Hierzu verwendet man giftige Substanzen in feingekörnter oder in pulveriger Form. Dieses Gift wird bislang in der Nähe der Pflanzen auf die Erde gestreut, so daß die Schädlinge hiermit in Berührung kommen bzw. davon fressen, bevor sie die Pflanze erreichen. Viele dieser Gifte locken die Schädlinge an und verleiten diese dazu, von dem Gift zu fressen. Das Mittel bleibt vielmehr nach dem Auföbreuen auf der Bodenplatte liegen, weil die Abdeckplatte den Wind weitgehend fernhält. Die einzelnen Körnchen des Mittels bleiben somit an einer Stelle zusammen und entwickeln dort einen verhältnismäßig starken Geruch, der deisr Gerät entströmt und die Schädlinge anlockt.
