The present invention now relates to a process for the production of an organically modified, synthetic mineral of the hectorite type by combining a solution containing magnesium ions and an alkaline sodium silicate solution in an aqueous preparation containing lithium and fluorine ions, so that atomic ratios in the range of Si / F = 0.5 to 5.1; Li / Mg = 0.1 to 1.0; Si / (Mg + Li) = 0.5 to 1.5; Na / (2 Mg + F-Li) = 1 are present to 2, and heating the reaction mixture with stirring until a sample of this product after filtering, washing and drying at 110 0 C to constant weight at 5 ° / o strength dispersion in water Form a gel and optionally washing, dehydrating and heating the reaction product to about 110 to 450 0 C according to patent 1184 742, which is characterized in that the reaction product - optionally before the reaction product is heated to about 110 to 450 0 C, namely immediately before or after washing and dewatering - is reacted in the aqueous medium with vigorous mixing with an organic amine salt capable of forming exchangeable organic cations and having a carbon chain containing at least 10, in particular 18, carbon atoms.
The present method represents a further development of the method according to German Patent 1,184,742 represent.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the amine salt is in an amount of 0.9 to 2.2, preferably 1.7 to 1.8 molar equivalents are used.
Als Aminsalz wird vorzugsweise Dimethyldioctadecylammoniumhalogenid
verwendet.
Dimethyldioctadecylammonium halide is preferably used as the amine salt.
As already mentioned above, the reaction with the amine salt can also be carried out after the hydrothermal treatment has ended, but before the heat treatment mentioned, ie drying, to temperatures of about 110 to 450 ° C., the synthetic clay-mineral product taking the form an aqueous slurry or a wet cake-like mass. For example, when the process is completed before the washing and dewatering stages, the product is obtained as a slurry, while when the process is completed later it is obtained as a wet, cake-like mass. If in the latter case the drainage consists in a filtration, then the product is in the usual filter cake form.
Weiter wird die Verfahrens-It is useful to dilute the various ingredients used to form the slurry be used such that after hydrothermal treatment the product is present in amounts of 1 to 8, preferably 4 percent by weight. The procedural
ufe der Kombination der Bestandteile vorzugsweise
Der einen Zeitraum von 4 bis 6 Stunden durchgeführt;
.mmonium, organisches Phosphonium, organisches tibonium, organisches Arsonium, organisches Oxoium,
organisches Sulfonium.
Trimethyloctadecylammonium, Dodecylamionium, Hexadecylammonium, Octadecylammonium,
■ ioctadecylmorpholinium, l-Propyl-2-octadecylimidajlinium
. 'The combination of the constituents is preferably carried out for a period of 4 to 6 hours; Finally, it is also preferred to extend the hydromechanical treatment over a period of from 1 to 12 hours.
Although the product does not have the useful, aqueous gelling properties of the heat-treated product before the heat treatment jf about 110 to 450 0 C, both products have a very smokable property, namely the ability to form organic adducts, which have undesirable organophilic properties.
The present invention thus provides new synthetic clay-mineral adducts, which are the new clay-minerals of the general form given above which have been modified so that at least some of the exchangeable kaons are composed of one or more organic cations capable of are to enter into a base exchange reaction with the synthetic "one" and to give it an organophilic nature.
Preferably, at least the greater part of the exchangeable cations consists of the organic cations mentioned. Examples of organic compounds or salts thereof from which such ions may be derived can be found under the agendas classes: organic ammonium, organic phosphonium, organic tibonium, organic arsonium, organic oxoium, organic sulfonium.
In general, as far as the present invention is concerned, the nitrogen-based cations, ie the organic ammonium salts, are of primary importance. For example, this class of compounds includes the salts (including quaternary salts) of primary, secondary and tertiary amines, including the mono-, di-, tri- and polyamides, as well as aliphatic, aromatic, cyclic and heterocyclic amines and substituted Derivatives thereof, other mono- or polyvalent compounds which are of particular value for the present invention, are compounds which can be regarded as tertiary amines which have a single alkyl group and two polyoxyethylene groups linked to the nitrogen atom.
The organic radical present is a chain of at least 10 carbon atoms, preferably at least 12 and advantageously 18.
Specific examples of suitable organic mmonium cations are: Dimethyldioctadecylamionium, Trimethyloctadecylammonium, Dodecylamionium, hexadecylammonium, octadecylammonium, ■ ioctadecylmorpholinium, l-propyl-2-octadecylimidajlinium and bis (2-hydroxyethyl) -octadecylammonirri. These can be used alone or in combination to produce an organosilicate with the desired properties.
If substantially complete end cation exchange is desired, it is preferred to use 0.9 to 4 equivalents of the organic cation. . '
The product can be washed, drained and dried using the usual process steps separated and then finally, if desired, ■ grind.
The method described above can be used as a starting material use the heat-treated synthetic 3n. Since the reaction takes place in an aqueous Medium is carried out, it is undoubtedly advantageous to use the aqueous slurry or cake-like mass without heat treatment. It is also possible to carry out the clay synthesis in the presence of the organic compound, whereby the organic adduct is formed directly.
The clays modified by cations according to the invention have oleophilic and gelling properties, which make them useful materials in the manufacture of lubricating greases.
B. wetted the dimethyldioctadecylammonium adduct in powder form with an alcohol and then dispersed in a fat-based oil, for example a light spindle oil. The mixture is stirred, passed through a suitable mill and finally centrifuged to remove entrapped air bubbles. The resulting product has the properties of a lubricating grease.
Optionally, a slurry or em
Filter cake of the organic adduct is dispersed in the oil and the water is distilled with it for example toluene removed, the excess toluene being removed at the end. The product will treated as described.
In all cases, such amounts of the organic adduct are employed that there will be about 5 to 10 weight percent of the same in the final grease.
In one modification, a lubricating grease can be made by preparing the organic adduct in situ in a medium containing the desired oil, such as a light spindle oil.
Dies ist speziell dann der Fall, wenn bisIn addition, when the cation-modified clay has been made using an organic Material having a chain of at least 18 carbon atoms and in such an amount if at least 1.5 equivalents of the cation is produced, the clay has special characteristics. This is especially the case when up
zu 2,2 Äquivalente verwendet werden, wobei die bevorzugten Mengen bei 1,7 bis 1,8 liegen.2.2 equivalents can be used, the preferred amounts being 1.7 to 1.8.
As a result of using 1.5 or more equivalents in the product are essentially present all exchangeable cations as organic cations. The remaining ones used in the reaction Cations (e.g. 50% or greater excess) are retained by the clay. The In contrast, the anion of the organic compound is not retained.
(Verbindungen, welcheX-ray diffraction analysis of the product showed an i / 001 distance of 38 ± 3 Å. Exhaustive extraction with an organic solvent can remove the excess from the clay.
Sie sind natürlich Organosole mit einer dispersen Phase von im wesentlichen anorganischem Gehalt, Wenn das Organosol mit Wasser und einer wäßrigen Lösung gemischt und geschütteltOrganic products with this d ool distance and the organic deposits mentioned have the extraordinarily useful property of forming organosols with liquid aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, in particular with petroleum ether, benzene, toluene and xylene.
