Description
The invention relates to a joining system, which comprises a method for assembling at least two components, a joining element for assembling at least two components and a joining part with at least two electrically conductive components, which are mutually overlappingly arranged in an overlapping section and joined together in the overlapping section via such a joining element , includes.
However, some such problems, in particular due to the differences in the joining partner materials, occur in such joint connections. For example, the thermal joining of steel and aluminum is determined by in part different electrical and thermal properties such as elongation, conductivity and melting point. The main problem is the low solubility of iron and aluminum for each other, so that when joining at the interface of the materials brittle, intermetallic phases can form which negatively affect the bonding properties. These intermetallic phases form as a result of diffusion already from about 350 ° C and are therefore technically difficult to avoid.
If a conditionally weldable steel is heavily thermomechanically stressed by the joining process, impermissible irregularities (for example cracks) can occur. This is e.g. resistance spot welding of FeMn steel. When welding low-alloyed steel and FeMn steel, a metallurgically unfavorable structure can occur during material mixing in the molten metal (for example martensite, high hardness, low elongation).
Since in this joining process the joining element is driven through the first component in a mechanically cutting manner, on the one hand the joining element must have sufficient mechanical strength to withstand the cutting load, and on the other hand not be too large a thickness dimension to be penetrated by the joining element and a strength of the first component in order not to let the cutting load for the joining element become too large.
The invention has for its object to provide a joining system with which the assembly of two particular plate-shaped electrically conductive components is facilitated.
This is achieved by a method according to claim 1, a joining element according to
In the joining system according to the invention, a method (joining method in the following) for joining at least two components is provided, wherein electrically conductive first and second components are arranged such that they overlap each other at least in an overlapping section.
The first and second components are preferably made of metal, so that they are each electrically conductive. More preferably, the two components are each formed as a metal sheet and are arranged one above the other to fit together one above the other in particular, so that overlap the two components in the overlapping overlapping section. The first component is preferably made of a non-ferrous metal or light metal such as in particular aluminum or an aluminum alloy or Magnesium or a magnesium alloy produced. The second component is preferably made of a ferrous metal, in particular steel. More preferably, the second component is made of an iron-manganese steel (FeMn steel). The second component preferably forms a base plate, whereas the first component preferably forms a cover plate.
According to the joining method according to the invention, an electrically conductive joining element is provided with a shank portion and a head portion provided at a first longitudinal end of the shank portion, i. with a predefined specific shape or geometry, provided such that a second longitudinal end of the shaft section facing away from the head section in the overlapping section is pressed against the first component in contact contact. Preferably, the joining element consists of steel.
Geometrie.According to the joining method according to the invention, an initial electrical current flow is realized through the joining element and the first component, so that the first component is rendered fluid in the contact area to the joining element. The shank portion is pushed through the flowable contact area of the first component, in particular without any deformation or change in geometry of the shank portion, until the second longitudinal end of the shank portion comes into contact with the second component. Subsequently, an electrical welding current flow through the particular undeformed joining element and the second component is realized through, so that the second longitudinal end of the shaft portion of the joining element and the second component are welded together by resistance welding. The joining element preferably does not undergo any significant or process-relevant change in its shape or geometry during the entire joining process or joining process.
According to the joining method of the present invention, the initial current flow is realized so that its current is higher at an end time of the initial current flow than at an initial time point of the initial current flow. With this control of the current intensity of the initial current flow, a sudden increase in heat between the shank portion of the joining element and the surface of the first component is avoided, whereby material ejections can advantageously be reduced from the first component preferably acting as a cover plate, while the shank portion of the joining element is forced through the first component , Preferably, the current intensity of the initial current flow is controlled so that the material of the first component is not liquefied in the contact area to the joining element, but is only put into a doughy state. This material ejections can be reduced even better. Preferably, the current strength of the initial current flow is also controlled so that the joining element undergoes no change in its shape or geometry when pressed by the first component. As a result, the assembly of the components is facilitated or improved.
According to one embodiment of the joining method according to the invention, the initial current flow is realized in such a way that its current intensity is continuously increased from the start time of the initial current flow to the end time of the initial current flow. According to a further embodiment of the joining method according to the invention, the initial current flow is realized in such a way that its current intensity is increased linearly, in particular continuously linearly, from the start time of the initial current flow to the end time of the initial current flow.
