Furthermore, the invention relates to a printing form according to claim 10 and a Arrangement for treating a printing layer of a printing form according to claim 12.
Printing forms are used for printing substrates in printing machines. In the case of short print runs, it is advantageous to find the subject of a printing form quickly and to be able to change at low cost.
The printing form has one Semiconductor surface, the surface of the printing form first in one, in Bring essentially the first chemical state with a first wetting property becomes. Subsequently, a partial surface of the semiconductor surface is turned into a second chemical state, which has a second wetting property that of the first is different. The different wetting properties of the surface are used to define ink-absorbing and ink-repellent areas, which the Display printing form. The color-repellent areas that have a hydrophilic surface have, are produced with wet chemical modification processes. By Irradiation with a laser of a suitable wavelength, in particular with a pulsed one Laser, the hydrophilic wetting property can be targeted and local into one hydrophobic wetting property, d. H. into a water-repellent wetting sound convert.
The object of the invention is to provide a further method for producing hydrophobic and hydrophilic surfaces on a printing layer, a printing layer and a Arrangement for the production of hydrophobic and hydrophilic surfaces on one To provide print layer.
The object of the invention is achieved by the method according to the features of Claim 1, by a printing form according to the features of claim 10 and by an arrangement according to the features of claim 12 solved.
An advantage of the invention is that the printing layer is made of polymer. Polymer has a number of advantageous properties. For example, Polymer by a suitable plasma treatment and by an electromagnetic Structure the radiation into hydrophilic or hydrophobic areas. Furthermore can Polymer applied in a thin layer is temperature resistant, hard, chemical and corrosion resistant. Thus, polymer is for use Suitable as a printing layer for a printing form.
Advantageously, the wetting property of polymer by Plasma treatment converted into a hydrophilic wetting property. Subsequently partial areas of the hydrophilic printing layer with an electromagnetic radiation converted into a surface with a hydrophobic property.
Advantageous developments of the invention are in the dependent claims specified.
A simple and inexpensive method for plasma treatment of the printing layer is achieved in that the plasma treatment takes place at atmospheric pressure. So are complex devices for producing a negative pressure are not required. The Plasma treatment at atmospheric pressure is therefore ideal for direct use the press. Consequently, the printing layer can be made without removing the printing form the printing machine again structured into other hydrophobic and hydrophilic surfaces become.
In a preferred embodiment, the electromagnetic radiation is in the form a laser beam is applied to the print layer, preferably a pulsed one Laser beam is used, the pulse duration in the range from pico to femtoseconds lies. By using the laser beam is a precise and fast Structuring of the hydrophobic surfaces enables.
During the production of the plasma, voltages in the range from 10 to 20 kV have been found shown advantageously. Furthermore, the plasma is preferably at a frequency of 15 to 25, preferably generated 20 kHz. The parameters described lead to an efficient one Plasma treatment without damaging the polymer.
Further advantageous properties of the printing layer were obtained in that the Print layer is moved through the plasma at a speed of 1 to 5 m / min. The process is further improved by the addition of process gases reached the plasma. At this rate there is sufficient hydrophilization the print layer reached. By using process gases, the same Speed reached a higher degree of hydrophilization.
The plasma is preferably generated by a barrier discharge. Due to the Barrier discharge gently creates the hydrophilic property of the print layer. In addition, with the barrier discharge, the plasma can also operate efficiently at atmospheric pressure operate.
A structure is advantageously structured into hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces Print layer again exposed to plasma treatment and thus the entire area in converted a hydrophilic surface. Then the hydrophilic surface is again structured by means of electromagnetic radiation in hydrophobic surfaces. In this way a printing layer can be used for the production of various printing forms.
