The material possesses im generally a strongly sintered structure with small particles of a ceramic material that are uniform are distributed in the metal structure. This material develops when exposed to high temperatures is exposed, microscopic pores at the grain boundaries, if it does not already have them, which allows the ceramic material to escape either in liquid or vapor form Phase allowed, whereby the structure is cooled and at a temperature below that of the surroundings is held. This phenomenon is called "microtranspiration" by the inventor. Apparently this phenomenon is a physical one and can occur in any metal-ceramic material be present, provided that the ceramic material melts at a temperature which is below that at which the sintered metal structure melts, and. further provided that the metal-ceramic material has pores or

Materials bei Hochtemperaturbeanspruchung gestatten.
sind daher für die meisten Anwendungsgebiete ungeeignet. that allow the escape of a vaporized, ionized or liquefied ceramic material. The ceramic material must also be one which does not form slag with the metal structure, does not bond with it or otherwise attack it, so that neither its melting temperature is lowered nor the strength of the metal structure is impaired in any way. As a particularly preferred embodiment of such a material, a composition consisting of tungsten and a ceramic material was formed according to the invention, which is subject to a lower grain coarsening during sintering than pure tungsten and which can be sintered at relatively low sintering temperatures to a density above 90 ° / o of the theoretical density. So that the material can be sintered at relatively low temperatures, a small amount of nickel, iron or cobalt is used as a sintering aid. Iron and cobalt act as sintering aids when they are finely divided throughout the tungsten. Nickel even penetrates the tungsten during sintering and is therefore the preferred sintering aid. The amount of sintering aid used can greatly affect the sintered texture of the tungsten that is achieved. Amounts down to 0.10 percent by weight of nickel, for example, favor the sintering of the tungsten. If the percentage of nickel used is increased above 3 percent by weight, the structure begins to re-soften due to the formation of a sintered nickel bond between the tungsten particles. For this reason, the sintering aid used must not exceed a percentage of 3% of the tungsten content expressed in percent by weight, or the connection between the tungsten particles changes into a nikkei-like connection and melts at too low a temperature in view of the uses under the extremely severe conditions for which the materials are intended according to the invention. Cobalt and iron generally act in the same way as nickel, so that the weight ratio of the sintering aid to tungsten is 0.1 to 3% and preferably less than 1.0%, most advantageously 0.5%. When the starting material has been sintered to a high degree of impermeability, the sintering aid melts at the grain boundaries and opens pores, which allow the ceramic material access to the surface of the metal-ceramic material and allow the melted or vaporized ceramic material to escape under high-temperature stress.
As already indicated, the ceramic material used must not react in any way with the structural metal tungsten, which would lead to a reduction in its strength, and it must melt at temperatures below the melting point of the tungsten in order to produce the required cooling effect. In the sintered material according to the invention, which consists of tungsten and ceramic material in addition to the sintering aid, the ceramic material is a metal oxide from the group of beryllium oxide, aluminum oxide and magnesium oxide, which is present in the material in amounts of 10 to 50 percent by volume. The suitability of these oxides is due to their generally low melting point and because they do not form a low melting point eutectic with tungsten, as is the case with most carbides and nitrides. The oxides have a further advantageous feature, they easily oxidize the tungsten to its oxides, whereby a WO 2 is mainly formed as tungsten oxide, which migrates to the fired surface of the material. Ceramic substances, which form a eutectic with a low melting point or otherwise react with the tungsten, obviously soften the structure and are therefore unsuitable for most areas of application.
The ceramic oxides beryllium, aluminum and magnesia generally have lower melting points and higher vapor pressures than the nitrides and carbides. They can be melted and vaporized. The following table shows the various properties of these oxides and the amounts of heat in Kcal / cm 3 that are absorbed at the various temperature increases and transformation stages in a material with a density of 100%. The best information obtained so far is that out of ten alumina molecules, one dissociates at a temperature just above its melting point.