According to yet another embodiment of the joining method according to the invention, the welding current flow is realized such that its current intensity is higher than the current intensity of the initial current flow at its end time. Preferably, the welding current flow is realized so that its current at the end time of the initial current flow pulse-like, in particular in the manner of a rectangular function, set to a predetermined welding current value and the set welding current value is maintained continuously over a predetermined welding period.
In the joining method according to the invention, the flowable material of the first component is pressed from the second longitudinal end of the shank portion of the joining element in the direction of the joining plane between the first and second components. As a result, this material collects before the beginning of the welding current flow around the second longitudinal end of the shaft portion in the joining plane as a material bead until the second longitudinal end of the shaft portion meets the surface of the second component. With the beginning of the welding current flow, a high degree of heat is created by the particularly pulse-like increase in current. As a result, the resulting bulge of material in the joining plane is melted around the second longitudinal end of the shaft section, so that the bead of material is partially sprayed away from the joining plane. In the joining plane, this leads to a reduction of a joint gap between the first and second components.
In the joining system according to the invention, a joining element is also provided for joining together at least two components, in particular by means of resistance welding. The at least two components are preferred as the first and second components described above in the context of the joining method according to the invention formed, and the joining element according to the invention is preferably used for the joining method according to the invention in any of its embodiments.
The pad element according to the invention has a shaft section and a head section, which is provided at a longitudinal end of the shaft section, wherein the joining element is made of an electrically conductive material, in particular steel.
The pad member according to the invention also has a material receiving structure which extends around an entire circumference of the shaft portion with a plurality of depressions, which are lined up in a spaced-apart manner in a component contact surface of the head portion adjoining the shaft portion. The depressions of the material-receiving structure are bounded on the radial inside each by the shaft portion, wherein a rib is provided at each boundary between circumferentially of the shaft portion mutually adjacent depressions in the context of the material receiving structure. Each of the ribs of the material receiving structure extends radially and in particular flush with the component abutment surface so as to connect the head portion to the stem portion and circumferentially bounds the recesses adjacent to each other at the rib. in the circumferential direction of the shaft portion. The material receiving structure according to the invention with the ribs and the depressions can e.g. eroded or hammered with a tool.
In the joining method according to the invention, the flowable material of the first component is pressed by the melting of the joining element on the one hand directly into the joining plane and then there distributed molten by the welding current flow to reduce the joint gap. On the other hand, the meltable material of the first component can also be displaced along the shaft section of the joining element in the direction of its head section as a result of the melting of the joining element, so that the joint gap is reduced. In order to be able to absorb this material, a full circumferential recess of a material receiving structure can be provided in the component abutment surface of the head section adjoining the shank section, the depression being bounded on the inside by the shaft section. This full depression may e.g. be formed as an annular groove in the component contact surface. However, it has been found in investigations that such a full depression results in an increased susceptibility to breakage at the head section, which can lead to undesired deformation or to breakage of the head section when introducing the pad into the components.
In the pad element of the invention, the plurality of each partially circumferential recesses, which are each lined up delimited, and the ribs are provided at the boundaries between the mutually adjacent recesses. Each of the ribs extends radially and in particular flush with the component abutment surface so that it connects the head portion with the shank portion, and circumferentially bounds the recesses adjacent to each other at the rib. The segmenting ribs thus act as reinforcements for the head portion of the joining element. In investigations, it was found that the notch susceptibility to breakage at the head portion is significantly reduced by the material receiving structure according to the invention and head tensile strengths are achieved analogous to joining element heads without recess. An undesirable deformation or breakage of the head portion of the joining element according to the invention when introducing into the components could not be determined. In the joining method according to the invention, the flowable material of the first component can flow along the shank portion of the joining element according to the invention into the plurality of each partially circumferential depressions and thus the joint gap can be reduced by up to 70 percent compared to a joining element without material receiving structure. As a result, the assembly of the components is facilitated or improved.
According to embodiments of the joining element according to the invention, the depressions may be formed with identical shape and dimension. In addition, the recesses may each be formed in a circular arc and be lined up in an annular ring around the circumference of the shaft portion.
