Description
It is known that mixtures of natural or synthetic rubber which can be vulcanized in a known manner (by adding curable or hardening synthetic resins, in particular phenolic resins, can be reinforced, so that the synthetic resins added go irreversibly into the reticulated state during the preparation of the mixtures or during vulcanization and then above all increase the hardness of the vulcanizates. In practice Vverden for this purpose novolak-hexamethylene-letramine mixtures, hereinafter referred to for simplicity as "reinforcing resins", are preferred. The individual resin types differ from one another in their starting basis Phenol (C 0 H 5 OH), phenol derivatives or phenol with the use of modifying additives, e.g. 13. Cashev oil, which are intended to improve the compatibility of the resin with rubber. The reinforcing resins are particularly recommended for reinforcing nitrile rubber mixtures (see W Hof ma η η, "Nitrile rubber", Stutt gart! [1965], p. 304, as well as the literature cited there). But even with this type of chewing product, not all reinforcing resins are compatible in any mixing ratio. For this reason, phenol novolaks in particular have been used, which are modified with the oil from the nutshells of the kidney tree (Cashevv nutshell oil). The Goodrich Service Bulletin H-4, September 1950 edition, states that only one very specific reinforcing resin, presumably manufactured according to US Pat. No. 25 32 374, is well tolerated with Niiril-Küutschuk and gives particularly good effects. Other resins containing cashew nutshell oil are described in the publication "Cellobond Rubber Reinforcing Resins", London 1961. The different effects of the various reinforcing resins in Niirilkaulschuk become clear when one compares the properties of vulcanized parts made from unsubstituted or modified with cashew nutshell oil phenol no \ olaks (mixtures 4, 7 and S) Rubber were added. The vulcanizates from Mixtures 7 and 8 have a Vulkanisaiheria of over 90 "Shore A and are almost free of heart grains, but are dark brown in color. In contrast, the vulcanizates from Mixture 4 that are hergesicikcii in the same way contain numerous small and very small grains, which make the Vulkanisal opaque The Vulkanisai hardness is around 76 Shore A and is therefore 15 to 20 lower.
Cellobond Rubber Reinforcing Resins sowie Druckschrift der Firma Dme/).ίο The basis of the amplifier har / s It is well known that novolaks only harden with the help of hexamethylenetetramine. Both components are generally used finely ground and mixed together. In this way, easily incorporated, very fine-grained powder containing the reactants are evenly distributed. However, these sealing resins have the disadvantage that they when Incorporation into the rubber in an internal mixer due to the high temperatures occurring prematurely / hastily caking or, after distribution in rubber, react prematurely in the sense of re-formation. In order to circumvent these disadvantages, therefore, all of the resins modified with cashew nutshell oil are in FIG It has been advised to incorporate the pure novolaks first and then the hexamethylenetetramine later. Noticeably better intensification efiects are obviously not achieved as a result (cf. Cellobond Rubber Reinforcing Resins and printed matter from Dme /).
Furthermore, Kaiiischukmischiingen are already mixed with a Content of novolak and a hardener for the shark /, z. B. hexamethylenetetramine described. This on known mixtures are, however, on a very special Kautsehuklvp. namely on Buuiuien-Vinv Ipvridin-Mischpolv, merisate limited. By the lack of vulcanizing agents therefore does not result in vulcanization in the usual sense, but only a hardening of the phenolic resin. It is also known to use mixtures of butadiene acrylonitrile rubber and novolak made from unmodified Phcnol-aldehyde resin in which the hexamethylenetetramine is introduced into the mixture separately from the resin. Line However, this did not result in reinforcement.