If the temperature used is high enough to melt and vaporize beryllium oxide, then it can be seen that its use has the advantage of being light in weight and having a high theoretical heat of vaporization. Using temperatures of about 2770 ° C, alumina gives essentially as good results as beryllium oxide, although alumina has a lower theoretical total heat of vaporization because the alumina has a lower melting point and therefore a larger percentage will evaporate. The third to last line of the table shows the additional heat that would be absorbed if the generated vapor dissociated into an ionized metal and ionized oxygen atoms. The last line of the graph shows the heat absorbed by the reduction of the ceramic material by tungsten to its metal, the tungsten being converted into the subliming WO 2 .
Wenn sich die Menge des keramischen MaterialsIn general, the cooling effect generated by the ceramic material is increased when the amount of the ceramic material is increased. With amounts of ceramic material, the less than 10 percent by volume of the composition of the metal-ceramic sintered material according to the invention the cooling effect is assumed to be too low to be of any economic importance be. When the amount of ceramic material

In contrast to this, in the case of the material according to the invention, the not more than 3% of the tungsten content, expressed as a percentage by weight, of nickel, iron or Contains cobalt as a sintering aid that maintains the structural formation even at temperatures, which are above the melting point of nickel and reach up to the melting point of tungsten can.
Das Titan soll nicht unbedingt die Dichte des während des Sinterns erhal-In certain cases, titanium can be used as a deoxidizing agent for the metal-ceramic according to the invention Sintered material are added, in amounts of 0.5 to 6 percent by volume before the sintering is carried out to help remove any free oxygen that may be present could combine with the tungsten and retard its sintering. ao tenen Gefüges erhöhen, hat jedoch die Neigung, dieses zu tun. Dieser Werkstoff kann außerdem 0,5 bis 6 Volumprozent an Titan als Des-ao tenen structure, but has a tendency to do so to do. Titanium also has a tendency to alloy itself with the nickel and thereby during distribution of the nickel in the metal structure. A preferred composition according to the invention therefore consists of 50 to 89.5 percent by volume tungsten, 10 to 49 percent by volume of the ceramic material and 0.5 to 6 percent by volume Nickel as a sintering aid. This material can also contain 0.5 to 6 percent by volume of titanium as a des-

Währendincreases, then the amount of metal decreases what an oxidizing agent contains. Weakening of the resulting structure with it rocket nozzles, which brings from sinter according to the invention. In general, a lot more materials have been produced, after 50 percent by volume of the ceramic material they are clearly superior to those produced from a transition of the tungsten into the non-cohesive other materials, the up to a few phases and thus draws a melting and 35 have now been tested. This also includes the erosion of the entire metal-ceramic work - graphite nozzles and nozzles made of pure tungsten material. The material according to US Pat. No. 2,952,903 is such a metal-ceramic sintered material; According to the patent claim of this patent specification, it is composed of 22% magnesium oxide, 70% tungsten and 8% nickel, calculated in percent by weight. It will not retain its shape when exposed to temperatures in excess of the melting point of the ceramic material, with 15 volume percent being generally the preferred range and ranges of about 25 volume percent being the most desirable ranges. The decisive difference between the material described in the said USA patent and the material according to the invention lies in the nickel content. The reasons for this can be explained as follows: As already mentioned above, the content of nickel as a sintering aid should not exceed 3 percent by weight of the tungsten, otherwise nickel will be continuously formed between the 55 tungsten particles during sintering and when heated to the melting point of the nickel this melting nickel bond between the tungsten particles causes a structural change in the material. In the United States patent, the material with the lowest nickel-tungsten ratio is specified under Example 2. The amount of nickel is then about 4.5 percent by weight of the tungsten. As indicated in column 1, line 51 of this patent specification, nickel and tungsten 65 are used. The flame was designated as a bin-aluminized, solid fuel by burning 28.1 kg in this metal-ceramic sintered material. If this material is heated via the melting »Hercules« in a chamber with a temperature through which the nickel can penetrate, an apparent cutting pressure of 42.18 kg / cm 2 must be generated. While

