The hydrocarbons to be cleaved are preferably gaseous hydrocarbons at room temperature and atmospheric pressure, more preferably
The thermal cracking of hydrocarbons is well known. The cleavage takes place in a mixture of solid carbon, which can develop into particles of different size and property, which are also known as soot or carbon black, and gaseous hydrogen.
As a heat source regularly plasma torches, such as a Kvaerner plasma torch, are used, which can efficiently convert electrical energy into thermal energy of a gas. The electrodes used are exposed to high temperatures and an aggressive atmosphere, which limits the possible selection of materials for the electrodes. The electrodes are inevitably eroded by the arc, which is particularly important in a continuous operation of importance. Generally suitable are electrodes of graphite or similar highly carbonaceous materials that are conductive and high temperature stable. In addition, graphite electrodes by their erosion do not contaminate the products of thermal cleavage by other chemical elements and are relatively cheap.
Hydrogen and carbon obtained in a Kvaerner reactor can be added in a second step in a CO2 converter using the Boudouard reaction with the addition of CO2 and in an H2O converter using the heterogeneous Water Gas Shift reaction be converted by water into synthesis gas.
The production as fuels of suitable liquid hydrocarbons from coal and / or gaseous hydrocarbons is known. One of the oldest known processes is the Fischer-Tropsch process starting from so-called synthesis gas (mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide).
This synthesis gas is reacted, for example, by the above Fischer-Tropsch method to liquid fuel.
It is also already known to recover the hydrogen content of synthesis gas by preferably thermal decomposition of methane into carbon and hydrogen. The required energy input can take place in a so-called Kvaerner reactor by means of a plasma generated by means of electrical energy. This is particularly advantageous when excess electrical energy is available, for example, from regenerative sources, which in this way can advantageously be converted into chemical energy and ultimately bound to a fuel.
The initial decomposition of hydrocarbons in the Kvaerner reactor with the supply of regeneratively generated electrical energy and the second step use of carbon dioxide causes the CO2 balance so produced liquid fuel is much more advantageous than that of petroleum-based fuel.
The heat input into the gaseous hydrocarbons can result in a continuous operation to a strong deposition of carbon on the electrodes and in the region of the electrodes result. A phenomenon known as "fouling" or "carbon fouling". Fouling can lead to short circuits, considerable reduction of the free cross section for the gas flow and uncontrolled, possibly even short-term, changes in the electrode shape due to loosely deposited carbon particles, which significantly disturb the stability of the process.
Accordingly, hydrogen is regularly used as the plasma gas in which fouling by the hydrogen does not occur, which does not oxidize typical electrode materials such as graphite in the hot environment. Alternatively, noble gases can be used as plasma gas.
The invention is based on the object to provide a reactor and a method of the type mentioned above, which allows an efficient and cost-effective splitting of hydrocarbons such as methane in carbon and hydrogen.
The reactor of the invention achieves this object in that the reactor has a plasma section in which a plasma torch with at least two electrodes is arranged, wherein the plasma torch has an inlet for plasma gas and is adapted to generate a plasma with the plasma gas in a plasma region. The plasma section has at least one inlet port for hydrocarbons to thermally crack the hydrocarbons by heat of the plasma. According to the invention, the reactor has at least two identical channel sections which depart from the plasma section, wherein the thermally split hydrocarbons can be conducted away from a center of the plasma section via the identical channel sections.
The proposed reactor with several similar channel sections allows for good mixing of hot plasma gas with the hydrocarbons to be thermally cracked, resulting in rapid heat transfer to the hydrocarbons. As a result, the hydrocarbons, especially methane, can be split very quickly and effectively. Furthermore, the hot aerosol of carbon and hydrogen from the split hydrocarbons is again promoted after a short and minimal retention time from the very hot plasma region, which has a positive effect on the formation of the smallest possible carbon particles. This is achieved by deflecting the hydrocarbon stream at an angle in the range of 45 ° to 90 °. In particular, the introduction of hydrocarbons in countercurrent to the plasma gas allows thorough mixing, but leads, as well as other conventional solutions, to long residence times of carbon in a very hot plasma region. In the case of countercurrent introduction, this is due to the complete reversal of the direction of the hydrocarbons introduced. Through the introduction of several channel sections, which forward the aerosol in equal parts, a deflection of advantageous 90 ° can be achieved. There is thus a large cross-section which is available for the discharge of the hot aerosol, which also allows short residence times and thus small particle sizes.
