Abstract
Description
The invention is based on a powder mixture for manufacture after a sintered, electrically insulating layer the genus of the main claim. From such powder mix electrical insulation layers for example application for the insulation of conductor tracks electrochemical sensors.
Electrochemical sensors are for example in the fin gerbauform, in which a solid electrolyte body in a metallic housing is gas-tight. At po potential-free sensors, each electrode connection is di fed directly to a control unit, no electrical Contacting the housing is permitted. A sealing element between the solid electrolyte body and the housing semi-electrically insulating, functional and hermetic be tight.
From the unpublished PCT / DE 94/00791 is a potenti Free sensor with an insulating layer from one oxide ceramic material and an alkaline earth silicate glass knows. Thermal after-treatment creates a price dear glaze. However, the gas tightness for gasoline tight, potential-free sensor unsatisfactory. For high users The specific electrical temperature is up to 630 ° C Resistance of the glaze is often too low and the structure of the insulating layer is not sufficiently homogeneous and adherent on the sensor element.
It is an object of the invention to provide a sintered, electrical insulating layer of more homogeneous structure and thus with it higher strength and gas tightness as well as with improved electrical insulation capacity at comparable or to provide lower costs. The insulating layer should in the entire application temperature range of a Meßfü be stable.
It was found that a ge on a ceramic body brought electrically insulating layer from a crystalli non-metallic material and a glass-forming material material particularly good strength and gas tightness as well has good electrical insulation if that crystalline, non-metallic material has a sintering activity which has a relative sintered density of 95% leads. The relative sintered density is the quotient of the actual sinter density and the theoretical sinter density, the theoretical sintered density being an absolutely po Renewable ceramics is accepted.
It has been shown that as a crystalline, non-metallic Material in the powder mixture alumina (aluminum oxide) is suitable and from the commercially available clays the clay with a sintering activity is particularly useful are such a sintered density or rela tive sintered density. The sintering activity that one can also be called reactivity, is different the properties of the alumina powder used flows, such as grain size, grain size distribution, Grain shape, crystallinity, lattice defects, surface structure tur, active centers in the surface (for example by Grinding effects), phase composition (e.g. content of Transition alumina), stoichiometry of aluminum oxide, Art and amount of impurities or admixtures of foreign substances and the like.
One produced with the powder mixture according to the invention sintered electrically insulating layer is particularly ge suitable for electrical insulation from solid electrolyte bodies of electrochemical sensors arranged Lei tracks, the insulating layer having a sealing zone forms a sealing ring.
The insulating layer has a significantly improved homogeneous structure and mechanical strength against pressure pointed through the sealing ring during the joining process of the Senso relements arise in the housing. Consequently, the isolie high mechanical strength and gas tightness. The specific electrical resistance of the insulating layer is 2 to 5 times higher than in ago conventional layers.
A particularly high gas tightness of the insulating layer is used when using alumina powder with a grain size achieved of d₅₀ <0.40 µm. In addition, if the Grain distribution set from d₉₀ <1.00 µm, so the Gas tightness of the layer can be further improved. With the This grain fineness and grain distribution became a gas tightness achieved which is 2 to 4 times higher than with conventional layers (see table). With d₅₀ is the average grain size referred to the mass fraction net, d₉₀ is the grain size at which 90% is finer or the same are based on the mass fraction.
The penetration of the glass-forming material into the material ial of the electrically conductive connection is to be avoided it expedient, at least in the insulating layer Area of the electrically conductive connection an intermediate Arrange layer, which is preferably made of the material of the Solid electrolyte body exists.
To prevent or reduce pressure peaks of a sealing element on the insulating layer, it is also possible, at least in the region of the sealing ring, to provide the insulating layer with a covering layer. Since cracks are avoided in the insulating layer, which would otherwise impair the insulating effect and strength of the insulating layer. In addition, the cover layer used acts as a diffusion barrier for disruptive cations, such as Cu⁺, Cu 2+ , Fe 2+ , which arise on the sealing element and cause a low electrical conductivity in the insulating layer and thus reduce the insulation effect at high temperatures .
