Stand der TechnikState of the art
Electrical energy can be stored by means of batteries. Batteries convert chemical reaction energy into electrical energy. Here, a distinction is made between primary batteries and secondary batteries. Primary batteries are only functional once, while secondary batteries, also referred to as accumulators, are rechargeable. A battery comprises one or more battery cells.
In particular, so-called lithium-ion battery cells are used in an accumulator. These are characterized among other things by high energy densities, thermal stability and extremely low self-discharge. Lithium-ion battery cells are used, inter alia, in motor vehicles, in particular in electric vehicles (EV), hybrid vehicles (HEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV).
Lithium-ion battery cells comprise at least one electrode unit, which has a positive electrode, which is also referred to as a cathode, and a negative electrode, which is also referred to as an anode. The cathode and the anode each comprise an active material layer which comprises an electrochemical active material. In addition to the active material, the active material layer often comprises other materials, in particular an electronic conductive component such as carbon black or graphite, and an ionic conductive component such as an electrolyte. For mechanical stabilization of the active material layer, for example, a polymer binder can be used.
The electrode unit also includes a separator disposed between the cathode and the anode, which separates the anode and the cathode from each other. The separator is ionically conductive but electrically non-conductive. The separator may in particular comprise a solid electrolyte, such as polymer, glass or ceramic.

Offenbarung der ErfindungDisclosure of the invention
An electrode unit for a battery cell is proposed. The electrode unit comprises a plurality of stack elements. The stacking elements each comprise an anodic active material layer, a cathodic active material layer, and a separator layer disposed between the anodic active material layer and the cathodic active material layer.
The cathodic active material layer contains, for example as active material, an alloy of nickel, cobalt and manganese (NCM) or lithium manganese oxide (LMO) or lithium iron phosphate (LFP). Other active materials are conceivable. The cathodic active material may optionally have a coating of, for example, alumina (Al 2 O 3 ) or lithium niobate (LiNbO 3 ) to reduce surface resistance. The cathodic active material layer may also contain a particularly sulfidic, oxidic or polymeric solid-state electrolyte for increasing the ionic conductivity. Furthermore, the cathodic active material layer may have a conductivity additive, for example a carbon compound, for increasing the electrical conductivity. For mechanical stabilization of the cathodic active material layer, for example, a binder can be used.
The anodic active material layer contains as active material, for example, pure metallic lithium or a lithium alloy. The anodic active material layer can also be graphite, silicon or a mixture of these substances as active material contain. Other active materials are conceivable. Furthermore, the anodic active material layer may also have a particularly sulfidically formed solid electrolyte for increasing the ionic conductivity.
The electrode unit further comprises at least one electrically conductive guide element, which is arranged between two adjacent stack elements. By means of the electrically conductive guide element thus two adjacent stack elements are connected in series. The guide element is ionically non-conductive. A transport of lithium ions through the guide element is therefore not possible.
According to the invention, the at least one guide element has a conductive layer, which comprises a fabric made of carbon nanotubes. The fabric of carbon nanotubes is flat and relatively thin, especially in the form of a film. In the manufacture of the electrode unit, the conductive layer is preferably prefabricated and then introduced between the stack elements. The tissue is formed in particular from carbon nanotubes.
The separator layer of the stack elements preferably has a solid electrolyte. The solid-state electrolyte has a relatively high conductivity, in particular for lithium ions, but is not electrically conductive. The solid electrolyte is preferably inorganic, in particular sulphidic, oxidic or polymeric. The solid electrolyte may, for example, have a crystalline as well as an amorphous structure or a mixture of these two structures.
Preferably, the stack elements and the at least one guide element are arranged in the electrode unit such that the at least one guide element adjoins the anodic active material layer of a stack element and the cathodic active material layer of an adjacent stack element. Thus, the two adjacent stack elements are connected in series by means of the electrically conductive guide element.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the conductive layer of the at least one guide element, that is to say the said fabric of carbon nanotubes, adjoins directly to an anodic active material layer of a stack element.
According to a further advantageous embodiment of the invention, the conductive layer of the at least one guide element, that is to say the said fabric of carbon nanotubes, adjoins directly to a cathodic active material layer of a stack element.
According to an advantageous development of the invention, the at least one guide element has an electrically conductive surface layer. The electrically conductive surface layer is applied, for example, in the form of a coating on the conductive layer of the at least one guide element, that is to say on the said fabric of carbon nanotubes. The edge layer preferably has a thickness of about 1 μm.
According to one possible embodiment of the invention, the stack elements and the at least one guide element are arranged in the electrode unit such that the electrically conductive edge layer of the at least one guide element directly adjoins an anodic active material layer of a stack element.
According to a further possible embodiment of the invention, the stack elements and the at least one guide element are arranged in the electrode unit such that the electrically conductive edge layer of the at least one guide element directly adjoins a cathodic active material layer of a stack element.
Preferably, the electrically conductive surface layer of the at least one guide element is formed metallic and in particular made of copper, aluminum or nickel.
According to an advantageous embodiment of the invention, the conductive layer, which is formed as a fabric of carbon nanotubes or as a carbon nanotube fiber mat, in the event that the edge layer is in contact with the cathode, already pre-introduced lithium. For example, said lithium is introduced into the fabric of carbon nanotubes. The edge layer avoids contact of the lithium in the fiber mat with the cathode, but the fiber mat per se forms a skeleton for the deposition of lithium at the anode during the charging process of the battery, which can advantageously reduce the volume change of the cell stack.
A battery cell is also proposed which comprises at least one electrode unit according to the invention.
Vorteile der ErfindungAdvantages of the invention
An electrode unit according to the invention may have a relatively high specific energy of more than 400 Wh / kg. The relative proportion of electrochemically inactive components is advantageously reduced. Carbon nanotube fabrics can be produced in thicknesses of 3 .mu.m to 5 .mu.m and are thus significantly thinner than commercially available copper foils, which are commonly used in Thicknesses between 6 μm and 10 μm are available. Furthermore, carbon nanotube fabrics have a significantly lower weight than commercial copper foils. For example, a woven fabric of carbon nanotubes having a thickness of 5 μm has a weight of between 0.18 mg / cm 2 and 0.2 mg / cm 2 . For example, a commercial copper foil having a thickness of 10 μm has a weight of 9 mg / cm 2 . Thus, the specific energy - measured in Wh / kg - and the energy density - measured in Wh / l - an electrode unit according to the invention and a battery cell according to the invention are advantageously increased.