Surprisingly, it has now been found that in the production of Vulkanisatcn by vulcanization of Kautscluikmischungen with known mixtures of unmodified Phenolnovolakhar / .en and hexamethylenetetramine a better distribution of the resins in mixtures as well as a positive one Change in physical properties, such as an increase in notch toughness and hardness, educate and the cited disadvantages are avoided if the phenol novolak resins and hexamethylenetetramine each separately incorporated into the rubber. Following this procedure you will be using simple phenolic novolaks obtained completely homogeneous translucent vulcanizates with high hardness. Dei The reinforcement effect of the resins is within «ev. issei Limits have become more consciously controllable. In addition, reinforcement is at least as good it is the same as when using phenol novolaks, dk are modiii / ieri with complex substances. Fs is also possible, the novolak-1 lai / and da; Hexamethylenetetramine in each case to a "'" part, /. B. / in half, to be incorporated separately and the remaining An add leile in the mixture.
Die vorteilhafte Wirkung auf die Eigenschaften dei Endprodukte des crfinJungsgcmäßcn Verfahrens kamThe beneficial effect on the properties of the final products of the youth process came about
Dies kann der Fall sein, wenn das Hexamethylentetramin i.) den ic Kautschukmischungen gleichzeitig auch als Vulkanisationsbeschleuniger dient.depend to a certain extent on the quality of the particular type of rubber used. These However, dependency can be turned off if only small amounts of hexamethyleniretamine. for example 2 to 10, preferably 4 to 6 percent by weight, based on the sum of phenol novolak and hexamethylenetetramine can be used. On the other hand, it is sometimes also possible to reduce the amount of llexamethylene teiramine to choose higher. This can be the case if the hexamethylenetetramine i.) The ic Rubber compounds also serve as a vulcanization accelerator.
B. in jeder beliebigen Menge einarbeiten. The novolak resin can be added to the rubber in different amounts. For example, if nitrile rubber is used, the resin can be used e.g. B. incorporate in any amount. If you think of rubber compound ^! on the basis of dulcidiene-styrene mixed polymers , the novolak resin will expediently be added up to a maximum proportion of about 20% by weight, based on the rubber.
The method according to the invention feels to the best results if one first looks at the hexamethylenetetramine incorporated and thoroughly \ granted. If the phenol novolak is then added and im Course of the further mixing process the Tempc-IiHUi " If the temperature is even higher than the melting point of the resin, the result is a completely homogeneous mixture obtain. It is irrelevant whether the hardening of the llar / cs has already started. Fs has further proven to be beneficial proved to incorporate the sulfur as early as possible so that it is present when the mixture temperature rises above the resin melting point.
It is also possible to mix in the phenolic novolak before the hardening agent. This embodiment is advantageous over the use of a phenol novolak - hexamethylenetetramine mixture, but does not always lead to completely homogeneous vulcanizates. If you bring the hexamethylenetetramine in the mixture containing phenol novolak, so can at 711 high mixture temperature as a result of local overconcentration of the clarifying agent Specks arise.
Surprisingly, it has been shown that homogeneous Rubber mixtures can also be achieved if the novolak used is not particularly fine is ground. So the novolak can be fine as dust, but also have a larger grain size, e.g. B. from about 0.25 to 1.5, preferably 0.5 to 1 mm. Novolak introduced in this form tends a lot Less for sticking to hot mixing equipment and is just as quickly absorbed by the rubber like powdered products.
According to the liner embodiment of the confirmation can In addition to the reinforcing resin, there are also various kinds of fillers and other usual additives be incorporated into the rubber compounds.
The method of the invention is for reinforcement suitable for various types of rubber mixtures, e.g. B. those based on of natural, butyl, ethylene-propylene, ethylene-propylene terpolymer, Butadiene-styrene and preferably butadiene-acrylonitrile rubber.
According to the molding process, hard vulcanisals are obtained that are homogeneous and translucent and in which no more shark particles can be recognized. Due to the good distribution of the Reinforcing resin, the notch toughness is considerable, for example three times higher than that of vulcanizates according to the usual procedures with the help of mcm modified phenolic resins and died.