Furthermore, the departure of multiple channel sections achieves that the walls of the plasma section have less surface area exposed to high temperatures compared to conventional linear reactors since the hot gas stream or aerosol can be diverted to multiple sides. In addition, there are no dead volumes in the reactor, in which material, such as agglomerated carbon particles, can deposit or circulate hot gas streams and attack the reactor walls.
The plasma section is the part of the reactor where the plasma region is located. Furthermore, the center of the plasma section lies in the axis or at the intersection of the central longitudinal axes of the channel sections. In advantageous embodiments with a plasma torch, the center of the plasma section lies in the main axis of the electrodes. In embodiments with multiple plasma torches, the center of the plasma portion is usually midway between the plasma torches.
In advantageous embodiments, the channel sections are tubular or have a circular cross-section.
Preferably, the inlet port or ports for hydrocarbons are arranged equidistant from two channel sections.
The equidistant arrangement of the inlet opening (s) enables the most uniform possible introduction of the gas flow or aerosol flow into the channel sections. In embodiments in which two or both channel sections have a common axis, i. both channel sections divert the thermally split hydrocarbons in opposite directions, the inlet opening (s) lie in a plane perpendicular to the axes of the channel sections and centrally between the channel sections.
With more than two channel sections, it is advantageous if the inlet opening (s) are equidistant from two channel sections, i. it is not necessary that one or each inlet opening is equidistant to more than two channel sections.
In preferred embodiments, the inlet port or ports are aligned with the plasma region.
Reaktion.A corresponding orientation allows a good and fast mixing and heating of the introduced hydrocarbons in the plasma or in the plasma region, whereby the decomposition of the hydrocarbons can be achieved with short residence times of the individual masses in the plasma region, which has an advantageous effect on the particle size of the carbon. As small as possible carbon particles are suitable for further processing or reaction due to the good surface-to-mass ratio.
In an advantageous embodiment, a plurality of hydrocarbon inlet ports are arranged in a plane midway between two channel sections.
A large number of inlets for hydrocarbons in one plane achieves a particularly good and rapid mixing and thus heat transfer to the hydrocarbons, since hydrocarbons are blown into the plasma region from several directions at the same time. As the only direction of evasion, the axes of the channel sections, whereby on the one hand an efficient routing of the resulting aerosol is possible and on the other hand, a wall contact of the aerosol can be avoided or reduced, so that the thermal load and the possible deposition of carbon on the walls of the plasma section and the channel sections is reduced.
Preferably, the inlet openings are arranged annularly in the plane in the center or in the center of the plasma section between the channel sections, whereby the plasma region in the region of the ring of walls of the plasma section can be kept away by a corresponding gas flow of the hydrocarbons, so that the walls of the plasma section thermal be charged less.
Preferably, the inlet ports for hydrocarbons are disposed in the ring, preferably at equal intervals, i. evenly distributed over the circumference of the plasma section.
Preferably, each channel section has an introduction region for CO 2 . The carbon dioxide introduction section allows the carbon of the split hydrocarbons to be chemically reacted in CO (carbon monoxide) in a Boudouard reaction, so that synthesis gas, ie, a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, can be efficiently generated from, for example, natural gas and carbon dioxide.
Preferably, several inlet openings for the introduction of CO 2 are provided. Multiple inflow openings allow uniform mixing and thus a Boudouard reaction over a short distance in the channel section. Preferably, the inlet openings for the introduction of CO 2 are arranged in an introduction plane, more preferably annular, particularly preferably in an arrangement with equal intervals.
It is advantageous if the distance of the introduction region for CO 2 from the center of the plasma section is 0.30 m to 1.5 m, preferably 0.3 m to 1.0 m. As a result, an advantageous for the Boudouard reaction temperature distribution can be adjusted.
Preferably, each channel section has an introduction region for H 2 O. As a result, a heterogeneous water gas conversion reaction of the thermally cracked hydrocarbons is possible. There are comparable advantages, as in the Boudouard reaction with CO 2 . Advantageous is the combination of the Boudouard reaction and the water gas conversion reaction to control the composition of the synthesis gas. This is especially true to arbitrarily adjust the ratio of CO and H 2 .
