The olefins which are gaseous at atmospheric pressure, such as propylene and the isomeric butylenes, are known to pass through Conversion of strong mineral acids, such as sulfuric acid, into the corresponding alkyl esters, which are used in the Hydrolysis will provide the corresponding alcohols. In this process, which is generally carried out under pressure the hydration, which can, however, also be carried out at normal pressure, results in undesirable formation By-products that can be traced back to ether formation and polymerization processes. The work-up these by-products to chemically pure substances is with a great expense of technical Aids connected.
Such by-products are the polymers of the C 3 or C 4 olefins or the copolymers of these olefins and the ethers of the alcohols corresponding to the olefins, for example the di-sec-butyl ether and the diisopropyl ether. In the course of the hydration process, the polymers and ethers are separated off and are present as a mixture which, depending on how the alcohol synthesis is carried out, consists of di-sec-butyl ether, diisopropyl ether and the polymers of the olefins, the C 4 polymers being im essentially a mixture of the isomeric di-n-butylenes (C 8 H 16 ) which boil between 108 and 122 ° C.
The invention relates to a process for the production of pure di-sec-butyl ether from a mixture of diisopropyl ether, di-sec-butyl ether and polymers of the C 3 - obtained during the hydration of C 3 and / or C 4 olefins. and / or C 4 olefins. The process can also be used when the hydration process is carried out in such a way that no diisopropyl ether is present in the ether polymerization mixture.
Chemically pure di-sec-butyl ether is used as a solvent and as a starting material for chemical reactions considerable interest. It can only be used in the customary work-up by distillation from the mixtures mentioned can be obtained from columns with high selectivity. In addition, the yield is pure di-sec-butyl ether very low, as the boiling points of some dimeric butylenes match the boiling point of di-sec-butyl ether are only a fraction of a degree different.
Das abgezogene Äther-Wasser-Gemisch wird VerfahrenIt is known that the crude ethers obtained during alcohol synthesis, which contain water, alcohols, polymers and small amounts of aldehydes or ketones, can first be fractionally distilled for purification and then treated with adsorbents. In this known method an ether-water mixture is distilled off from the Rohäther, wherein the distillation zone wire fed such an amount of water 1 that a sufficient solubility ratio for the existing water-soluble impurities is added to the distillation zone. The ether-water mixture withdrawn becomes process

Es wurde nun überraschenderweise gefunden, daß unter Zusatz von Methanol eine destillative Trennung des bei 1220C siedenden Di-sek.-butyläthers von den polymerenIt has now surprisingly been found that the addition of methanol separation by distillation of the fraction boiling at 122 0 C Di-sec-butyläthers polymers of the
Während Äthanol, i-Propanol und sek.-Butanol für die Durchführung des Verfahrens nicht in gleich vorteil-C 3 and / or C 4 olefins with columns with a small number of plates is possible, the presence of diisopropyl ether not interfering with the implementation of the process. While ethanol, i-propanol and sec-butanol are not equally advantageous for carrying out the process.
Eine derartige Siedepunktserniedrigung um 6O0C erleichtert selbstverständlich bedeutend die destillativemanner are suitable, methanol is an azeotropic mixture, for example boiling in the particular case of the boiling 108-122 0 C of olefins butylene, at 62 0 C. Such a boiling point reduction by 6O 0 C facilitates course significantly by distillation
Trennung. Since, as could also be determined, methanol with di-sec-butyl ether and with diisopropyl ether forms a binary mixture in each case, the addition of the amount of methanol is to be measured in such a way that the diisopropyl ether with methanol as the azeotropic mixture first
Wird eine wesentlicher Überschuß an Methanol zugegeben, so folgt als dritte Fraktion das azeotrope Gemisch Methanol—-Di-sek.-butyläther, bevor der reine Di-sek.-butylätherFraction is separated and the azeotropic mixture of methanol and polymer passes over as the second fraction. Will a substantial excess of methanol is added, the third fraction is the azeotropic mixture of methanol - di-sec-butyl ether, before the pure di-sec-butyl ether
It is advisable to work so that the methanol and polymer in a volume ratio of 3: 1 to 1.5: 1, preferably 2: 1, and an amount of methanol is also present which corresponds to a volume ratio Diisopropyl ether to methanol = 3: 1 to

