Stand der TechnikState of the art
In order to comply with emission regulations, diesel particle filters are required in the exhaust system of vehicles with diesel engines. The particulate filter must be freed of its soot deposits at certain time intervals so that its flow resistance does not reduce the engine performance. For this purpose, the soot layer is burned off, with carbon dioxide and water vapor being formed from the soot. Exhaust gas temperatures of usually more than 550 ° C are required to burn soot. These temperatures are not reliably reached when the vehicle is in use, so that additional measures are taken for regeneration. For this purpose, additional energy is introduced into the particle filter, for example by heating it by means of an electric heating disk, using a fuel burner or by post-injection of fuel into the engine combustion chamber. The choice of the point in time at which a regeneration of the particle filter is initiated is based, for example, on the distance traveled by the motor vehicle and the pressure difference across the particle filter. In addition, certain boundary conditions such as sufficient engine temperature and exhaust gas temperature must be guaranteed. At the same time, it must also be ensured that more suitable conditions prevail during the entire regeneration. The regeneration of the particle filter is an exothermic process. When the motor vehicle switches to coasting mode or idling, there is a risk, for example, that the exhaust gas mass flow will decrease in the event of a highly loaded particle filter and, with a simultaneous increase in the oxygen partial pressure, the temperature in the particle filter will increase, which can lead to its destruction.
The regeneration is usually ended when the soot load in the particulate filter drops to a predetermined threshold value. This is known as full regeneration. At a higher threshold value, however, a decision is made on the basis of various pieces of information on the quality of the regeneration in progress as to whether the regeneration should be ended prematurely. This is known as partial regeneration.

Offenbarung der ErfindungDisclosure of the invention
In the method for regenerating an exhaust gas aftertreatment system of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle, which can in particular be a diesel particle filter, a control unit is supplied with a dynamic horizon of a predicted route. Regeneration cycles are controlled taking into account the dynamic horizon. Such a dynamic horizon can be made available, for example, by a navigation device of the motor vehicle. The horizon provider usually provides a segment definition for the route that can be used to predict suitable segments for regenerating the exhaust gas aftertreatment system. These segments can have different lengths if, for example, one segment comprises a route to be covered on a motorway and another segment comprises a route to be covered on a country road. A regeneration start time is set at the beginning of a segment. However, the method does not provide for such predefined segments to be used.
Instead, it is provided that the route in the method is divided into segments, in particular of equal length. The length of the segments can be defined, for example, as a function of the distance traveled, the elapsed time or the fuel consumption of the internal combustion engine. If predeterminable conditions exist, the segments are divided into shorter subsegments, which in turn preferably also each have the same length. The regeneration cycles of the exhaust aftertreatment system are only carried out in the sub-segments. As long as the optimal point in time for regeneration is still far in the future, this makes it possible to define a rough time grid in order to be able to expand the horizon under consideration quickly so that no good segments for regeneration are missed. If, on the other hand, the optimal time for the regeneration is already near, a finer time grid can be used in order not to miss the appropriate start of the regeneration cycle. In the same way, the use of the finer sub-segments also makes it possible to precisely define the probable end of the regeneration.
When using predefined segments from the navigation system, the start time of a regeneration can only be placed at the beginning of a segment. No start time can be assigned within one of these segments. In particular in the case of long segments from the navigation system, this means that the optimal start time for regeneration cannot be selected. The present method sets the starting time of the regeneration at the beginning of one of the subsegments. The method enables the use of a predeterminable number of segments and subsegments instead of the predefined segments from the navigation system of indefinite number and length. This enables a more precise determination of the optimal start time of the regeneration and its duration regardless of the number of specified segments from the navigation system.
It is preferred that a predeterminable condition, which leads to the allocation of the segments in sub-segments, is that at most half of the dynamic horizon is occupied. Another condition which leads to the division of the segments into sub-segments is preferably that a planned start of regeneration lies in the first half of the dynamic horizon. The fulfillment of either of these conditions indicates that the optimal time for regeneration is imminent, so it is now advantageous to look at the horizon in the finer subsegments. If, on the other hand, the horizon is already divided into the shortest sub-segments provided in the method, then additional fulfillment of further of the specified conditions is not taken into account.
The method also provides conditions under which the sub-segments are reset again, so that initially the coarser grid of the original segments is used again. One of these conditions is preferably met when there is a change in the predicted route. If the prediction is lost for a short time or if the driver of the motor vehicle decides on a different route than the one previously calculated, it is necessary to look for a new optimal time for the regeneration for the new route, this search beginning in the grid of the rough segments.
Furthermore, it is preferred that the sub-segments are reset when a segment is added to the route. If this event occurs, the optimal point in time for the regeneration should also be recalculated so as not to miss any segments at the end of the horizon that are particularly suitable for regeneration and which were not yet taken into account in the previous calculation. This calculation preferably also starts with the coarse segments.
However, if an LMH (Last Mile Home) signal is already present when adding a further segment to the route in the dynamic horizon, which indicates that the motor vehicle is just before the end of its route, it is preferable not to reset the sub-segments. In this case, added segments would be so close to the end of the journey that they are no longer suitable for regeneration, which makes recalculation superfluous.
If the exhaust gas aftertreatment system is a particulate filter, it is preferred that, based on a predicted soot load of the particulate filter at a start time of the regeneration, several predictions are made for the regeneration up to different end values of the soot load in order to determine a start time of the regeneration at the beginning of a sub-segment. The end values can range from a partial regeneration to a complete regeneration. Since the premature end of the regeneration is included in the assessment criteria, a determination of the optimal start time of the regeneration can take place, taking into account a shortening of the regeneration.
The computer program is set up to carry out each step of the method, in particular when it runs on a computing device or on an electronic control device. For this purpose it is stored on the machine-readable storage medium.
By uploading the computer program to a conventional electronic control device, the electronic control device is obtained, which is set up to regenerate an exhaust gas aftertreatment system by means of the method.

In the method according to the invention, the duration of the regeneration is predicted for all possible start and end times. The possible starting times are each at the beginning of a sub-segment. The best starting time can then be selected using various criteria.
In a first exemplary embodiment of the method, an efficiency factor of the regeneration is calculated from a prediction of the soot load at the start time, a prediction of the duration of the regeneration and a prediction of the soot load at the selected end time. The starting time with the highest efficiency factor is selected. This serves as an input variable for the segmentation.
In a second exemplary embodiment of the method, a cost factor is additionally determined for each segment. From the forecast of the duration of the regeneration and the segments involved, the costs for the regeneration are determined, to which additional costs are added depending on the soot load at the start and end time of the regeneration. The total costs determined in this way can be subjected to a comparison, despite different regeneration times, in such a way that the start time with the lowest costs is selected and serves as the input variable for the segmentation.