The products obtained according to the invention are excellent because of their advantageous properties for production of various types of rubber goods, for example soles, hoses, linings and coatings, profile articles or the like. Sein Schmelzintervall liegt bei etwa 78/85; C.Mixtures 1 to 3 show the reinforcement of nitrile rubber mixtures with a commercially available phenol novolak A (molar ratio of phenol to formaldehyde about 1: 0.7, melting interval according to the capillary method about 66 to 73 ° C.) when working according to the invention. The hexamethylene tetramine added to harden the phenol novolak is 7.4, 5.4 and 3.6 percent by weight of the total amount of phenol novolak and hexamethylenetetramine. For comparison, mixture 4 shows the effect of a commercially available reinforcing resin made from pure phenol, in which the ratio of phenol to condensed formaldehyde was also about I: 0.7. This resin contains approximately 9 percent by weight hexamethylenetetramine (Resin AH). Its melting interval is around 78/85 ; C.

The mixture was made as follows:
The stearic acid, zinc oxide, sulfur, hexamethylenetetramine and then the phenol novolak or the novolak-hexamethylenetetramine mixture were worked into the rubber at temperatures of up to about 100 ° C. for 9 minutes. The mixtures were then separately rolled for 5 minutes at 120 C c. After cooling down again, the 2-mercaptobenzothiazole was incorporated.
The test values of the vulcanizates clearly show that those produced according to the invention Mixtures 1 to 3 are up to 20 ° Shore Λ harder than the mixture prepared in a known manner 4. As the data show, according to the invention Process an increase in the notch toughness to three times and more. Another, in the numerical values not expressed, but much more significant advantage of the after Mixtures 1 to 3 made in accordance with the invention is the much better distribution of the resin. The vulcanizates of mixtures 1 to 3 sii d translucent with a layer thickness of 2 mm. The equally thick vulcanizates Mixture 4, on the other hand, contains numerous small and very small grains which make them matt and opaque do.
Zum Vergleich wird gezeig:, wie sich bei Gleicher Arbeitsweise ein mit Cashcw-Niißschalenöl modifizierter Phenolnovolak (Novolak D) sowie ein entsprechendes Phenolnovolak-1 Icxa met hy leinet ra-Mixtures 5 and 6 were produced according to the invention and show the behavior of a simple phenol-free phenol (Novolak Π, Schniel / inlcrvall about 75 to 83 C) and a Krcsolnovolak (Novolak, Schmel / inte.-vall about 108 to 118 r C). For comparison it is shown: how a phenol novolak modified with Cashcw nut shell oil (Novolak D) and a corresponding phenol novolak-1 Icxa met hy leinet ra-

4 "min mixture (resin DIl). Novolak D and resin DH were produced according to US Pat. No. 25 32 374, Example 6. The cashew nut shell oil used here was purified with sulfuric acid.
Mixtures 5 to 8 were prepared in the manner described in Example 1.

In the case of the rubber sole used here, surprisingly with the smaller amount of hexamylethylene tetrainine, a significantly better EITckl, i.e. H. higher vulcanizate hardness and better notch toughness achieved.

Die Spannungswerte bei 100, 200 und 300",,, betrugen 18, 30 und etwa 50 Kp/cm2.A resin-free mixture produced for comparison with had a hardness of 70 "Shore A. The strength was 28 to 31 Kp / cm. The tension values at 100, 200 and 300" were 18, 30 and about 50 Kp / cm 2 .
The mixtures were produced as follows: The rubber was first processed on the roller and then mixed in the hexamethylenetetramine. The mixture was homogenized in the usual way. The stearic acid and zinc oxide were then added. Then the diethylene glycol and added the active silica. The novolak resin and sulfur were then placed on top to. In the course of the addition of the mixture components, the mixture temperature rose to HOC. The mixture was cooled from this finding temperature to at least 80 C. This was followed by one after the other the vulcanization accelerators, namely diphenylgianidine and the zinc salt \ on2-mercaptobenzothiazole, added. The total mixing time was 25 minutes.