By choosing the grain size and distribution according to the Alumina B and C (see table) can be the sintering temperature Reduce from about 1600 ° C up to 1250 ° C. Particularly good Stig is that mixture for the production of the insulating Thermal treatment layer within a loading range above the melting temperature of the glass-forming Ma terials below 1400 ° C.
By co-sintering the insulating layer respectively the other layers applied together with the feast The process sequence can be particularly electrolytic integrate efficiently into the manufacturing process. The isolie layer also has excellent adhesion, which is particularly the result of co-sintering. A largely adapted thermal expansion of the isolie layer to the material of the solid electrolyte body also has a positive effect on shift adhesion. The dense, insulating layer also protects the Festelek trolytic body from hydrothermal attacks, especially in Low temperature range at 150 to 300 ° C. This will make the Structural stability of the solid electrolyte body improved.
Es zeigenEmbodiments of the invention are in the following Description explained in more detail. Show it

The electrochemical sensor 10 shown in Fig. 1 has a metallic housing 11 , and is installed in a sample gas tube not shown. The housing 11 has a sealing seat 19 which carries a sealing ring 20 . On provided with the sealing ring 20 sealing seat 19 is a sensor element 14 having a shoulder formed sixteenth On Sen sorelement forms 14 between sealing ring 20 and sensor element 14, a sensor element-side sealing surface 22. The sealing seat 19 in turn forms a housing-side sealing surface.
The sensor element 14 is an oxygen probe which is used for measuring the oxygen partial pressure in exhaust gases. The sensor element 14 is designed as a tubular Festelek trolytkörper 23 . On the outside exposed to the measuring gas, a layer-shaped, gas-permeable measuring electrode 25 is arranged on the solid electrolyte body 23 and a reference gas, for example air, exposed, gas-permeable and layered reference electrode 26 is arranged on the side facing the interior space. The measuring electrode 25 is provided with a measuring electrode conductor 27 , the reference electrode 26 with a reference electrode conductor 28 . The conductor tracks 27 , 28 are constructed as cermet layers and are co-sintered with the solid electrolyte body 23 . The conductor tracks 27 , 28 are guided with contact parts 38 , 39 to the outside to a measuring or control device.
To achieve an electrically insulating and gas-tight fastening of the sensor element 14 in the housing 11 , the shoulder 16 is seated on the sealing ring 20 , which in turn rests on the sealing seat 19 of the housing 11 . In order to seal the interior of the sensor element 14 , metal or graphite is particularly suitable as a material for the sealing ring 20 . Because of their high compression, these materials are impermeable to gas, water and fuel. A steel sealing ring with a 10 micron copper coating or with a 20 micron nickel coating is useful.
A prerequisite for the use of an electrically conductive sealing ring 20 is, however, that the sensor element 14 is potentially free from the metallic housing 11 . For this purpose, the conductor track 27 is covered with an electrically insulating layer 21 in the area of the sealing surface 22 on the sensor element side. The insulating layer 21 has a layer thickness of 20 to 100 micrometers. The insulating layer 21 is drawn over the entire area of the conductor track 27 and around the circumference of the solid electrolyte body 23 , which is adjacent to the housing 11 . It is conceivable to limit the insulating layer 21 only to the area of the sealing surface 22 or to expand the insulating layer 21 on the measurement gas side, which is advantageous in order to avoid shunts due to soot and / or other conductive deposits from the exhaust gas.
In addition, the conductor track 27 can be covered with an intermediate layer, preferably made of the material of the solid electrolyte body. The intermediate layer has the function that the glass-forming material of the insulating layer 21 does not diffuse into the material of the conductor track 27 and influences the conductivity of the conductor track 27 .
To produce the sintered, electrically insulating layer 21 , a powder mixture of an alumina with a specific sintering activity and a glass-forming material, for example an alkaline earth silicate glass, is used. The alumina was selected so that at a sintering temperature, which is necessary for the formation of a glaze filled with the alumina when the powder mixture is sintered, the alumina itself has a sintering activity which leads to a relative sintered density of at least 95%. Such an alumina is present according to FIG. 2 with the alumina B and C. More details of the sensor construction, e.g. B. in area X, are described in the figures of PCT / DE 94 // 00791.
