Description
The invention relates to a polymer electrolyte composition for an electrochemical solid-state cell, which comprises a fluorine-containing additive and has improved properties with regard to the formation of a solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) and the deposition of elemental lithium at the anode. The subject is also a method for producing the polymer electrolyte composition, the use of the polymer electrolyte composition, and an electrochemical solid-state cell comprising the polymer electrolyte composition.
Stand der TechnikState of the art
Electrochemical cells which use a material which comprises or consists of lithium metal as the active material of the negative electrode (anode) have particularly high energy densities. However, the tendency to form lithium dendrites during the deposition of the lithium metal is problematic, which can result in short circuits.
It is known from battery cells with liquid electrolyte compositions that they tend to form lithium dendrites at the anode, to loss of capacity, reactions between electrolyte and electrode and short circuits. Stability and safety concerns of these systems have led to the development of solid separators, for example based on polymers. The interface chemistry between the anode and the separator is of crucial importance for the service life of such a solid-state cell. The formation of a stable and at the same time flexible Solid Electrolyte Interphase (SEI) is often difficult due to the high reactivity of the lithium of the anode.
Offenbarung der ErfindungDisclosure of the invention
The present invention relates to a polymer electrolyte composition for an electrochemical solid-state cell, the polymer electrolyte composition comprising at least one polymer, at least one conductive salt containing lithium ions and at least one fluorine-containing additive. A fluorine-containing additive in the sense of this invention is distinguished by the fact that it has at least one covalent fluorine-carbon bond.
It has been found that the use of fluorine-containing additives in the polymer electrolyte composition, when used in an electrochemical cell, effectively prevents the formation of lithium dendrites and supports the deposition of lithium with a narrow, columnar microstructure. This effect can also be achieved with a high current of up to 10 mA * cm -2 . In addition, the presence of small amounts of water is not a problem. Intensive drying of the components of an electrochemical cell according to the invention is therefore not necessary.

The homogeneous composition can be obtained by adding an appropriate solvent to obtain a polymer electrolyte solution. Suitable solvents are those which are able to partially or completely dissolve at least some of the constituents of the composition.
Particularly suitable are solvents which are able to partially or completely dissolve the at least one polymer used.

Alternatively, the homogeneous composition can also be obtained by melting of the polymer used (hereinafter also referred to as polymer electrolyte melt) and the other constituents in the polymer melt are homogeneously dissolved and / or dispersed. Such a polymer melt can be obtained by means of a temperature-controlled mixer, in particular a kneader and / or extruder, the selected temperature being set such that sufficient softening of the polymer is achieved, but the thermal load on the polymer is kept low. The energy introduced by the mechanical energy of the mixer is often sufficient to obtain a polymer melt. In this case, it may therefore be necessary to use the temperature control device of the mixer to cool the polymer melt. After the polymer melt has cooled, the polymer electrolyte composition according to the invention is obtained.
The invention also relates to a method for producing a separator film, comprising the polymer electrolyte composition according to the invention. For this purpose, the polymer composition, preferably in the form of the previously described polymer electrolyte solution and / or the previously described polymer electrolyte melt, is applied to at least one substrate surface. Suitable methods for this are known to the person skilled in the art. In particular, coating processes such as doctor blade processes, spray coating processes, dip coating processes and spin coating processes are to be emphasized.
The layer of the polymer electrolyte composition is then cured by cooling the polymer melt to a temperature below the melting temperature and / or removing the solvent.
In one embodiment of this subject of the invention, the substrate on the surface of which the polymer electrolyte composition according to the invention is applied, is an inert substrate, for example made of a metal such as aluminum or stainless steel, or preferably a non-adhesive, inert polymer such as polytetrafluoroethylene. In a preferred, alternative embodiment, the polymer electrolyte composition is applied directly to the surface of an electrode of an electrochemical cell as the substrate surface. A negative electrode (anode) is particularly preferably used as the substrate, this preferably comprising a metallic lithium-containing active material. Overall, however, no absolute exclusion of water in the electrochemical cell is required. The tolerance of the electrochemical cell to a low residual water content is increased by the fluorine-containing additive.
The separator film preferably has a layer thickness of 1 to 500 μm, in particular 50 to 250 μm.
