in perfekter Übereinstimmung liegen.

the dynamic .working conditions of the tress has been made, results in a very fast set-up in which the two tool plates are in perfect alignment. Fig. 9 shows the set-up of the press in the process of transferring the die plate to the support cylinder, and Fig. 10 shows the action of the cutting and notching elements on a piece of cardboard 180 placed in between. In practice, it has been found that a double-sided pressure-sensitive cellophane tape, which is applied to the back of the overlying die plate acts as a very satisfactory dedium to effect the transfer and adhesion of this plate to the support end or opposite press part. This mating tool transfer method is also applicable to presses that have a flat support plate or a rotating support cylinder, since the metal tool plate can be made thin enough to be flexible enough to conform to either a flat or curved surface is designed to be firmly adhered to both types of press mile and will adhere to it under all normal press working conditions. The low pressures and the resulting light weight of the tool plate make it possible to maintain their adherent position in absolutely precise correspondence on the support cylinder of a press even when working at high rotational speeds. Of course, if the plate is to be glued to a flat face part, it need not be so thin that it can be easily bent. As a general rule it can be said that the thickness of the tool parts or plates of this invention depends not only on the particular type of press with which they are to be used, but also on the caliber and type of cardboard or other sheet material which is being cut or should be notched. The tool parts or panels of the present invention are useful in cutting and scoring uncoated paperboard as well as with a variety of protective and decorative coatings such as baking, varnishes, polymeric materials, for example. Polyolefins and various polymerized vinyl compounds, coated cardboard, are effective. The practical minimum thickness of the tool plates is about 0.13 mm larger than the height of the notching and cutting elements i- = b = -r the etched background. For example, when cutting and folding cardboard with a thickness of 0.25 mm, the overall tool plate thickness will only be about 0.33 mm. For cutting and scoring cardboard 0.032 mm thick, the total tool plate thickness will be in the range above about 0.5 mm, and plate thicknesses of about 0.66 mm are satisfactory for making tools for cutting and scoring 0.66 mm thick cardboard, whereby in each case an etched depth is assumed which corresponds to approximately $ 0. $ times the thickness of the treated cardboard. Similar relationships exist with cardboard with-other-thicknesses. The tools produced by this process have proven that they can cut thin sheet metal as well as cardboard satisfactorily individual templates with a furnitur block, with a maximum board thickness of 1.02 mm being able to deliver cutting and notching elements with the best possible dimensions for all normal operations, even with very heavy cardboard material. In general, from the standpoint of economy and usability, it is desirable to use die plates whose thickness is close to the minimum. The very thin plates of the invention are sufficiently light in weight to be adhesively attached to either flat or cylindrical press parts without the need for clamps or screws. A preferred operation is to clamp each of the die plates onto the outer surface of a cylindrical milling member as shown in FIG. In Fig. 11, the cooperating cylindrical press parts 11 and 12 have cooperating dies 13 and 14 of this invention clamped on their surfaces. These tools work on a piece of tappe 15 that lies in between; the leading edge of the tap is held by a gripping device 16 in the cylinder 11 carrying the card. Of course, when the cooperating positive and negative die plates of this invention are each clamped to a cylindrical press member, they must be shaped so that they will not slip out of register when bent around cylinders of the same diameter. This can be achieved by removing non-functional portions of the tool to even out the cross-sectional areas of the tools. If the tools have practically the same cross-sectional area, any shifting of the tool plates will remain practically the same so that they remain in register. The non-functional portions of the tool can be removed by etching or other suitable methods such as mechanical or chemical milling. The light weight and flexibility of the products of this invention are of particular value in presses in which at least one of the main working parts is a rotating cylinder. Tool plates that are to rest on flat surfaces can be of greater thickness, since flexibility is not important in this case, and it may be appropriate to use plates with a thickness of 12.7 mm to 25.4 mm and more Use or the thickness of a thinner 'urerkzeugplatte by gluing a base made of metal, plastic, wood or the like. To increase. : For presses that combine a plate part for a flat bed with a cylindrical part, it is often convenient to use the one die plate with minimum or almost minimum thickness on the cylinder and a slightly thicker matching tool plate on the flat bed where the Flexibility does not matter.
Is applied negatively. The holes can then be drilled at exactly the same point in each panel using the photographically applied indicia on the panels to locate the holes. When appropriate, tool elements can be etched directly onto the surface of a pair of metal cylinders of the same diameter rather than onto thin flexible plates.
To achieve effectiveness in cutting and notching operations for the specific type and caliber of cardboard material that is to be processed into cardboard blanks. Since the tool elements are furthermore assembled photographically, any number of tool plates can be produced which are absolutely identical. This perfect reproducibility of the notch plates represents a very important advantage of the present invention. It has been found that the height of the positive verb element, the width of the positive verb element, the width of the groove in the negative notch element and the depth of the negative verb element are factors all of which influence the quality of a notch that is shown in a cardboard sheet by # elL'.These factors also relate to the specific type and caliber of the cardboard or other sheet (-! elt @: n sheet in cardboard, the height h in height 1 2 of the positive notch element 161 should be in the range from 0.13 nm to 0.5.3 cm above the @derkze @.! ltter @ lin-hel ° - @