Fig. 2 shows a diagram with the actual sintered density ρ S in g / cm³ and the relative sintered density ρ S / ρ th in% for three different clays A, B and C over the sintering temperature t₅ in ° C. From the diagram it can be seen that at a sintering temperature t S of 1400 ° C the clay earths B and C have a relative sintered density of <95%. The properties of the clays shown in Fig. 2 are shown in the table below.
In addition to being a crystalline, non-metallic material the clay B or C or instead of the clay B or C white tere crystalline materials, such as Mg spinel, forsterite, MgO-stabilized ZrO₂, CaO and / or Y₂O₃-stabilized ZrO₂ with low stabilizer contents, advantageous with ma ximal 2/3 of the stabilizer oxide of the full stabilization, non-stabilized ZrO₂ or HfO₂ or a mixture of these Substances can be added to the powder mixture. These crystalline however, non-metallic materials need a sintering action vity that lead to a relative sintered density of we leads at least 95%.
An alkaline earth silicate glass, for example Ba-Al silicate, is used as the glass-forming material. The Ba-Al silicate, for example, has a thermal expansion coefficient of 8.5 × 10 -6 K -1 . The barium can be replaced by strontium up to 30 atomic%.
The alkaline earth silicate glass can be used as a pre-melted glass frit or introduced as a glass phase raw material mixture. The Mixture of materials may be electrically conductive impurities contain up to a maximum of 1% by weight. This is especially true Na₂O, K₂O, Fe₂O₃, TiO₂, Cu₂O or similar semiconducting oxides. Most of time is the content of electrically conductive impurities in the commercial raw materials under 0.2 wt .-%.
Alternatively, a cover layer can be arranged on an electrically insulating layer 21 in the area of the sealing surface 22 on the sensor element side, so that the sealing ring 20 abuts the cover layer on the sensor side. The cover layer is a dense ceramic layer. The cover layer itself does not have to have an insulation resistance, but may have a noticeable electron and / or ionic conductivity. In the case of electrical conductivity, the covering layer must not overlap the insulating layer 21 . The layer thickness of the cover layer is between 10 and 50 microns. It has also proven to be advantageous to adapt the thermal expansion coefficients of the layer system to approximately ± 2 × 10 -6 K -1 .
Nachfolgend werden verschiedene Beispiele für die Zusammen setzung und die Herstellung der isolierenden Schicht 21 be schrieben: Various examples of the composition and the production of the insulating layer 21 are described below:
60 Gew.-% Tonerde B oder C (siehe Tabelle), 40 Gew.-% Ba-Al- Silikat-Glaspulver (53 Gew.-% BaO, 5 Gew.-% Al₂O₃, 42 Gew.-% SiO₂, spezifische Oberfläche 5 m²/g).60% by weight of alumina B or C (see table), 40% by weight of Ba-Al- Silicate glass powder (53% by weight BaO, 5% by weight Al₂O₃, 42% by weight SiO₂, specific surface 5 m² / g).
The raw materials are in a ball mill with 90% Al₂O₃ grinding balls homogenized and ground for two hours. The slip is in a ball mill with 90% Al₂O₃ grinding balls with a grinding time of 1.5 hours ge grind.
Then the slip is co-sintered together with the solid electrolyte body 23 for about 3 hours at 1300 to 1400 ° C., so that the insulating layer according to FIG. 1 forms. To mount the sensor, the sensor element 14 is placed on the sealing ring 20 . The insulation resistance at a sealing ring temperature of 500 ° C in this embodiment is over 1 MOhm. Ver is the insulation resistance of a Sensorele element 14 , which was only provided with a coating of a 5 mol% Y₂O₃ partially stabilized ZrO₂ in the sealing zone 22 , at 500 ° C sealing ring temperature below 5 kOhm.
