Description
The invention relates to a method for operating an internal combustion engine, in particular an internal combustion engine having a turbocharger. The invention further relates to an apparatus for operating an internal combustion engine, which is designed to carry out the method.
Internal combustion engines with an internal combustion engine may be equipped with a turbocharger or a plurality of turbochargers, in particular with an exhaust gas turbocharger. An associated operating mode is the so-called scavenging. In this case, intake valve and exhaust valve of a cylinder of the internal combustion engine are controlled so that the opening times overlap partially. As a result, a part of the sucked fresh gas flushes through the cylinder in the exhaust line. This fresh gas in the exhaust line increases the mass flow for operating the turbocharger.

It is desirable to provide a method of operating an internal combustion engine that enables reliable operation even in scavenging mode. It is also desirable to provide a device that is configured to perform the method.
The invention is characterized by a method for operating an internal combustion engine and by a device which is designed to carry out the method.
According to embodiments of the invention, the internal combustion engine comprises an internal combustion engine, a turbocharger with a compressor and a turbine, wherein the turbine comprises a bypass valve, a fresh gas line for supplying fresh gas to a cylinder and an exhaust line for the removal of exhaust gas from the cylinder. A target charge pressure for the fresh gas train is specified while a scavenging operation is active. An actual boost pressure in the fresh gas train is determined during the scavenging operation. The actual boost pressure is compared with the target boost pressure. If the actual boost pressure is less than the target boost pressure, the Überspülmenge of fresh gas is increased in the exhaust system to increase the boost pressure. In particular, the purge amount is increased if, in addition, a bypass valve (see below) is closed and / or vanes are in a position for maximum power. If the actual boost pressure is greater than the target boost pressure or if the actual boost pressure is equal to the target boost pressure, the Überspülmenge is reduced to fresh gas in the exhaust system to reduce the boost pressure.
By comparing the actual boost pressure with the target boost pressure in the fresh gas train, it is possible to regulate the real overspray rate during the scavenging operation so that the required mass flow in the exhaust gas line is set for the desired power on a turbine of the turbocharger. In contrast to a pure pilot control, the efficiency of the internal combustion engine is increased. The individual components of the internal combustion engine, for example components of the camshaft and / or components of the turbocharger, are in the Series production subject to manufacturing tolerances. Thus, the real Überspülmengen scatter in scavenging operation. Based on a pilot control thus results in a too high or too low for the operating point overspray. By comparing the desired charge pressure for the operating point with the actual boost pressure in the fresh gas, it is possible to compensate for this scattering. Too low or too high Überspülmenge, for example due to manufacturing tolerances, can thus be avoided.
The internal combustion engine has an actuator for influencing the power output at the turbine of the turbocharger. These are, for example, a vane adjustment or a bypass valve, also called wastegate. The procedure will be explained below as an example for operation with a bypass valve. An opening condition of the bypass valve during the scavenging operation is detected. The bypass valve has at least two opening conditions: a closed and an open opening condition. Also intermediate positions between the two opening states are possible. If the open state has been determined to be closed and the actual boost pressure is less than the desired boost pressure, the Überspülmenge of fresh gas is increased in the exhaust system to increase the boost pressure.
If the open state is determined to be open or closed and the actual boost pressure is greater than or equal to the target boost pressure, the purge rate of purge gas is reduced to reduce boost pressure and to further close the bypass valve. If it is determined that the bypass valve is not completely closed during scavenging operation and the charge pressure regulator also has to be adjusted in the direction of opening the bypass valve, the overspray volume and thus the flow rate in the exhaust gas line are reduced. In particular, the Überspülmenge is reduced until the bypass valve is just not open or just closed.
If the setpoint boost pressure is not reached when the bypass valve is closed, the overspray volume is increased until the actual boost pressure equals the setpoint boost pressure. The non-achievement of the desired boost pressure is determined, for example, based on the difference between the target and actual boost pressure and / or the determination of the trim of the boost pressure regulator. According to embodiments in this case the adaptation of the boost pressure regulator is taken into account.
According to embodiments, the internal combustion engine has a boost pressure sensor. The boost pressure sensor is set up to detect a pressure. The actual boost pressure is determined as a function of a signal of the boost pressure sensor. By means of the boost pressure sensor, it is easily and efficiently possible to determine the actual boost pressure in the fresh gas train.
According to embodiments, a so-called boost pressure regulator is provided. The boost pressure regulator is, for example, a programmed in the engine control unit software functionality, the actual boost pressure, which is measured in particular with the boost pressure sensor by suitable intervention on actuators of the turbocharger, usually on the turbine (for example, wastegate, vane adjustment or other), to the functionalities in Engine control unit specified adjusts the value of the boost pressure setpoint. For example, a trim of the boost pressure regulator is determined. By means of the boost pressure regulator, it is possible to indirectly measure the Überspülmenge. By means of the boost pressure regulator, it is possible simply and efficiently to regulate the actual boost pressure in the fresh gas train.
According to embodiments, an inlet valve per cylinder is arranged in the fresh gas train for controlling the supply of the fresh gas. It can also be arranged several intake valves per cylinder. In the exhaust line, an exhaust valve per cylinder for controlling the discharge of the exhaust gas is arranged. It can also be arranged more exhaust valves per cylinder.
An opening period for the intake valve is determined. An opening period for the exhaust valve is determined. An overlap period is determined in which the two opening periods at least partially overlap. While the two opening periods overlap, fresh gas is flushed through the cylinder in the exhaust line, if there is a positive purging gradient, that is, the pressure in the fresh gas line is higher than in the exhaust system. The amount of overspray depends, among other things, on the length of the overlap period. If the actual boost pressure is less than the target boost pressure, the overlap period is increased to increase the overspray amount. If the actual boost pressure is greater than the target boost pressure, the overlap period is shortened to reduce the overspray amount.
According to embodiments, the opening period for the intake valve and the opening period for the exhaust valve is dependent on a camshaft phase of a camshaft of the internal combustion engine. The camshaft phase of the intake and / or the exhaust camshaft is changed to lengthen or shorten the overlap period. To extend the overlap period, the position of the intake and / or exhaust camshafts is moved so far toward the longer overlap period until the desired boost pressure is reached. In particular, a suitable controller algorithm is used for this purpose. To the To shorten the overlap period, the position of the intake and / or the exhaust camshaft is corrected by means of a suitable function in the direction of less valve overlap, in particular until the bypass valve just does not open.
According to embodiments, a maximum value for the Überspülmenge is specified. The Überspülmenge is increased only until the predetermined maximum value is reached. In particular, the maximum value depends on the respective engine operating point.
According to further embodiments, a minimum value for the Überspülmenge is specified. The Überspülmenge is reduced only so far until the minimum value is reached. In particular, the minimum value is predetermined as a function of the respective engine operating point.
According to embodiments, a correction value for the boost pressure in dependence on the increase of the Überspülmenge and / or reducing the Überspülmenge is determined. The correction value is stored in a control device of the internal combustion engine. In particular, a stored in a map Überspülmenge is corrected, which is assigned to the target boost pressure. The correction takes place as a function of the determined correction value. Thus, it is possible to perform an adaptation, for example, in the engine control. The determined correction values are stored dependent on operating point. When starting the corresponding camshaft position during the scavenging operation, the correction value is taken into account in addition to the stored pre-control value. For example, the correction value is added or multiplied to the pilot value.
By means of the method it is possible to optimize the engine control strategy during the scavenging operation such that the real overspray amount is adjusted by adjusting the camshaft phase so that the required exhaust gas mass flow is established for the desired power at the turbine of the turbocharger, in particular when the bypass valve is closed ,
