Abstract

Making glass powder with time-release antimicrobial action comprising purely inorganic ingredients, in the form of aqueous solutions, or as nanoparticles, comprising processing nanoparticles to a dense suspension in water, forming a colloidal gel that is destabilized by pH adjustment, converting it into a multi-component gel and heating to change this to a glass in powder form, or to a component of a glass product, is new. Making glass powder with time-release antimicrobial action comprising purely-inorganic ingredients, in the form of aqueous solutions, or as nanoparticles, comprises processing nanoparticles to a dense suspension in water, forming a colloidal gel that is destabilized by pH adjustment, converting it into a multi-component gel and heating to change this to a glass in powder form, or to a component of a glass product. During heating, the temperature reaches no more than the glass transition temperature. An independent claim is also included for the antimicrobial glass product.