Als besonders vorteilhaft haben sich folgende Polymermaterialien erwiesen: Polyimid (PI), Polyamid (PA), Polystyrol (PS), Polyethylenterephthalat (PET), Polyvinylidendifluorid (PVDF), Polyethylen (PE), Polyethylennaphthalat (PEN), Polycarbonat (PC) und Polypropylen (PP).The following polymer materials have proven to be particularly advantageous: polyimide (PI), Polyamide (PA), polystyrene (PS), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyvinylidene difluoride (PVDF), polyethylene (PE), polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), polycarbonate (PC) and Polypropylene (PP).
A first and a first are preferably used to treat the printing layer with a plasma second electrode is provided, the pressure layer being between the two electrodes is located and the first electrode at least in the area which of the printing layer is facing, is designed as a curved surface, preferably part-cylindrical. Due to the part-cylindrical surface, a plasma discharge on a relatively large Area reached.
The second electrode is preferably designed as a flat surface. Between the second In an advantageous embodiment, the electrode and the pressure layer are insulating layer applied. The first electrode is also preferably with an insulating layer Mistake. As a result, the plasma acting on the printing layer is replaced by a Barrier discharge generated.
In an advantageous embodiment, the printing layer is on a cylindrical Roller applied, the roller being the second electrode and the roller rotatable is stored. In this embodiment, the roller is used during the plasma treatment rotated at a predetermined speed, wherein the first electrode as fixed electrode is formed. This embodiment requires little space and can be used, for example, directly on a printing press.
In a further development of the invention, an electromagnetic one is used as the imaging unit Source of the roller assigned, so that a compact design of the arrangement obtained becomes.
In a further improved embodiment there is a in the region of the first electrode Nozzle for supplying process gas. Process gas can be supplied via the nozzle so that the properties of the resulting plasma depend on the application are changeable.
In a further embodiment of the invention there is a transport device provided that has a flat contact surface, the printing layer on the Support surface is arranged and passing through a constant movement of the support surface is guided on the first electrode. The use of a flat contact surface as Transport device enables the treatment of large areas of a print layer.

Fig. 1 shows a first arrangement for producing a hydrophilic, ie water attracting surface on a printing layer 4. The print layer 4 is made at least partially, preferably over the entire surface, of a polymer. Polyimide, polyamide, polystyrene, polyethylene terephthalate, polyvinylidene difluoride, polyethylene, polyethylene naphthalate, polycarbonate and poly propylene have proven to be preferred polymer materials. In the arrangement shown, the printing layer 4 is placed on a first insulating layer 3 , the insulating layer 3 resting on a second electrode 2 , which is designed as a flat surface.
The printing layer 4 is connected to a transport device 6 , which moves the printing layer 4 past a first electrode 1 at a predetermined speed. In a simple embodiment, the transport device 6 is formed by two rollers, the printing layer 4 being rolled up in the form of a tape on a roller and being rolled over the second electrode 2 onto the second roller. The second electrode 2 is fixed. The first electrode I is arranged in the center of the second electrode 2 at a predetermined distance above the second electrode 2 . The first electrode 1 is preferably completely surrounded by a second insulating layer 7 . The second insulating layer 7 consists, for example, of zirconium dioxide. The second insulating layer 7 preferably has a uniform thickness, so that the surface of the second insulating layer 7 is formed equal to the surface of the first electrode 1 . In the exemplary embodiment shown, the first electrode 1 is in the form of a cylinder and is arranged with the cylinder axis perpendicular to the direction of movement of the printing layer 4 . There is a distance between the surface of the second insulating layer 7 and the printing layer 4 , which is in the range from 0.5 to 5 mm, preferably between 1 and 3 mm. Both the first electrode 1 and the second electrode 2 are connected to a voltage source 5 via electrical lines 8 . The voltage source 5 generates a voltage which is in the range from 10 to 20 kV and has a frequency of 15 to 25 kHz. In the plasma treatment, the printing layer 4 at a predetermined speed of preferably 1 to 5 m / min at the first and the second electrode 1, 2 is moved, the printing layer 4 rests on the second insulating layer 7 and therefore a defined distance between the first electrode 1 and the printing layer 4 and between the printing layer 4 and the second electrode 2 is predetermined.
