Description
Process for obtaining pure, concentrated hydrofluoric acid solution Hydrofluoric acid, as hydrofluoric acid is called for the sake of brevity, is the starting material for the production of many other fluorine compounds, such as of sodium sulfofluoride, ammonium fluoride, aluminum fluoride or hydrogen fluoride. In most cases this is feasible and economical Process determining the purity and concentration of the hydrofluoric acid.
Silicate hydrofluoric acid falls in significant quantities when the rock phosphates are dissolved with mineral acids, especially in superphosphate production or evaporation dilute phosphoric acid solutions. Especially those preserved in the latter case Solutions of hydrofluoric acid are too dilute and practical for further processing always polluted - so that they had to be discarded.
The behavior of hydrofluoric acid in distillation is very complicated. From the work before. E. Bau in the Ber. 36, 4215 (1903) it is known that the vapor of silicofluoric acid is almost completely converted to hydrogen fluoride and silicon tetrafluoride breaks down. It is also known that depending on the concentration the boiling hydrofluoric acid, the steam hydrogen fluoride and silicon tetrafluoride in a variable relationship to each other. Hydrofluoric acid with a concentration below 13% by weight gives a distillate which is richer in hydrogen fluoride is than the formula H2SiF6, eire more concentrated than 13% by weight gives a distillate which is poorer in hydrogen fluoride. aside from that water and hydrofluoric acid form an azeotrope with a maximum boiling point of about 45 wt.% H2SiF6, so that the rectification of a more dilute acid than this one Enrichment of this acid in the bottom of the column results.
Surprisingly, it has now been found that the boiling behavior of the Hydrofluoric acid changes fundamentally when the distillation according to the invention in Presence of phosphoric acid, H3 P04, is carried out and the acid mixture is up a boiling point of no less than around 120o C is maintained. this happens practically by adjusting the concentration of the phosphoric acid solution placed in the evaporator with a constant inflow of silicofluoric acid. Example 1s In one off Polypropylene existing evaporator, which is made of silver, with steam flowing through it Snake is heated. becomes a phosphoric acid solution with a boiling point of around 120 ° C (around 65% by weight, ", 113P04). Hydrofluoric acid solution of around 10% by weight H2SiF6 is continuously added in such an amount that the boiling point of the phosphorus. acid is kept at around 120o C during the distillation @. It becomes a clear one Distillate which, like the hydrofluoric acid used, contains around 10% by weight of H2SiF6 contains. The liquid level in the evaporator remains constant during the experiment. An analysis of the contents of the evaporator gives 64.2% by weight 113 PO4 and 3.3% by weight F. A initially low silica. Separation in the cooler condensate will soon stop. From this it is found that hydrofluoric acid in the presence of phosphoric acid from about 60 to 65% by weight distilled congruently and does not form an azeotrope with water.
When the boiling point of the acid mixture by more dilute phosphoric acid with a constant amount of liquid or with too rapid addition of dilute hydrofluoric acid is lowered to 115o C, the vaporizer content shows after or at ongoing distillation before a phosphoric acid content, only 49.1 wt.% H3 P0 [ and accordingly the residue of fluorine also increases to 6.5% by weight.
Der Inhalt des Verdampfers nimmt dabei ständig zu.0 A further lowering of the boiling temperature to 110 C results after a distillation of 10 parts by volume of hydrofluoric acid containing 10% by weight of H2SiF6 in the presence 1 volume of phosphoric acid is a concentration of the evaporator content of 35.5% by weight; 24 11-, PO4 and an increase in the amount that can no longer be distilled off of fluorine to 9.1% by weight o. In the downstream cooler condensed a liquid that contains large amounts of precipitated silica. The content of the evaporator is constantly increasing.
Non-evaporable impurities contained in the dilute hydrofluoric acid, such as phosphoric acid, gypsum, etc., accumulate in the evaporator and must be continuously or periodically removed therefrom.
Ammoniumfluorid, Aluminiumfluorid u.a.. Im anderen Falle wird die Silikofluoridlösung-getrennt
abgezogen.
