Description
The present invention relates to a method and a system for estimating the state of charge of a respective battery cell in a reconfigurable battery, which comprises a plurality of interconnectable battery cells.
In the case of power electronic circuits that have a plurality of energy storage cells or battery cells, precise knowledge of the respective charging states is of great importance in use, for example in order to maximize the service life of the battery cells or for estimating the range of a vehicle with such battery cells as a traction battery. A state of charge of the battery cell, known in English as “State of Charge” (SoC), is defined by a quotient of the amount of charge that can still be removed in the numerator and the nominal capacity of the battery cell in the denominator. The nominal capacity does not represent the value on the data sheet, but rather the actually usable amount of charge. An open-circuit terminal voltage of the battery cell is known in English as “Open Circuit Voltage” (OCV) and is a bijective function of the state of charge, i.e. H. An OCV value can be clearly assigned to each SoC value and vice versa. The steepness of this function depends largely on the cell chemistry used.
Coulomb-counting bezeichnet. The nominal capacity of a battery cell can be determined, for example, by charging it from a minimum voltage, a so-called final discharge voltage, to a maximum voltage, a so-called final charge voltage, and thereby integrating the current flowing through the cell. This process corresponds to the state of the art and corresponds to a charging process according to “CC”, English abbreviation for “constant current”, and CV, English abbreviation for “constant voltage”. If the nominal capacity of the battery cell is known, the easiest method to determine the SoC is to use a reversibility of the OCV curve. By measuring an unloaded and relaxed battery cell, the OCV value can be measured directly at the terminals of this battery cell and the SoC value can be determined from this. However, since in addition to the state of charge, the no-load terminal voltage is also temperature-dependent, with such an approach, several OCV characteristics must be saved for different temperatures for each cell type. After a starting state of charge has been determined once based on the OCV value, a load current through the battery cell is then measured and integrated over time. Calculating the amounts of charge removed or absorbed in this way is generally referred to as coulomb counting or coulomb counting.
If you look at the voltage step response of the battery cell when a current load is applied, two effects become clear: As soon as the current load is applied, the terminal voltage U Bat suddenly drops from the open-circuit terminal voltage Uocv, and then slowly but steadily decreases further as time passes. As soon as there is no longer any current load, a positive voltage jump occurs, which, however, does not immediately reach a value of the original open-circuit terminal voltage, but rather shows a relaxing behavior. However, this disadvantageously means that in an operation with a given switching frequency, at which the respective battery cell is subjected to a charge removal or a charge absorption, the charging state can no longer be deduced from the respective measured terminal voltage. The state of the art also knows more complex methods for determining the state of charge, which use model-based methods for cell behavior, but which can only be as good intrinsically as a battery cell that ages due to stress corresponds to a theoretical model progression in reality.

For successful coulomb counting, precise current measurement is particularly necessary. However, if the battery cell is part of a power electronic circuit, as is the case, for example, with the reconfigurable battery, which includes a plurality of battery cells that can be interconnected in various ways (serial, parallel, bypass, cascaded arrangement or arrangement in strings), then the Current through the battery cells is highly dynamic. This high current dynamic therefore requires multiple current measurements with high dynamics in order to realize coulomb counting. However, on the one hand this is technically very demanding and on the other hand it is cost-intensive to implement.
Against this background, it is an object of the present invention to provide a method for estimating a charge state of battery cells of a reconfigurable battery, whereby ongoing operation should not be interrupted for this purpose. The effort and costs for this should be low. Furthermore, a system should be provided on which the method is carried out.
To solve the above-mentioned problem, a method for estimating a state of charge of battery cells of a reconfigurable battery is proposed, wherein the reconfigurable battery comprises a plurality of battery cells and a respective battery cell can be connected to a current path by at least two semiconductor switches controlled by a controller. During operation of the reconfigurable battery, a terminal voltage of the respective battery cell shows a relaxation behavior after a charge has been removed or a charge has been received. In the no-load state of the respective battery cell, at least one fit parameter of a fit function is fitted to a curve of the respective terminal voltage for a predetermined fit period after the onset of the relaxation behavior. A final relaxation value, which corresponds to an open-circuit terminal voltage, is extrapolated from the fit function provided with a value of the at least one fitted fit parameter. The state of charge for the respective battery cell is estimated from the idle terminal voltage based on a functional relationship between the idle terminal voltage and the state of charge stored for a respective temperature.