The most favorable height of the positive notch element is 0.8 times the thickness of the cardboard material. The most favorable height h of the positive notch element for notching cardboard with a thickness of 0.25 mm is, for example, 0.203 mm, with cardboard with 0.432 mm thickness about 0.39 mm and with cardboard 0.66 mm thick about 0.558 mm. The width w in FIG. 12 of the positive notch element 161 can be in the range equal to 0.5 to 2.0 times the thickness of the paperboard, the most favorable width being between about 0.8 to 1.2 times the cardboard thickness. Satisfactory results have been obtained when the width k of the groove between the paired raised portions 161a and 161b of the negative notch member is in the range of about 2.0 to 4.0 times the thickness of the treated paperboard, the 2.5-3 , 5 times the thickness that is Optimm. This groove width corresponds to the width w of the positive notch element 161 plus 1.5 to 2.5 times the thickness of the cardboard material. The depth d of the groove between the raised sections 161a and 161b can ideally be in the range of approximately 0.5 to 1.5 times the thickness of the cardboard material or even slightly deeper, although.-_.-. greater depth offers no additional benefit. The negative depth of the ri @: ia üiven groove should preferably be at least equal to the height h of the positive notch element 161, the vertical gap v between the plates (i.e. the smallest vertical distance between the raised portions of the positive die plate and the raised portions of the negative die plate when the press is compressing) has a significant impact on the operation of the cutting elements. Another closely related factor is the horizontal gap g or the lateral distance between the cooperating cutting edges 181 and 182 of a pair of cutting members 171 and 171a, one integral with the positive tooling plate and the other with the negative tooling plate consists. It has been found that in order to obtain satisfactorily clean and precise cut lines in the paperboard material using the cutting tools of the invention it is necessary that the horizontal gap g between the cutting edges 181 and 182 of the cutting portions be no greater than about 20% of the thickness of the paperboard material is as shown in Fig. 12, the best cutting conditions being when the cutting parts overlap to a small degree, as shown in Fig. 12a, which degree of overlap should normally not exceed about 50 j of the paperboard material thickness. if the overlap is too large, the par @ p material can only be compressed and not cut. That is, if the cardboard is 0.25 mm di'ek and is to be cut and notched, the horizontal gap g between the cutting parts in the working position in the press should be in the range between -0.13 mm (which is a combined overlap of the cutting parts means around 0.13 mm) and +0.05 mm. To cut 0.4 mm thick cardboard, the horizontal e. Gap between -0.203 and +0.076 mm. The appropriate gap range for cutting cardboard with a thickness of 0.63 mm is between -0.3 and +0.13 mm; and a corresponding reference will have to be calculated for cardboard of other thicknesses. The vertical gap v between the positive and negative die plates when the press terminates in the compressing position can range from a slight overlap which gives a good smooth cut to a positive opdlt of up to 50 t,; @, the Thickness of the cardboard material to be cut; ls re_-i-ehez.

each cutting edge overlaps the actually required cutting line by 0.025 to 0.05 mm.