The arrangement described in FIG. 1 has the advantage that the printing layer 4 can be processed in a continuous process both in the form of piece goods and as sheet goods.
Due to the voltage applied to the two electrodes 1, 2 2, a plasma voltage produced in the region between the two electrodes 1,. Since both the first electrode and the second electrode are covered with an insulating layer 1 , 7 , the plasma is generated by a barrier discharge and thus represents a non-thermal, cold plasma. The non-thermal plasma has electrons, the temperatures from 104 to 105 K. (1 to 10 eV). Neutral particles and ions are at room temperature. The electrons, the neutral particles and the ions can thus only penetrate into the surface of the polymer layer, ie the printing layer 4 . The penetration depth is only a few nanometers. Only the photons generated during the generation of the plasma can penetrate deeper into the surface of the printing layer 4 to approximately 1 μm.
The barrier discharge creates a plasma-like state in which the charge current and the converted energy are limited by the first and second insulating layers. Dielectric materials are preferably used as the first and second insulating layers. A large number of micro-discharges (filaments) of short duration (1 to 10 ns) are generated in the plasma discharge. With this discharge, ions are accelerated only insignificantly, so that the ions continue to have an ambient temperature. The charge current is mainly carried by the electrons. This results in a low process temperature, so that the mechanical and chemical properties of the printing layer 4 are not changed under the penetration depth of the plasma.
FIG. 2 shows a further embodiment of an arrangement which differs essentially in the shape of the second electrode 2 from FIG. 1. In FIG. 2, the second electrode 2 has the shape of a roller with a cylinder jacket on which the second insulating layer 7 and the pressure layer 4 are applied. Furthermore, an imaging system 9 is arranged opposite the first electrode 1 . The second electrode 2 is mounted on the opposite end faces in a rotary bearing. Furthermore, a motor 17 is provided which rotates the electrode 2 around the axis of rotation at an adjustable speed. The imaging system 9 has a source 10 for electromagnetic radiation, the source 10 being arranged to be movable along the longitudinal axis of the second electrode 2 . In a preferred embodiment, a laser source is provided as source 10 , which preferably generates a pulsed laser beam. The pulse duration of the laser beam is preferably in the range from femto to picoseconds.
The embodiment shown in FIG. 2 has the advantage that both the production of a hydrophilic surface on the printing layer 4 and the production of hydrophobic surfaces on the printing layer 4 are possible with one arrangement. In the embodiment of FIG. 2, the printing layer 4 can be arranged as a coating surface on a second insulating layer of a printing form cylinder or as a film on a cylindrical second insulating layer 7 of a printing form cylinder. When the printing layer 4 is treated with the plasma or with the electromagnetic radiation, the printing layer 4 is set into a rotational movement about a central axis of the cylindrical second electrode 2 .
Fig. 3 shows a further advantageous embodiment of the arrangement according to the invention, wherein a nozzle 11 is provided in the region of the first electrode 1 , which is connected to a gas source 12 . The gas source 12 provides process gas with which the properties of the plasma can be changed depending on the application. Air, for example, is preferably provided as the process gas, preferably at a pressure of 1 bar, or oxygen, ozone, ammonia, nitrogen, argon or other gases. In the illustrated embodiment of FIG. 3, the first and second electrodes 1 , 2 are designed as electrode plates arranged opposite one another at a predetermined angle. The nozzle 11 is arranged above the electrodes 1 , 2 and generates a process gas stream which is directed between the electrodes 1 , 2 in the direction of the surface of the printing layer 4 . The cross section of the nozzle 11 is preferably adjustable, or the gas provided by the gas source 12 has an adjustable gas pressure, so that the amount of process gas supplied to the electrodes 1 , 2 can be adjusted.