2:1, vorzugsweise 2,5 : 1, entspricht. Of course, the process for obtaining the pure di-sec-butyl ether can be used can also be carried out continuously by using selective distillation, if only the specified volume ratios of the components involved in the process are observed. The selective distillation is expediently carried out with a product from which the diisopropyl ether has already been removed. While at the top of the column the azeotropic mixture of methanol and polymer is withdrawn, then polymer-free pure di-sec-butyl ether is obtained in the bottom.
The following working examples show the advantages of the process for obtaining the pure di-sec-butyl ether.
Eine Analyse ergibt für die einzelnen Fraktionen folgende Polymerisatgehalte:If an ether polymer mixture, which in addition to 13.6% polymer essentially di-sec-butyl ether contains, on a bubble-cap tray column with sixty theoretical plates under a reflux ratio of 1: 25 distilled, a boiling curve is obtained which can be seen in Fig. 1. Accordingly, with fraction 7, only 27% of the di-sec-butyl ether contained in the ether polymer mixture was obtained obtained as a chemically pure product, while 30.8% of the di-sec-butyl ether used had a polymer content from 0.5 to 1%.
If the distillation is carried out at a reflux ratio of 1:10, fraction 6 has a polymer content of 3%, fraction 7 a polymer content of 1.5% and the residue a polymer content of 1.5%, i.e. practically no pure di-sec-butyl ether is obtained.
If, on the other hand, the same ether polymer mixture is added with methanol in the polymer ratio Methanol = 1, 2, 7, the boiling curve shown in Fig. 2 is obtained with a reflux ratio of only 1: 10.

The inventive measure of adding methanol thus enabled 91% of the di-sec-butyl ether used can be obtained as a chemically pure product, its purity by UR spectrum and the usual physico-chemical data have been demonstrated.

It is not possible under these conditions to obtain a chemically pure di-sec-butyl ether. The binary mixtures that occur during the distillation can be found in the following table:
in Volumsettlement
in volume
Würde man an Stelle von Methanol einen anderen Alkohol, wie Äthanol, Propanol oder Isopropanol, anwenden, so erhielte man bei der Aufarbeitung des azeotropen Gemisches Polymerisat—Alkohol eine wäßrige Schicht, ausWhile the binary mixtures of 56-62 0 C boiling pure di-sec-butyl ether has a boiling point of 122 ° C. When using other alcohols, there is a much smaller difference between the boiling point of the di-sec-butyl ether and the binary mixtures occurring during the distillation, which makes the use of methanol particularly favorable. The use of methanol has the further advantage that it is the only alcohol that does not form an azeotropic mixture with water, which is important when separating the polymer gasoline (polymer) from the alcohol. To recover the methanol, about 15% water, based on methanol, is added to the homogeneous azeotropic mixture of polymer and methanol, whereby the layers separate. About 90% of the methanol forms an aqueous layer with the water, from which the methanol can be separated off by simple distillation and used again in the process. If another alcohol, such as ethanol, propanol or isopropanol, were used instead of methanol, an aqueous layer would be obtained when working up the azeotropic mixture of polymer and alcohol
Die Anwendung von wasserhaltigem Alkohol ist jedoch nicht zweckmäßig, da der Di-sek.-butyläther mit Wasser ebenfalls ein azeotropes Gemisch bildet, was zu Verlusten an Di-sek.-butyläther führen würde.which the alcohol would be obtained in the distillation as an azeotropic mixture of alcohol and water. It would be thus an additional dehydration of the recovered alcohol is required. The application of hydrous However, alcohol is not advisable because the di-sec-butyl ether is also an azeotropic with water Mixture forms, which would lead to losses of di-sec-butyl ether.
