In general, the toughness of a steel decreases with increasing strength, regardless of which one Way the strength increase is achieved. Furthermore hates that result in improved corrosion resistance often cause harm to others Material properties. In addition, a steel with good Toughness at the same time a good one, which is evident in the elongation values and the constriction in the tensile test Ductility, which the other way round is not the case »
For example, the tensile strength of a steel with a 0.2 ^ yield strength of about 105 to 141 kg / mm relatively unimportant, since the design calculations are generally based on the yield point. Yet the ratio of yield point to tensile strength should not be less than 0.9.
The importance of toughness arises from the fact that a steel is capable of a given yield point should be able to absorb a certain minimum of impact energy
Für die Kerbschlagversuche müssen gekerbte Proben benutzt werden, da die an glatten Proben ermittelten Yersuchsergebnisse0 beer, i.e. a steel with a yield strength of 105 kg / mm should have a notched impact strength (according to Charpy) of at least 9.7 kgm, with a yield point of 112 kg / mm of at least 8.3 kgm and a notched impact strength at a yield strength of 120 kg / mm -on have at least 6.9 kgm. Notched specimens must be used for the impact tests, because the test results determined on smooth samples

In addition, the minimum impact strength must also for a flat specimen with a thickness of about 12 mm or show more, as samples from a billet or wire usually give higher values. After all, one should only be in In one direction of rolled steel, the axis of the specimens run transversely to the direction of rolling because it lies in the direction of rolling Specimens often lead to higher impact strengths.
With a yield strength of. 105 kg / mm, the steel should have an elongation of at least 50vj, preferably of at least $ 20 with a necking of at least 60 / t own.
In addition, such a steel should have good resistance to a wide variety of corrosive media, especially against stress corrosion cracking in the case of unusual Have an ironing sample in a maritime atmosphere. In this experiment it was found that similar, but not steels covered by the invention are more susceptible to stress corrosion cracking tended.
Schließlieh sollte es möglich sein, die Stähle in Luft zu erschmelzen und durch ■ einfache Verfahrensmaßna'nmen die gewünschte Eigensehaftskonbination au erreichen, unter anderem durch Lösungsglühen und Aushärten, ohne Kaltverformung oder Tieftemperaturbehandlung sowie ohne Zwischenglühen, d.h. ohne Verfaiirensmsiinahmen, die zu einer Ko s t e η e rh ö hung führ en.Ultimately, it should be possible to melt the steels in the air and through simple process measures achieve the desired combination of properties, including solution heat treatment and hardening, without cold deformation or low-temperature treatment as well as without intermediate annealing, i.e. without process steps leading to a Costs increase.

None of the known steels fully satisfies the aforementioned requirements. So are alloy steels with low Carbon content not sufficiently resistant to corrosion and tend to be quenched as required for strength to severe warping or warping.
Austenitische rostfreie Stähle wie beispielsweise die 11AISI 3OO"-Stähle sind zwar sehr korrosionsbeständig und zäh, besitzen jedoch nur eine geringe Streckgrenze von bei-Austenitic stainless steels such as the 11 AISI 3OO "steels are very corrosion-resistant and tough, but have only a low yield point of both

Common contaminants of the proposed steel include sulfur, phosphorus, hydrogen, Oxygen and nitrogen, the contents of which should, however, be as low as possible. Among the essentials for the proposed steel Elements, the chromium content should not be below 8.75 # and preferably at least 9 #, or better still at least $ 9.75 to give the steel adequate corrosion resistance to rent. Molybdenum helps improve corrosion resistance, but it also has a good effect. The rolling temperature is 980 to 1095 ° C with a final temperature of 815 to 925 0 C.
After hot rolling, the steel alloy is preferably solution annealed at a temperature which is sufficiently high to achieve recrystallization of the rolled structure. This temperature is 760 to 925 ° C, with a holding time of up to 4 hours being sufficient 1040 G or more, but such high annealing temperatures are not to be recommended, since grain coarsening with an increase in sensitivity to stress corrosion can occur. Solution annealing is not essential, but is recommended because of the good results that can be achieved. Cooling to room temperature after the solution treatment leads to a complete conversion of the structure to martensite; so that neither a low-temperature treatment nor a special heat treatment is required, although such special treatments can easily be used. Rather, after a solution heat treatment, in view of the desired mechanical properties, all that is required is a simple hardening of 1 to 24 hours at 425 to 54O 0 C, longer annealing times at low temperatures being required. Hardening at temperatures above 54O 0 C can lead to an undesirable conversion of the structure back to austenite. Hardening at 455 to 510 c C, for example at 480 0 C., is particularly favorable.

The test results in Table II clearly show the excellent combination of strength and toughness of the steels according to the invention in comparison with the conventional steels A to D. Thus, the steel A has $ 12 Chromium and $ 0.047 carbon have a low yield strength while the steel 1 according to the invention despite a by 14 kg / mm higher yield strength, a notched impact strength of about 4 kgm higher owns
Of course, it is not sufficient to just add the chromium content of the known martensite-hardenable steels raise.
The values determined on steel C, in particular its notched bottom toughness of only 0.28 kgm, show the extremely harmful influence of high aluminum contents and prove the fact that a 'good elongation not necessarily with a corresponding tenacity " ,connected is·

'all containers for the hydrolysis to be called. For test purposes, a metal sheet from the Suahl 8 was hung in a hydrolysis container and then exposed to a hydrogen atmosphere of 40O 0 C and a pressure of 0.7 kg / mm for 500 hours. The sheet metal was then examined at room temperature in order to determine in particular the degree of its hydrogen embrittlement in the notched impact test. It was found that the yield strength of the sample increased to 1 O kg / mm and the tensile strength increased to 144 kg / mm. The elongation of the sheet metal sample was $ 10 and the necking was 42%. The notched impact strength resulting from the average of three notched impact tests was 5.4 kgm. The appearance of the sample was also excellent. Thus, this experiment proves that alloy 8 is extremely well suited for the above-mentioned application. In this context, it should be pointed out that the conventional : hydrolysis containers have a yield strength of about / "- 70 kg / mm with a notched impact strength before use of 2.1 kgm · In addition, the containers are generally chalked to 3chu ¥ zir 'against corrosion with a stainless steel'] "- :: m: Such a lining leads to a considerable ^^ '' * wall thickness and thus to an increase "'in heat losses. When using the proposed steel, however, such wall thicknesses and heat losses do not occur. '