Bei der Senkkopfvariante schließt vorteilhaft die Oberseite des Kopfabschnitts bündig mit der Oberfläche des ersten Bauteils ab.According to a further embodiment of the joining element according to the invention, the head section is cylindrical or formed as a flat head in a center longitudinal section of the joining element extending through the head section and the shank section, or tapering towards the shank section or as a countersunk head. In the flat head variant, the joining element can be welded in depth to the extent that the component abutment surface is flush with the surface of the first component. In addition, high head tensile strengths can be achieved with the flat head variant. In the countersunk variant, the upper side of the head section advantageously ends flush with the surface of the first component.
Preferably, the head portion is circular in cross section. In this case, the head portion at a shaft portion remote longitudinal end of which have a diameter in a range of 3 mm to 20 mm.
According to a further embodiment of the joining element according to the invention, the other or second longitudinal end of the shaft section facing away from the head section is provided with a plateau which forms an end face for contacting the components. The plateau at the contacting longitudinal end of the shaft portion facilitates the melting and welding between the joining element and the components. In addition, the plateau serves to reduce material ejections from the first component, while the shank portion of the joining element is pushed through the first component, since the heat input is distributed uniformly on the plateau surface by the plateau.
According to a further embodiment of the joining element according to the invention, the shank portion is formed circular-cylindrical with a diameter in a range of 3 mm to 10 mm. Preferably, the shank portion at its longitudinal end remote from the head portion to form the plateau on a chamfer, so that the plateau has a diameter in a range of 0.5 mm to 5 mm. Preferably, the chamfer is formed so that it extends from the plateau by a predetermined partial length of the shaft portion in the direction of the head portion, wherein the partial length of the shaft portion is up to 100 percent, in particular between 10 percent and 30 percent, of an overall length of the shaft portion.
In the joining system according to the invention, a joining part is also provided with at least two electrically conductive components, which are mutually overlappingly arranged in an overlapping section and joined together in the overlapping section via an inventive joining element in any of its above embodiments. The at least two components are preferably designed like the first and second components described above in the context of the joining method according to the invention.
In the joining part according to the invention, the shank portion of the pad element in the overlapping section is melted through the one component by means of electrical current flow (initial current flow), in particular without deformation of the shaft section, so that the shaft section penetrates the one or first component, and is the longitudinal end of the head section facing away from the head section Shank portion welded by electrical current flow (welding current flow) with the other or second component. In the joining part according to the invention, the joining element and the other component are made of the same material. The joining part according to the invention is preferably produced with the joining method according to the invention in any of its embodiments.
As described above, the one or first component is preferably made of a non-ferrous metal or light metal, in particular aluminum or an aluminum alloy or magnesium or a magnesium alloy. The other or second component is preferably made of a ferrous metal, in particular steel. More preferably, the other or second component is made of an iron-manganese steel (FeMn steel). According to the joining part according to the invention, therefore, the joining element is also preferably made of a ferrous metal such as in particular steel and more preferably made of an iron-manganese steel (FeMn steel).
Examination of the material properties of the first and second components revealed that the thermal expansion coefficients of FeMn steel and e.g. Aluminum and its alloys are approximately at the same level. Consequently, a stress build-up or a distortion of the components, as may be the case in conventional steel-aluminum composite construction, would not come into play here. If a FeMn steel is then also used for the joining element, the problem of stress build-up can thus be avoided, and the joint connection of the two components can be designed as strength-giving. As a result, the assembly of the components is facilitated or improved.
According to a further embodiment of the joining part according to the invention, the shank portion of the pad member has an overall length that is at least 0.2 mm to 0.3 mm larger than a thickness dimension of the one or first component in its penetration direction. With this dimensioning of the overall length of the shaft portion, a protrusion is ensured after penetration of the first component and contacting of the second component by the shaft portion, which ensures a sufficient penetration depth of the shaft portion into the second component and thus a sufficient joint strength. Preferably, the total length of the shaft portion is sized larger as the thickness dimension of the one or first component increases in the direction of penetration. This is due to the fact that as the thickness dimension of the one or the first component increases, the amount of material displaced into the joining plane also increases.
Finally, it should be mentioned that in the joining method according to the invention an inventive joining element can be provided in any of its embodiments and used as a joining element.