Figs. 1 to 3 show arrangements with which printing plates described several times and can be deleted. The aim of the invention is to enable reversible imaging of offset printing forms without the need to recoat the printing form. The basic idea is to achieve an increase in the hydrophilic property of the surface of a printing layer on preferably the entire surface of the printing form. The print layer should rest on a base body, which has a preferably moderate electrical conductivity. The increase in the hydrophilic property of the printing layer is generated by a plasma discharge. In principle, the plasma discharge can take place at negative pressure, but preferably at atmospheric pressure. You can work with air as well as with a special process gas.
After a uniform treatment of the entire surface of the print layer in a plasma, the print layer has a highly hydrophilic, ie water-attracting property and is therefore ink-repellent after wetting with water. The hydrophilic printing layer is then subjected to an imaging process in which at least one predetermined partial area of the printing layer is converted into a hydrophobic state. The conversion takes place by the action of electromagnetic radiation on the printing layer 4 . Laser beams are preferably used as electromagnetic radiation. The wavelength of the laser beams and the pulse length or the pulse frequency are adapted to the material of the printing layer, so that a conversion into hydrophobic areas is made possible. A hydrophobic surface is water-repellent, so that the hydrophobic surface is color-attracting after wetting with water.
Fig. 4 shows by way of schematic representation of a Bebilderungszyklus, and an erase cycle, takes place, a printing operation between the imaging and erasing. The diagram shows the states hydrophilic and hydrophobic of the surface of the printing layer 4 as a function of phases. At the beginning of the treatment of the print layer 4 , the print layer 4 has a hydrophobic state. Subsequently, the entire surface of the printing layer 4 is subjected to a plasma treatment during phase A, so that the printing layer 4 is changed from a hydrophobic state to a hydrophilic state. Imaging of the printing layer 4 is then carried out during a phase B. During the imaging, partial areas of the surface of the printing layer 4 are switched from the hydrophilic state to a hydrophobic state. The conversion of the hydrophilic state into the hydrophobic state is preferably carried out by the irradiation of laser light. In phase B, the wetting property of the printing layer 4 is reduced in predetermined surface areas. During imaging, the areas are created that are to take on color in a subsequent printing process. Since not the entire surface is brought back into the hydrophobic state in the exemplary embodiment described, the areas to be printed, ie the hydrophobic areas, and the areas not to be printed, ie the hydrophilic areas, are in the form of a dashed line or in the form of a dot-dash line Line shown. In phase C, the print layer 4 has hydrophilic and hydrophobic areas. In phase C, the printing layer 4 is moistened with water, then inked and, after the superfluous ink has been stripped off, the ink-bearing parts of the printing layer 4 are printed onto a printing material.
Phase C, which is a print job, is typically used for a print job repeated several times until a print job with a different illustration is to be made.
When the print job is completed, the print layer is cleaned in a subsequent phase D. The images are then deleted by a plasma treatment described in phase A. The hydrophobic areas are converted into hydrophilic areas, so that after phase D has ended, essentially the entire surface of the printing layer 4 has a hydrophilic property. After phase D, phase B takes place again, in which the printing layer 4 is imaged according to a different structure.
Phases B, C and D thus represent a cycle that can be repeated. Thus, 4 different print images can be generated with one print layer.
Fig. 5 shows a further embodiment of the method according to the invention, in which the polar groups responsible for the hydrophilic property of the printing layer 4 are completely removed, for example by ablation or chemical treatment. The removal can be combined, for example, with cleaning of the printing form from ink residues.
Phases A, B and C correspond to phases A, B and C of FIG. 4. In phase E, which follows phase C, the polar groups which bring about the hydrophilic property of printing layer 4 are removed by an ablation process or chemical treatment removed. In phase E, the image information applied during the imaging is deleted.
How is the ablation performed and what is the chemical treatment like?
After phase E, essentially the entire surface of the printing layer 4 has a hydrophobic property. After phase E, phase A is carried out again, so that the imaging / erasing cycle comprises phases A, B, C and E.
