Die Möglichkeit, Wasser in Lösungen von ungesättigten Polyestern in mit Wasser nicht mischbaren
Lösungsmitteln zu umgekehrten Emulsionen einzuemulgieren, ist aus der Auslegeschrift 1150 524 bekannt.
Dieses Verfahren arbeitet ohne Verwendung von in der Ölphase löslichen Emulgiermitteln. Es hat
sich jedoch gezeigt, daß ohne Verwendung solcher Hilfsmittel sich nur umgekehrte Emulsionen mit
relativ geringen Wassergehalten herstellen lassen, die bei 50 bis etwa 200 °/o, bezogen auf Ölphase der umgekehrten
Emulsion, liegen.
Erfindungsgegenstand ist die Verwendung von Derivaten von Polyestern aus zweiwertigen oder dreiwertigen
Alkoholen und zweibasischen oder dreibasischen Carbonsäuren mit Molgewichten von 500
bis 10 000, die über ihre endständigen Hydroxyl- und/oder Carboxylgruppen direkt oder indirekt PoIyalkylenoxydreste
mit Molgewichten von 400 bis 10 000 gebunden enthalten, als in der Ölphase lösliche
Emulgiermittel zur Herstellung von Wasser-in-Öl-Emulsionen, deren Ölphasen Polyester und/oder polymerisierbare
Monomere und/oder inerte organische Lösungsmittel enthalten.
Die genannten Polyesterderivate leiten sich von Polyestern mit einem Molgewicht von 500 bis 10 000,
vorzugsweise 1000 bis 5500 ab, während die PoIyalkylenoxydreste ein Molgewicht von 400 bis 10 000,
vorzugsweise 1000 bis 4000 besitzen.
Die Polyalkylenoxydreste sind an die Hydroxyl- und/oder Carboxylgruppen der Polyester entweder
direkt, vorzugsweise aber indirekt über mehrfunktionelle Bindeglieder gebunden.
Die als Ausgangskomponente für die Herstellung der Emulgiermittel eingesetzten Polyester sollen nicht
wasserlöslich sein, keine nennenswerten oberflächenaktiven Eigenschaften aufweisen und in monomeren
flüssigen Vinylverbindungen, insbesondere Styrol, löslich sein. Die letztgenannte Eigenschaft ist insbesondere
dann erforderlich, wenn in der Ölphase der umgekehrten Emulsionen ungesättigte Polyester zusammen mit
monomeren Vinylverbindungen eingesetzt werden, die anschließend miteinander polymerisiert werden sollen.
Die zur Herstellung der umgekehrt emulgierend wirkenden Verbindungen verwendeten Polyalkylenoxyde
sollen Molgewichte von 400 bis 10 000 haben, bevorzugt 1000 bis 4000, und wasserlöslich sein. Demzufolge
kommen bevorzugt Polyäthylenoxyde, gegebenenfalls auch einseitig umgesetzte, etwa verätherte
oder veresterte Polyäthylenoxyde, sofern ihre PoIyalkylenoxydkette
das geforderte Molgewicht hat und die Produkte wasserlöslich sind, in Betracht. Es sind
jedoch auch Polyalkylenoxydcopolymere geeignet, so-Derivate von Polyestern als Emulgiermittel

