für wäßrige Elektrolyse.for aqueous electrolysis.
Patentiert im Deutschen Reiche vom 9. Mai 1906 ab. Patented in the German Empire on May 9, 1906 .
If you have carbon electrodes respectively. Graphite electrodes that have been in water for a while Solutions have worked, investigated, it is found that they are firstly an increased Show exit resistance for the current and that secondly the working surface is softened to a certain depth. Experience has shown that this is a rapid Destruction caused by chemical and mechanical means. This softening of the carbon electrodes is due to the fact that a carbon electrode never is a completely homogeneous mass, but consists of small carbon particles that more or less intimately related, depending on the quality of the coals. Will now The surface of the coal is loosened somewhat by the application of electricity, so the loosened ones hang Particles are only extremely loose and poorly conductive with the electrode body. The consequence of this is that this Particles become cathode on one side and anode on the other. This will be During electrolysis, decomposition products are produced, which can be found in various ways Can chemically reunite to form compounds that cause destruction speed up the coal. This further develops the harmful surface layer and is the cause of the often very rapid destruction of the electrode carbons. The present invention now aims to avoid the formation of such a layer and the coal also to make them more resistant inside, through their whole mass, by which means a much longer service life of the coal is achieved.
A means of avoiding the harmful layer formation is thus given, that by subsequently filling the pores of the electrode carbon with a counter the resulting electrode product chemically resistant, electrical conductor first Class (in contrast to the electrolyte) the individual particles of the carbon metallic with each other connects.
To z. B. for nascent chlorine an anode carbon according to the present invention To make it more resistant, the charcoal is soaked in a solution of platinum chloride , dries and heats up to the decomposition temperature of the platinum chloride. Through this metallic platinum is deposited in the pores of the carbon and this is essential more resistant to destruction.
For example, attempts have been made to find a core and to protect serving as a power supply metal rod by the fact that the pores of the anode surface with a chemically resistant Paste were clogged; Attempts have also been made to put platinum on the surface to deposit the carbon electrolytically, but not to deposit the carbon body itself to protect, but to store
kathodisch entwickeltem Wasserstoff. In all cases, the previous inventors counted on it limited to make the surface of the carbon electrode more resistant but never tries to protect the carbon itself from attack. Even if the proposed methods would be useful would protect the carbon anode only a temporary one, as the resistance would cease immediately after the prepared surface was worn down. In contrast, it succeeds with the present method, the carbon material even before To protect the attack of the oxygen generated by secondary processes at the anode, because the individual carbon particles also interact with one another inside the carbon anodes are connected by metallic conductive bridges and therefore not, as with the others Procedure that can act as a center conductor. To this state and the desired effect To achieve this, it is not absolutely necessary to completely fill the pores.
