The invention relates to a comparative photometer according to claim 3 of patent application J 27868 IXa / 42 h (German Auslegeschrift 1 260 179), in which the brightness of two light sources in a common Field of vision can be compared, the two fixed structural patterns in mutual intertwining has, each of which is illuminated separately by the light from one of the two light sources and which superimposed define a composite pattern, the respective configuration of which is dependent of the brightnesses of the two light sources is variable, and with devices to change the relative brightnesses of the two light sources are provided and each of the two Pattern has such a structure that at a given ratio of the brightnesses of the two Light sources (adjustment) in superimposition a clearly recognizable symbol on an evenly bright Background occurs, while deviating from the specified ratio as a result of a confusing Overlay structure the symbol is not recognizable, and the arrangement is made in such a way that that the overlay structure as a background for a low-contrast symbol in the plane of the overlay structure serves.
This design of the comparison photometer according to the main patent application achieves that as an indication of the achievement of a given ratio of the two to be compared Brightnesses, d. H. for the comparison, a symbol recognizable for the user appears clearly occurs, d. H. that the achievement of the predetermined state for the user by a positively emerging effect in the form of the recognizable symbol. This represents represents a significant advantage over the known comparative photometers, in which ultimately always on the disappearance or on the least possible recognizability of one due to the different Brightnesses given overlay structure is turned off.
In the main patent application, the formation of the overlay structure comes from two separate ones Carriers of physically intended structural patterns in the two beam paths to be compared, for example in the form of blackening structures, polarization structures or color structures, come about, each with the light from one or from the other of the two with each other to be illuminated for comparative brightnesses and held in appropriate alignment to each other are that when superimposed the combined

The photometer 10 is accidentally Pattern made of light-reflecting material binding with two independent light sources 11 resp. which uses a predetermined structure pattern in the sense of FIG. 12, which is used as a scene light source or reference main patent application, while those from the light-light source are denoted. As essential parts of reflective material existing parts of the 5, the photometer has next to the lamp 12 a Ge pattern, which from the front with the light of the other field of view lens 13, an adjustable variable aperture light source are illuminated and this in the direction of the device 14, a converging lens 15, a Difauf reflecting the viewer, the other pre-fusor 16, a carrying device 17 and an eyepiece 18 bene structural pattern in the sense of the main patent application. Patterns appear against the background created by the diffuser 16 in the interstices of the Pattern of incident light is formed.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the carrier 24 has as display variables Index symbol "YES" in the form of a slight blackening tone, while the pattern 29 has a regular one Checkerboard arrangement with the symbol "NO" 31 represents. Of course you can however, any other display index symbol may be used and the reflective Pattern could have an irregular or random configuration. It is essential for the pattern that it obscures and obscures the index except under the conditions set out below have to do. For the reasons explained below, it is essential for the index that it is in opposite the pattern, when it is uniformly illuminated, has distinct blackening tones.
The pattern 29 appears dark against a light background when that comes from the diffuser 16 and light passing through the spaces 30 of the elements of the pattern is brighter than that from the elements of the pattern reflected light of the light source 12 is. In this case, appears for the viewer the display "NO", and the index symbol "YES" is due to the confusing background or. Not noticeable underground. Is the light coming from the source 11 through the diaphragm device 14 so weakened that the diffuser 16 through the interstices of the pattern emerging light is less bright than the light reflected from the elements of the pattern Light source 12 is, the pattern appears light against a dark background. Also appears here "NO" is displayed to the viewer, and the index symbol is obscured and unrecognizable. At a certain middle position of the diaphragm 14, the brightness of the through the spaces The light emerging from the pattern is equal to the brightness of the light reflected from the pattern (photometric Balance state), and the pattern disappears for the observer, as the entire field of view is illuminated uniformly and uniformly, with the exception of the index "YES", which is now becomes clearly perceptible, as the index as a result of its weakening of the one coming from the background Light less bright than the background appears. Because the eye is slightly different in brightness Able to resolve between adjacent surfaces, even a slight photometric effect brings Inequality of the background pattern on which the index symbol is superimposed for the Viewer reappeared. The term »clearly perceptible« therefore refers to a state in which the index symbol in front of one is uniformly and uniformly illuminated Background appears, d. H. to a state in which there is no impression of a pattern.
That position of the diaphragm device 14 in which the opening 19 is just so large that the Index symbol is clearly perceptible is functionally related to the average or average brightness of the scene 11 if the brightness of the lamp 12 is kept constant. The position of the diaphragm device can thus be used to display the average or mean Scene brightness can be calibrated such that the described device according to the invention as a Exposure meter can serve. Alternatively, the device can be built directly into a camera when the position of the diaphragm to form the exposure value of the shutter device the camera is being used.
The carriers 23 and 24 can expediently be designed in the form of thin, translucent foils, which can therefore be placed directly on top of each other in a simple manner. Because of this, in that For example, assume that the lamp 12 illuminates the pattern 29 through the carrier 24; However, it should be emphasized that of course the mutual arrangement of the films and the Lamp 12 only needs to meet the only criterion that the lamp is at least reflective Illuminated pattern. However, the use of separate supports is not necessary and the index symbol can be applied directly to the pattern 29 will. In addition, the support device 23 can be omitted if the pattern and the index symbol are attached to the diffuser 16, and on that surface of the diffuser which is used in the above-mentioned manner to achieve opposed to a scattering of the light incident from the scene specially treated surface. As for the sequence of the carriers 23 and 24, it is preferable that the one with the Carriers provided with an index symbol are arranged in the manner shown between the viewer and the diffuser is. Otherwise the index symbol would be replaced by es overlapping part of the reflection pattern is somewhat obscured.
