In order to achieve a higher elasticity and impact resistance of the polystyrene, rubber-elastic ones have hitherto been used Added substances. So z. B. Rolled together polystyrene with natural or synthetic rubber. The results are unsatisfactory. The impact resistance is hardly improved, the compatibility of components is low. Other attempts with polystyrene or its copolymers were also successful based on the idea that an elastic component must be used to make the mixed product to make it resistant to knocks and shocks. In the German patent specification 883 645, the use of an "elastic polymer", in German Auslegeschrift 1 053 779 that of an "elastic Component "(Col. 8, line 33), in US Pat. No. 2,835,646 that of a" rubber-elastic Polymers «. The German Auslegeschrift 1 059 179 describes the polymerization together of natural rubber with styrene. British patent 745 901 describes the rolling together of Polystyrene with natural rubber. U.S. Patent 2,652,384 also reports only normal rubber types Polymers.
All previously known methods have in common that they, in order to achieve ever processable products that require a significant pretreatment of the rubbery component, either by mastication on the hot (150 to 18O 0 C) roller for 60 to 90 minutes, or by other heat treatment after Addition of crosslinking substances (terpolymers) (German Auslegeschrift 1053 779) or by adding compounds to the latex and heating. If such a subsequent treatment is not applied to the polystyrenes plasticized with rubbers, they are difficult or impossible to process. Objects deformed in the heat shrink and develop a torn, rough surface. During extrusion, the emerging strands bend.
The subject of the invention are polystyrene molding compounds which contain 95 to 55 percent by weight of a copolymer of styrene and acrylonitrile and 5 to 45 percent by weight of a copolymer of butadiene and Acrylic esters contain and are characterized in that the butadiene copolymer is reacted of the monomers has been obtained at over 90 percent by weight.
Für die erfindungsgemäßen Massen hat sich gerade ein hoher Umsatz, der bisher in der Technik Polystyrolformmassen mit verbesserter Schlagfestigkeit Previously, to produce rubber-like polymers, an early interruption of the polymerization, e.g. B. at 55% or at 70 to 80 ° / 0 conversion necessary. For the compositions according to the invention, there has just been a high conversion compared to polystyrene molding compositions with improved impact resistance in the art

Only when sales exceed 90% do they change the properties of the butadiene copolymer in such a way that the elastic properties almost disappear completely and the product looks more like a thermoplastic plastic. So it makes up on that With two or three passes, roll a smooth,
as nicht schrumpfendes Fell. The rebound resilience is extremely low, the elastic elongation is about 10 0 / o> above this, the material begins to flow. The butadiene copolymers vulcanized in the usual way are hard, without rebound resilience, have low tear strength and low elongation at break (30 to 50% versus 500 to 600% in the case of the low conversion polymers). Such products are useless for the rubber industry and are therefore not manufactured commercially.
Die Menge des Zusatzpolymerisats hängt von dem Grad der Schlagfestigkeit ab, den man erreichen will;
The amount of additional polymer depends on the degree of impact resistance that one wants to achieve; it is 5 to 45%. With about 35% butadiene polymer, the notched impact strength reaches values of 80 to 100 kg cm / cm 2 . A practically non-fragile material is obtained in this way, while the commercially available products of a similar type and composition with normally rubber-elastic materials do not exceed 40 kg cm / cm 2.
The two components are mixed according to the customary methods, it being possible for fillers, dyes or stabilizers to be incorporated as well. The products can also be produced in emulsion form and mixed with one another in the form of latex and the mixture can be dried by known methods. The polystyrene or styrene-nitrile polymer can be produced in suspension or block polymerization.