By using a suitable switch position of the at least two semiconductor switches, the respective battery cell can be made load-free, i.e. H. it is in a so-called bypass switching state. This bypass switching state can be brought about for a respective battery cell by a control at regular time intervals for the fit period, during which an externally requested load is provided by the remaining battery cells of the reconfigurable battery. However, it is also conceivable to wait for a phase of low load demand, such as that which occurs when an electric vehicle is idling. In particular when using the reconfigurable battery as an alternating current battery, i.e. H. If the connection of the battery cells to one another or in the current path is constantly reconfigured in this way, so that an alternating voltage is formed between the two external connections of the reconfigurable battery, operating points regularly arise in which individual battery cells are not loaded and therefore no current flows through them, so that their respective terminal voltage can relax.
According to the invention, the three fit parameters a, b, Uocv are fitted to the measured values provided for the fit period to the time profile of the terminal voltage U Bat (t). t 0 is a point in time at which the respective battery cell was de-energized.
In a further embodiment of the method according to the invention, the fit function has a dependence on at least one physical quantity of the respective battery cell. When the relaxation behavior begins, a value of at least one physical quantity is determined and the fit function is parameterized with this value. The at least one physical quantity is selected from the following list: state of charge, temperature, aging.
In a still further embodiment of the method according to the invention, the predetermined fit period before operation of the reconfigurable battery is determined as a period of time for which the terminal voltage changes after it is inserted zen of the relaxation behavior of the respective battery cell, the at least one fit parameter of the fit function can be determined with sufficient accuracy, so that an extrapolation value of the fitted fit function to the relaxation final value corresponds to the open-circuit terminal voltage value within a tolerance range. A possible tolerance range is, for example, given by 1% or 5% of the no-load terminal voltage value.
In a further further embodiment of the method according to the invention, in order to estimate the state of charge in a respective battery cell, the respective battery cell is placed without load for the predetermined fit period.
In a further embodiment of the method according to the invention, a recalibration period is specified for each battery cell. After the recalibration period of the respective battery cell has elapsed, the respective battery cell is de-loaded to estimate its state of charge. This is advantageously done during ongoing operation in the next phase of lower load on the entire reconfigurable battery, in which control or a current contribution from the respective battery cell can be dispensed with for a short time. This is the case, for example, when using the reconfigurable battery as a traction battery in an electric vehicle when there is a traffic light traffic jam or when the traction machine is idling.
In a further embodiment of the method according to the invention, the onset of the relaxation behavior is determined either via a current measurement with a result of 0 A, or the onset of the relaxation behavior is determined via a voltage measurement, in which, in a continued embodiment, a difference between the voltage curve and the fit function, which corresponds to a last valid one Value of the at least one fit parameter is parameterized, is calculated and the difference begins to fall below a predetermined threshold value. It is conceivable that for each battery cell in continued execution it is checked whether relaxation behavior has set in to carry out the method according to the invention and also whether the respective battery cell has subsequently remained unloaded for the fit period, so that the state of charge obtained as a result can be utilized.
In an even further embodiment of the method according to the invention, an originally stored state of charge of the respective battery cell, for example obtained at the start of operation by a coulomb count, is corrected using a filter with the estimated state of charge. This advantageously prevents a time course of the respective charging state from having jumps. In addition, it is conceivable that if such a correction or reinitialization of the state of charge fails to occur in a respective battery cell for a specific time frame, an estimate of the state of charge is forced using the method according to the invention, for example by sending a corresponding message to a higher-level controller of the reconfigurable battery, for example . a so-called scheduler is passed on. The scheduler then takes such messages into account when providing further switching states, i.e. H. The battery cell in question is specifically relieved of load, which may be compensated for by increased load on the remaining battery cells. This ensures regular tracking of the charge states of the battery cells known to the system.
- • in the no-load state of the respective battery cell, to fit at least one fit parameter of a fit function to a curve of the respective terminal voltage for a predetermined fit period after the onset of the relaxation behavior,
- • to extrapolate a relaxation end value, which corresponds to an open-circuit terminal voltage, from the fit function in which the at least one fitted fit parameter is used, and
- • to estimate the state of charge for the respective battery cell from the idle terminal voltage based on a functional relationship between the idle terminal voltage and the state of charge stored for a respective temperature.
