are several partial solutions, you can use the com contain plexing agents in different concentrations, one of the partial solutions remaining free of complexing agents can.
The complexing agent is too complex in terms of the amount of xing metal ions of one or more species in the sub shot used. This does not remove all of the complex images complexed metal ions. Prefers is to add the complex images in such an amount that the ratio of the concentration of all metal ions to the concentration tration of the complexing agent in the partial solution between 1: 1 and 10: 1 [mol / mol].
Substances that are at least suitable are complexing agents complex one of the species in aqueous solution. For heavy metals are particularly suitable for weak organic acids and their salts such as. B. tartaric acid and citric acid. The The amount of complexing agent is preferably chosen so that the ratio of the concentration of all metal ions to the concentration tration of the complexing agent in the partial solution between 1: 1 and 10: 1 [mol / mol].
By adding the complexing agent, at least one the species of the metal ions in the first and possibly in the further Partial solutions partially masked, the masked part of the Metal ions either a different adsorb than the sorbent behavior shows as the unmasked part or else is not adsorbed on the sorbent at all. In others with Masking is added to complexing agents against at least largely canceled if a second pH Value is present that does not or only the formation of the complex allows limited. The differences in adsorption behavior at the sorbent between the masked species in one of the parts solutions and the unmasked species in the other part solution are much larger than the differences in the ad sorption of various species on the sorbent itself. Through the Addition of the complexing agent thus low sorpti ons differences between the individual species clearly reinforced. For this reason, the efficiency of the inventions method according to the invention is considerably higher than that of the method after Sabadell and Sweed.
Then the first of the partial solutions with a sorbent brought into contact. The sorbent must be able to reversibly adsorb tallions. As a sorbent, everyone can Types of ion exchangers, thus strongly or weakly acidic and strong or weakly basic. As Sor However, activated carbon can also be used successfully. Contact with the partial solutions can be done in the known manner either by the "tea bag" process or by a column processes are produced.
The amount of sorbent according to the invention is such that its exchange capacity at most the amount of all metal ions corresponds to each species in the individual partial solutions. With The separation performance decreases with larger amounts of sorbent.
Then the pH in the first partial solution set a first value. The pH value only at this Setting the time has the advantage that pH changes in the partial solution that results from the contact of the sorbent ben, be balanced.
To adjust the pH value, water is used in gas that reacts to a small extent but is difficult to dissolve. Examples of such gases are nitric oxide, which is too nitrous acid dissolves, and carbon dioxide, the carbonic acid bil det. In this case, the partial solution is pressurized standing gas, the height of the gas partial pressure changes the pH. Because the gases themselves difficult to dissolve in water can be done by relieving pressure Bring the pH back almost to the original value. A special advantage when using gases for pH Attitude is that the partial solutions are no further be diluted. Another major advantage is that the solutions are not additionally loaded with the salts. Salts are formed in the prior art processes through the neutralization of acids and bases.
Carbon dioxide is used to adjust the pH because of it Non-toxicity and its chemical properties especially be prefers.
The first pH is adjusted so that in the first part solution of at least one species both the complexed and the free metal ions are present side by side. For the preferred case that the complexing agent in substoichio metric quantity in the partial solution, the first pH is in a relatively wide range.
The contact of the sorbent is specified at this pH maintain for a long time. The given time is in in most cases, the time it takes for the Balance passes. In individual cases, however, it can be cheaper not to wait for the equilibrium If the rate of adsorption of the various Species vary widely, an additional one Separation effect can be achieved when balancing is not waited for.
In general, the contact of the sorbent with the first partial solution then ends when the ratio of Concentration of a first species in the sorbent for con concentration of all species in the first partial solution is a maximum assumes.