fern sie den genannten Bedingungen entsprechen, wie Propylenoxyd-Äthylenoxyd-Mischpolymere mit Propylenoxydgehalten
unter 50 Molprozent.
Die direkte Einführung der Polyalkylenoxydreste in die Polyester kann, wie üblich, durch Anlagerung von
Alkylenoxyden an die OH- oder COOH-Gruppen der Polyester durch saure oder bevorzugt basische Katalyse
vorgenommen werden. Dazu werden die Polyester beispielsweise in Gegenwart von Pyridin oder als
Alkalisalz bzw. -alkoholat mit den Alkyloxyden gegebenenfalls unter Druck umgesetzt.
Die Ölphase besteht aus einem bei Raumtemperatur flüssigen Polyester beliebigen Molgewichts oder aus
Lösungen von Polyestern in mit Wasser praktisch nicht löslichen Lösungsmitteln. Diese können wie die
Polyester selbst gesättigt oder ungesättigt sein, d. h. auch radikalisch polymerisierbare Verbindungen darstellen.
Solche Lösungsmittel sind etwa Ester, wie Essigsäureäthylester, Glykolmonomethylätheracetat,
Vinylacetat, -propionat, (Meth-)Acrylester, etwa Me-
thylmethacrylat, Äthyl- oder Butylacrylat, Halogenkohlenwasserstoffe,
wie Tetrachlorkohlenstoff, Peroder Trichloräthylen, Vinylidenchlorid, Aromaten wie
Benzol, Toluol, Xylol, Styrol, Divinylbenzol.
An die in der Ölphase enthaltenen Polyester sind die gleichen Anforderungen zu stellen wie an die als Ausgangsmaterial für die Herstellung der Emulgierhilfsmittel dienenden Polyester. Für ihre mögliche Zusammensetzung gilt ebenfalls das oben Gesagte.
Für den Polyestergehalt der ölphase bestehen prinzipiell keine Beschränkungen, er kann zwischen 0 und 100 % minus Emulgierhilf smittel variieren. Es ist aber als Vorteil des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens anzusehen, daß der Polyestergehalt der Ölphase über 30% liegen kann, ohne daß eine Unverträglichkeit mit dem Emulgierhilfsmittel beobachtet wird.
An die in der Ölphase enthaltenen Polyester sind die gleichen Anforderungen zu stellen wie an die als Ausgangsmaterial für die Herstellung der Emulgierhilfsmittel dienenden Polyester. Für ihre mögliche Zusammensetzung gilt ebenfalls das oben Gesagte.
Für den Polyestergehalt der ölphase bestehen prinzipiell keine Beschränkungen, er kann zwischen 0 und 100 % minus Emulgierhilf smittel variieren. Es ist aber als Vorteil des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens anzusehen, daß der Polyestergehalt der Ölphase über 30% liegen kann, ohne daß eine Unverträglichkeit mit dem Emulgierhilfsmittel beobachtet wird.
In die ölphase können vor oder nach dem Emulgierprozeß,
sofern sie einer radikalischen Polymerisation

unterworfen werden soll und dementsprechend radikalisch polymerisierbare Verbindungen enthält, noch
Polymerisationsaktivatoren eingebracht werden. Diese Aktivatoren können übliche peroxydische, stickstoffhaltige
oder Metallverbindungen sein. Sie sind in den deutschen Auslegeschriften 1148 382, 1160 616 ausführlich
beschrieben.
In die das erfindungsgemäße Emulgierhilfsmittel enthaltende Ölphase wird zur Herstellung der umgekehrten
Emulsion unter Rühren die Wasserphase eingebracht. Hierbei ist darauf zu achten, daß die
Wasserphase vorsichtig, möglichst anteilweise eingetragen wird, damit eine umgekehrte Emulsion
entsteht. Es hat sich nämlich gezeigt, daß bei höherviskosen ölphasen die Einarbeitung der Wasserphase
bisweilen auf mechanische Schwierigkeiten stößt, weil die Wasserphase bei steigender Viskosität der
umgekehrten Emulsion zunehmend langsamer aufgenommen wird. Hierbei kann ein zu hoher Überschuß
an noch nicht in das System einemulgierter Wasserphase die Scherkräfte innerhalb der gerührten
Masse so stark vermindern, daß eine Auftrennung des zu emulgierenden Systems in Wasserphase und
Phase aus umgekehrter Emulsion mit geringerem Wassergehalt als erwünscht erfolgt.
Die Wasserphase kann aus reinem Wasser oder wäßrigen Lösungen oder Suspensionen bestehen. Sie
kann bis zu 60 Gewichtsprozent an organischen wasserlöslichen Verbindungen, wie Methanol, Glykol,
Glyzerin, Triäthanolamin, oder Salzen, wie Natriumacetat, Ammoniumborat, CaCl2, Natriumsilikat, Bleiacetat
oder Kalium- bzw. Ammoniumpersulfat, enthalten; auch hohe Zusätze an Phosphorsäure oder
Kieselsäure können in der Wasserphase enthalten sein. Im allgemeinen werden die genannten Zusätze zur
Wasserphase natürlich in geringen Mengen angewandt werden, etwa wenn es sich um Polymerisationsaktivatoren
handelt. Außerdem ist die Beeinflussung der Stabilität der umgekehrten Emulsion durch die
Zusätze zur Wasserphase bei verschiedenen Ölphasen verschieden, so daß im Einzelfalle ermittelt werden
muß, welche Zusätze und welche Mengen dieser Zusätze die Bildung der umgekehrten Emulsion noch
nicht verhindern.
Die umgekehrten Emulsionen können 10 bis 1500, bevorzugt 50 bis 500 Volumprozent Wasserphase
(bezogen auf ölphase) enthalten. Die zusätzliche Einarbeitung von Festkörpern, speziell bei polymerisierbaren
Emulsionen, vor dem Polymerisationsprozeß ist möglich. Hierbei sind Fasern oder Gewebe
auf anorganischer oder organischer Basis besonders gut geeignet.
Ein Zusatz von löslichen oder Pigmentfarbstoffen zur Wasser- oder Ölphase der umgekehrten Emulsionen
ermöglicht die Erzielung spezieller Effekte.
Die umgekehrten Emulsionen können als Schmiermittel, als hydraulische Flüssigkeiten oder im Falle,
daß die umgekehrten Emulsionen radikalisch polymerisierbare Verbindungen enthalten, zur Herstellung
von Polymerisaten aus umgekehrter Emulsion dienen.
Für die aufgeführten Beispiele werden zur Erläuterung der Verschiedenartigkeit der als Ausgangsmaterial für
die Herstellung der Emulgierhilfsmittel einsetzbaren Polyestertypen folgende Polyester verwendet:

Die unter Verwendung von Maleinsäure bzw. Maleinsäureanhydrid hergestellten Polyester haben zum Teil
eine Umlagerung in Fumarsäuretypen erfahren.

verschiedene Kombinationen zusammengefaßt:

Zur Durchführung der Reaktion wird das Polyalkylenoxyd im Polyester bzw. in der Polyesterlösung unter
Erwärmen gelöst bzw. suspendiert. Dann fügt man das Isocyanat hinzu und rührt mehrere Stunden bei erhöhter
Temperatur. In allen Fällen werden lösliche viskose bis wachsweiche Produkte erhalten, die mit Polyestern des
Typs A bis K gut verträglich sind.
Die umgekehrte Emulgierwirkung der Verfahrensprodukte sei im folgenden erläutert:

Zur Herstellung der umgekehrten Emulsion wird 65 Sichtsmaßnahmen in die vorgelegte Ölphase eingerührt,
zunächst das Emulgierhilfsmittel im Polyester bzw. Das Verfahren ist natürlich auch auf andere Polyesterin
der Polyesterlösung gelöst und dann das Wasser typen anwendbar, sofern diese den genannten Beunter
den im vorhergehenden Text erläuterten Vor- dingungen entsprechen. Beispielsweise läßt sich
Versuch 26 auch mit den Polyestertypen B, C, D, E, G durchführen. In allen Fällen werden stabile sahneartige
umgekehrte Emulsionen erhalten. Das läßt sich nachprüfen an der Tatsache, daß sich ein Tropfen der
Emulsion nicht in Wasser verteilt, sondern sich wie ein Öltropfen verhält, d. h. kein Wasser aufnimmt.
Die Möglichkeit zur Polymerisation geeigneter umgekehrter Emulsionen, die mit HiHe der verfahrensgemäßen
Emulgierhilfsmittel hergestellt wurden, erläutern die folgenden Beispiele:
In eine Lösung, bestehend aus 50 Teilen Polyester J, 60 Teilen Styrol, 10 Teilen Emulgator gemäß Beispiel
3 und 25Teilen Benzoylperoxyd, werden 350Teile H2O einemulgiert. Anschließend werden in die stabile
sahnige umgekehrte Emulsion noch 1,5 Teile N-Dimethyl-p-toluidin
eingerührt. Sodann wird die Emulsion in eine Becherform gefüllt, wo sie bei Raum- ao
temperatur über Nacht aushärtet.
In eine Lösung, bestehend aus 40 Teilen Polyester J,
70 Teilen Methylmethacrylat, 8 Teilen Emulgator gemäß Beispiel 8 und 2 Teilen Azodiisobutyronitril,
werden 500 Teile Wasser vorsichtig einemulgiert. Die sahnige und stabile umgekehrte Emulsion läßt sich
bei 65° C zu einer wasserhaltigen festen Polymerisatmasse härten.
10 Teile eines Anlagerungsproduktes von 20 Mol Äthylenoxyd an dem Polyester A werden zusammen
mit 90 Teilen Polyester H in 70 Teilen Styrol gelöst. In diese Lösung lassen sich je nach Bedarf 10 bis 300 Teile
H2O zu einer stabilen, sahnigen, umgekehrten Emulsion einrühren. Fügt man der organischen Phase vor dem
Emulgierprozeß noch 1,5 Teile Lauroylperoxyd hinzu, läßt sich die umgekehrte Emulsion bei 50 bis 75° C
zu festen Polymerisatblöcken härten.
Claims (1)
- Patentanspruch:Verwendung von Derivaten von Polyestern aus zweiwertigen oder dreiwertigen Alkoholen und zweibasischen oder dreibasischen Carbonsäuren mit Molgewichten von 500 bis 10 000, die über ihre endständigen Hydroxyl- und/oder Carboxylgruppen direkt oder indirekt Polyalkylenoxydreste mit Molgewichten von 400 bis 10 000 gebunden enthalten, als in der ölphase lösliche Emulgiermittel zur Herstellung von Wasser-in-Öl-Emulsionen, deren Ölphasen Polyester und/oder polymerisierbare Monomere und/oder inerte organische Lösungsmittel enthalten.