In advantageous embodiments, the distance of the lead-in area for H 2 O is the center of the plasma portion of 0.3 m to 2.5 m, preferably 0.5 m to 1.5 m. As a result, an advantageous for the water gas conversion reaction temperature distribution can be adjusted. In particular, a complete reaction of the carbon particles to gaseous products can be achieved, which enables the continuous operation of the reactor without cleaning interruptions or separation of the solid carbon particles before a downstream process, such as a Fischer-Tropsch process.
In a further advantageous embodiment, the introduction ranges for CO 2 and for H 2 O overlap. In an advantageous embodiment, the distance between the introduction levels for CO 2 and for H 2 O may be 0 m.
The proposed reactor with two or more than two identical channel sections allows a simple structural adaptation of the reactor to different requirements in the process design with introduction regions for carbon dioxide and / or water by changing the distances. This is in particular given in tubular channel sections and introduction areas with annularly arranged inflow openings.
In preferred embodiments, the introduction regions have a plurality of inflow openings, wherein the inflow openings are distributed over the circumference of the respective channel section, more preferably evenly distributed.
Preferably, several inlet openings for the introduction of H 2 O are provided. Multiple nozzles allow uniform mixing and thus a water gas conversion reaction over a short distance in the duct section. Preferably, the inlet openings for the introduction of H 2 O are arranged in an introduction plane, more preferably annular, particularly preferably in an arrangement with equal intervals.
Preferably, the plasma torch has an inner electrode and an outer annular electrode, wherein the plasma torch between the outer and inner electrode has an annular Inlet for plasma gas has. Such an arrangement is known as Kvaerner plasma torch. The inner electrode preferably has an inlet port for hydrocarbons. An inlet port for hydrocarbons in the inner electrode allows a high ratio of introduced hydrocarbons to plasma gas used. In addition, with such an electrode, the plasma region may be further displaced from the plasma torch to the center of the plasma section of the reactor.
In advantageous embodiments, two plasma torches are arranged in the plasma section, wherein the plasma torches are arranged equidistant from the center of the plasma section. This arrangement is particularly suitable for a scaling of the plasma power, which is advantageous especially for two channel sections with a common axis.
In another advantageous embodiment, three plasma torches are arranged in the plasma section, which are arranged equidistant from the center of the plasma section, the reactor having three channel sections. In addition to advantageous scaling, there are advantages to the efficiency of reactors with Kvaerner plasma torches, since each plasma torch can be operated with one phase of a 3-phase current source, so that no costly voltage conversion or rectification is required and the reactive power can be reduced.
Preferably, the channel sections are at a distance from the center of the plasma section, which is at least 1 m greater than the distance of the last introduction region, in product line sections over. The product line sections serve to facilitate a transfer to further processes, e.g. a Fischer-Tropsch process. In this case, the plurality of product line sections can be merged. Furthermore, it is possible that a deflection and thus an approach to the center of the plasma section takes place, which does not imply a direct and complete return to the plasma section. The transition to product line sections allows for easier routing at lower temperatures without costly cooling of the section.
Furthermore, a corresponding method for the thermal cleavage of hydrocarbons is proposed to achieve the object of the invention, wherein a plurality of inlet openings for hydrocarbons are provided in a reactor of the aforementioned type. According to the invention, at least two inlet openings are operated with variable and divergent pressures and / or mass flows of the introduced hydrocarbons.
This allows centering of the plasma region in the plasma section of the reactor, so that the hottest region is arranged as equal as possible to all walls of the reactor in order to minimize the thermal load on the reactor walls. Furthermore, a rectangular deflection of the thermally split hydrocarbons in preferably two channel sections can also be done centrally in the channel sections, which minimizes wall effects and provides a good starting situation for subsequent process steps.
Preferably, a detection of the position of a plasma region in the plasma section and a regulation of pressures and / or mass flows of hydrocarbons to at least two inlet openings are made such that the plasma region is displaced into the center of the plasma section.
The detection of the position of the plasma region can be effected, for example, optically by means of a camera, which is arranged in a channel section. The data captured by the camera are electronically evaluated in advantageous embodiments and fed into a control loop. The control circuit controls the introduction of at least, preferably more or all inlet ports for hydrocarbons, by adjusting the pressure and / or mass flow. Accordingly, the plasma region shifts due to the changed flow conditions, which is detected according to the method and serves to further adapt the pressures and / or mass flows. In this way, the hot plasma area can be positioned as centrally as possible with even spacing to all walls. This can be carried out advantageously in particular with an annular arrangement of inlet openings in the plasma section.