A similarly prepared nozzle with an opening of 6.35 mm was tested for 60 seconds in a flame formed from kerosene and oxygen with a constant temperature of about 3000 ° C. 76,9% Wolfram,76.9% tungsten,
0,9% Nickel,0.9% nickel,
1,6% Titan,
20,6 % Aluminiumoxyd.1.6% titanium,
20.6% alumina.
In a test in the non-oxidizing flame according to Example 1 at about 3705 ° C for a period of 43 seconds, no erosion was found, and when exposed to the oxidizing flame formed from petroleum and oxygen according to Example 1 at about 3000 ° C a result Erosion rate of 2.54 x 10 ~ 4 mm / sec.
Another nozzle orifice liner was made from a mixture having the following weight percentages manufactured:
95 % Wolfram von einer Sollgröße von 3 Mikron,95% tungsten of a nominal size of 3 microns,
4,0% Magnesium- 1 in einer Partikelgröße, die4.0% magnesium-1 in a particle size that
oxy I etwa einer Siebmaschenweite ox y I about a sieve mesh size
0,5 % Nickel J von 0,044 mm entspricht.Corresponds to 0.5% nickel J of 0.044 mm.
0,5% Titan in einer Partikelgröße, die etwa einer Siebmaschenweite von 0,074 mm entspricht.0.5% titanium with a particle size that corresponds approximately to a sieve mesh size of 0.074 mm.
Diese Gewichtsprozentwerte ergeben bei Umrechnung in Volumprozent die folgenden Werte:The above mixture was hydrostatically pressed at 1406 kg / cm 2 and sintered in hydrogen at a temperature of about 1760 ° C. for 1 hour. These percentages by weight result in the following values when converted into percentages by volume:
74,5% Wolfram,74.5% tungsten,
0,9% Nickel,
1,6% Titan,
23,0 % Magnesiumoxyd.0.9% nickel,
1.6% titanium,
23.0% magnesium oxide.
This resulted in a ίο nozzle formed of kerosene and oxygen flame as in Example 1, a degree of erosion of 38.1 x 10 ~ 4 mm / sec.
der reinen Wolframprobe anzeigt sowie diejeni-The temperature of the nozzle body cannot be registered with the aid of a thermocouple, and no other means has yet been found to accurately measure the temperatures which are reached in a nozzle when it is fired. In the nozzle designs that were tested, only the orifice liners were made of sintered material and, in many cases, the liners were again enclosed by graphite. In these explanations it has been found that a considerable amount of tungsten carbide is produced on the outside of a nozzle opening liner made of pure tungsten in the area of graphite, while in the case of the liners made of the metal-ceramic sintered material based on tungsten according to the invention according to the above examples, essentially no tungsten carbide is formed . Since the tungsten carbide forms quickly at temperatures above 2475 ° C, it can be seen that the metal-ceramic nozzles are cooled to a temperature not significantly higher than 2475 ° C by ablation.
F i g. 3 shows a graphical representation of the composition of a nozzle after firing which was prepared and tested in a manner similar to that given in Example 1. FIG. It can be seen that a significant percentage of the ceramic material has disappeared to a depth of 6.3 mm from the affected surface, while the composition of the remainder of the inner part of the liner has remained essentially unchanged. The change in composition can also be perceived in the photographic image shown in FIG. As evidence of evaporation, traces of aluminum oxide have been found in the separating sections of the metal-ceramic nozzles, which contain the aluminum oxide. The nozzles made of metal-ceramic sintered material according to the invention have also shown lower melting effects, which were generated by the flame itself, than is the case with pure tungsten nozzles, so that it is very evident that the nozzles made of metal-ceramic sintered material according to the invention do not Reach high body temperature when firing, as is the case with pure tungsten or graphite nozzles. As shown in FIG. 3, the oxide-ceramic component of the metal-ceramic sintered material according to the invention has been removed without changing the shape of the strong structural skeleton of the tungsten, or without causing any significant erosion of the exposed area. F i g. 4 shows a graphic representation which was made on the basis of information determined with a computer and which shows the temperatures at the exposed and the rear sides of the pure tungsten sample as well as those
