Pie Erfindung betrifft ein neues Verfahren zur Herstellung von Hydroxypivalinsäureestern (ot,<*r-Dimethyl-phydroxypropionsäureestern).
Solche Ester können als Ausgangsmaterial für die Herstellung von Polyesterfasern aus Pivalolaoton
sowie als Bestandteile von Esterschmiermitteln und
Alkydharzen verwendet werden.
An sich ist die Hydroformylierung von Methacrylsäureeatern
schon bekannt. So beschrieben Falbe, Huppee und Körte in Chemische Berichte 97 (1964, S. 866), dass bei der
Hydroformylierung von Methacrylsäure-methylester in Gegenwart eines Koba^ltketalysators 51$^CrMetal-y-butyrolac ton er~
halten wurden, während 4256 des Ausgangsmaterials zu Isobutterafture-methyleeter
hydriert wurden. Bei dieser Reaktion werden

62 (194-8)298 veröffentlichten Regeln, dass bei Hydroformylierungen
keine quaternären Kohlenstoffatome gebildet werden.
Es wurde nun gefunden, dass unter bestimmten Reaktionsbedingungen trotzdem eine^Hydroformylierung des Methacryl
säureester stattfindet unter Bildung tinee quaternären -<<
Kohlenstoffatoms.

Hydroxypivalinsäureesters ist dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass man
einen Methacrylsäureester bei Temperaturen'zwischen 80 und 13^0
insbesondere zwischen 80 und 1200C, und einem Druck von wenigstens
100 at in Gegenwart eines rhoäiuf#|fc&tig«n Katalysators
hydroformyliert, und das anfallende Hy^roformylierungsprodukt
anschliessend zum HydroxypivalinsäureeetW hydriert..,.- . ■ . ,

Der üethacrylsäureester ist vorzugsweise c— ^cter
eines niedermolekularen Allionols mit nicht mehr als "-j Kohlenstoff
atomen," insbesondere Methacrylsäuremethylester, ^ie Erfindung
ist jedoch ebenfalls anwendbar auf andere Ector dor Zothacrylsäure, wie Eutyl-., Octyl-, lauryl- und CyCIoI-C^yI-ecter.
In dem zur Hydroformylierung verwendeten L::v.-.w-csga3
kann das molare Verhältnis zwischen Kohlenmonoxid -...w
Y.rasserstoff zwischen 2:1 und 1:4 liegen, wie zun Beic^id
1:1* Der Druck des Gases beträgt'wenigstens 100 at, inabccondcro
wenigstens 350 at. Der Maximaldruck wird aufgrund praktischer Ueberlegungen, wie des zulässigen Aütoklavodrucks,
gewählt und beträgt zum Beispiel 2000 at. Die Kydroformylierung
kann man in etwa 1 bis 30 Stunden zu Ende· führen.
Das Verfahren wird vorzugsweise in Gegcnwai-. i.nes
inerten Lösungsmittels vorgenommen. Geeignete LÖsun/;c;.u"-vel
sind zum Beispiel Benzol, loluol, Cyclohexan, Diphenylether
u.dgl. Das Gewichtsvjerhältnis zwischen Löoungcniittcl
und Methacrylsäureester liegt zweokmäsaigerweiee swiicL:.-^

Zur Hydrierung des so erhaltenen EydrofornylierungG-produktea
kann man ca vorher von Katalysator und Iöcjurj;c-

In Beispiel 27 wurde der Autoklav nach beendeter Hydroformylieren (durch Gaschroaatoßraphie von Proben ^cststellbar)
abgekühlt und entspannt, das Lösungsmittel abdcstilliert
und das Hydroformylierungsprodukt fraktioniert destilliert·

Die Abhängigkeit der Ausbeute vom Hydroforaiylierungsdruck
Äceht aus den folgenden Beispielen hervor. Man
hydroformylierte 100 ·£ Kethacrylsäuremethylester in 400 £
Benzol und arbeitete dann den ö^-Porraylisobuttersäuremethylester
wie Üblich auf. Bei den Beispielen 47 bis 50
v/urde bei 8O0O mit 0,U Sh^O« hydroformyliert, bei den Beispielen
51 bis 55 bei 120-130°G mit 0,1 £ Eh3O3 + 2,5 s
2ributylpnosphin. Die Ausbeuten an d -Pormylisobutteraäuremothylester

Claims (8)
1. Verfahren zur Herstellung von Hydroxypivalinsäureestern,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß man einen Methacrylsäureester bei Temperaturen zwischen 80 und 135°ö und einem Druck
von wenigstens 100 at in Gegenwart eines rhodiumhaltigen Katalysators
hydroformyliert und das anfallende Hydroformylierungsprodukt
anschließend zum Hydroxypivalinsäureester hydriert.
2. Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
man "bei der Hydroformylierung in Gegenwart einer organischen
dreiwertigen Phosphorverbindung arbeitet.
3· Verfahren nach Anspruch 2, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
man eine Phosphorverbindung verwendet, die drei Phosphor-Kohlenstoffbindungen
aufweist.
4. Verfahren nach Anspruch 3, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß
man als Phosphorverbindung ein Trialkylphosphin verwendet.
5. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 2 bis 4, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß man die Phosphorverbindung in einer Menge von 0,1 bis 20 Gew.-%, bezogen auf Methacrylsäureester, einsetzt.
6. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5» dadurch.
gekennzeichnet, daß man den rhodiumhaltigen Katalysator in einer Menge von 0,0004 bis 0,004 Grammatomen Rhodium je Mol des Methacrylsäureester
verwendet.
7. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 "bis 6, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß man "Rhodiums esquioxyd als Katalysator verwendet.
8. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 7i dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß man den Katalysator auf einem ü?räger anwen-

det, wobei der rliodiumlialtige Katalysator in einer Menge von
1 Ms 40 &ew.-$ des (Erägers anwesend ist.
9» Yerfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 Ms 8, dadurch
gekennzeichnet, daß man als Ausgangsmaterial einen Methacrylsäureester
verwendet, dessen"AUcanolteil nicht mehr als drei
Kohlenstoffatome aufweist.