Then the second partial solution is in contact with the sorbent brings. Then the pH value in the second part solution to a second value that deviates from the first value posed. Does the second partial solution also contain the comm plexing agent, the second pH is preferably chosen so that the complexing properties change as much as possible other. If the second partial solution does not contain a complexing agent, the second pH can be chosen from a wide range the. The contact of the sorbent is again so long maintain until the ratio of the concentration of sorbent adsorbed metal ions of the second species to Kon concentration of all metal present in the second partial solution ion assumes a maximum.
If necessary, these steps will now also be applied to other parts solutions made. Then the procedure is repeated repeated cyclically until a steady state occurs poses.

The ion exchanger Lewatit S100 in Na form was used as sorbent. The total capacity of the ion exchanger be carried q tot = 40.03 meq. The lower pH in the partial solutions was adjusted with carbon dioxide at room temperature and a pressure of 15 bar; to adjust the higher pH, the partial solutions were exposed to compressed air at a pressure of 4.5 bar. The storage containers 1 , 2 (the information for storage container 2 are given in brackets) were treated with 4.78 (4.79) l of a solution with a Cu output concentration of 4.04 (4.10) meq / l and a nickel output con concentration of 4.00 (4.00) meq / l and a sodium tar concentration of 4.11 (3.97) mmol / l. The anchor group ratio was 99.6 (98.8)%, the complexing agent ratio 101.5 (98.0)%.
The concentration and loading ratios shown in FIG. 2 result. The measured values (points, squares, etc.) correspond to the successive half cycles, the term half cycle being understood to mean each new contact of the sorbent with one of the two partial solutions. The first partial solution comes into contact with the sorbent in the 1st, 3rd, 5th etc. half cycle. As can be seen from FIG. 2, there is a considerable separation effect for copper and nickel ions after only a few half cycles.
Example 1 was repeated with the following changes: the total amount of sorbent was 15 g; this corresponds to a total capacity of 37.8 meq. Storage tanks 1 and 2 (the values for storage tank 2 are in brackets) were mixed with 4.64 (4.75) l of a solution with a Cu concentration of 3.61 (3.88) mmol / l, a Ni concentration of 3.95 (3.93) mmol / l and a sodium tartrate concentration of 4.0 (4.0) mmol / l filled. A complexing agent ratio of 50 (50)% resulted in the storage containers. The anchor group ratio was also 50%. In both receptacles, the partial solutions were previously raised to pH 5.58 (5.48) with NaOH. The separation effects shown in FIG. 3 resulted.
With the help of a computer program, the concentrations a series of ions and complexes in two partial solutions different pH value calculated.
sungen ausgegangen:
4 mmol/l CuCl2
4 mmol/l NiCl2
4 mmol/l Na2-Tartrat entsprechend einem Komplexbildner
verhältnis von 50%
2 mmol/l NaOH zur pH-Anhebung über pK2 = 4,23
der Weinsäure. The following initial composition of the partial solutions is assumed:
4 mmol / l CuCl 2
4 mmol / l NiCl 2
4 mmol / l Na 2 tartrate corresponding to a complexing agent ratio of 50%
2 mmol / l NaOH for raising the pH above pK2 = 4.23 of tartaric acid.
The concentrations were determined using the data set for com plex equilibrium data according to Eberle et al. record FAW_SYSWTL6, KfK, IRCh-WTL, 1992 calculated.
At a pH of 4.36 (corresponding to a carbon dioxide Partial pressure of 12 bar) and a pH of 5.53 (corre corresponding to the partial pressure of 0.3 mbar of carbon dioxide in compressed air) the following calculated concentrations result:
The values are shown graphically in FIG .
The values are shown graphically in FIG .
It becomes clear that in the heavy metal system Cu / Ni the formation of Ni tartrate complexes compared to the clear concentrate Change in copper complexes with charge reversal can be relaxed. This shows the masking effect of the com plexing agent at the higher pH. In the Ver driving is less the numerical difference between the two pH values of importance but mainly one si significant change in the concentrations of such complexes are not absorbed by the sorbent.
